The threat is simply because the Fed doesn't want to increase the cost of credit (interest rate) in order to keep consumption up because household consumption is over 70% of GDP. However, because so many people have lost their jobs (Over two million and counting) more mortgage defaults/credit card defaults/all loan defaults will undoubtedly rise this is year by a whole bunch. Since very few understand this problem, the US is in a particularly dangerous credit crisis which WILL affect everyone.
