I just read a bunch of sexist comments... so I'd just like to say that, as a female, all I've ever wanted is to be treated as an equal person. I know that I am one, but it seems that there are many who don't.
Good God! Why can't all you sexist bastards accept the fact that women CAN serve the same roles as men in the military. In fact FET's are able to go places men can't. It is true that sometimes women don't have as much physical strength as men, but that is NOT to say that women don't have any. You can't win a war with just physical force. It is inspiring to see these brave women out there. I thank ALL women and men who serve.

@USAFhelo11 Some of us have to run obstacle courses, combat courses and qualify with our weapon on a regular basis. Not just in basic training. Some of us actually do it well our entire enlistment.

I was a female Marine. I did time in Iraq and even got a combat action ribbon to much amazement from some grunts on base. We do not all sit in a AC tent. Some of us are truly put in a position of a true Marine. I did what I was suppose to and did it well but what bothers me as that so many male Marines associate me within the same class of slut Pogs. But I know I watched my buddies back and I got out of their alive so you can kiss my a**

@travislaustin It really isn't easy joining a "boys club" many females join the Marines and pretty much end up with something different than expected. You gotta be stronger. You have to do better but not so much better that some of the boys get offended. And if one or a few girls are sluts than all of you are sluts. If you plan to join the Marine Corps and are female you have to be stronger than the majority of females. Some do end up sluts, those are the ones I would call weak.

The few always spoil the bunch as they say. I also did a better job than most of the Marines in my unit, male and female because I wasn't a lazy bum. I took everything seriously. I was put on guard duty, males always talked BS until they learned I could handle it very well and even better than some of the males.

@farhan007 Honestly some grunts have an ignorant mentality towards so called Pogs. I spent time away from all the major base camps as a so called pog and spent most of my time on guard duty. Spent most of my time dirty in Iraq. Shoot even some Recon guys said they felt sorry for our unit. Not all "pogs" spend time in an AC tent with food and water available at all times and yes I thought for sure I was going to die with Rpg's and artillery flying by.
@twisted667 lol "gaurd duty". Please grunts know that pogs leave the wire ... they may even see contact in a convoy here and there... Here is the difference. Grunts are specifically put in the most dangerous spots in Afghanistan. ex: Marjah. They are not put on "gaurd duty"(some lucky ones are). They go on ambush patrols... movement to contact, raids etc.They walk around in the shittiest terrain with full gear and the hottest weather for miles... Grunts actively seek out contact.

There is much more to being a grunt than receiving pop shots. It includes the 7 months of not being in a major base and being embedded in a village. You know how many weeks we stayed in dywer and leatherneck out of our 7 months? 3 weeks. 2 weeks before and 1 week after leaving Marjah.
@farhan007 I also didn't stay at the major bases most of the time. In fact when we got back to Kuwait most of the supply units didn't want us there using up their resources, showers and such. Even though we had been without showers for weeks and had been sleeping outside with spiders and scorpions. Not too bad but it is pretty pathetic that they didn't want to be bothered to help other Marines out with a simple shower and sharing the tent for 2 weeks that we were there.
@twisted667 The rest of the time was living in small fobs with no mwr(we know you pogs love those mwr's) or any other amenities and broken down compounds. Its about the one year work up of having a field op every other week. Its absolute pure misery.
@farhan007 Dude, obviously I was not a grunt. A non-grunt doesn't do all that the real grunts do, you know that and i know that. Point was that most people seem to believe we sit in an AC tent with showers, food, water and all available when in my case that didn't happen. They even told us we didn't deserve food at times because we weren't grunts. Obviously the grunts should get the food first if were not doing all the hardcore work but I think you get what I mean.

Actually one night, the girl next to me sleeping turned over and smacked me by accident and was still asleep so I smacked her back but she didn't even wake up after that so I shrugged it off and tried to sleep. Pretty easy night though. Some nights I would watch grunts and arty in fallujah since we had to have the ammo ready.

Though I love my mom it's the worse decision I ever made. I live with lots of regret. My mom died shortly after so I joinded the NYPD. It's the best experience of my life but it wasn't the Core . I was blessed though, I was the only women assigned to a unit with 19 jarheads! They made me an honorary Marine. Semper fi!

Hacking it has nothing to do with anything. I accomplished whatever I was ordered to do. Had record time on the O-course, shot expert with my rifle, etc. But I'm not going to break my arm patting myself on the back.

@USAFhelo11 As I've said before, some of did require constant physical training and tests during our enlistment to keep our skills sharp. Some of us were held to high standards of physical fitness, NBC training and weapons proficiency the entire time. Not just in boot camp.

@travislaustin It really isn't easy joining a "boys club" many females join the Marines and pretty much end up with something different than expected. You gotta be stronger. You have to do better but not so much better that some of the boys get offended. And if one or a few girls are sluts than all of you are sluts. If you plan to join the Marine Corps and are female you have to be stronger than the majority of females. Some do end up sluts, those are the ones I would call weak.

The few always spoil the bunch as they say. I also did a better job than most of the Marines in my unit, male and female because I wasn't a lazy bum. I took everything seriously. I was put on guard duty, males always talked BS until they learned I could handle it very well and even better than some of the males.

trust me.. if you are ever successful at becoming a grunt you will not have the same mentality. Spent most of my time dirty in Iraq. Shoot even some Recon guys said they felt sorry for our unit. Not all "pogs" spend time in an AC tent with food and water available at all times and yes I thought for sure I was going to die with Rpg's and artillery flying by.

@twisted667 lol "gaurd duty". Please grunts know that pogs leave the wire ... they may even see contact in a convoy here and there... Here is the difference. Grunts are specifically put in the most dangerous spots in Afghanistan. ex: Marjah. They are not put on "gaurd duty"(some lucky ones are). They go on ambush patrols... movement to contact, raids etc.They walk around in the shittiest terrain with full gear and the hottest weather for miles... Grunts actively seek out contact.

There is much more to being a grunt than receiving pop shots. It includes the 7 months of not being in a major base and being embedded in a village. You know how many weeks we stayed in dywer and leatherneck out of our 7 months? 3 weeks. 2 weeks before and 1 week after leaving Marjah.

@farhan007 I also didn't stay at the major bases most of the time. In fact when we got back to Kuwait most of the supply units didn't want us there using up their resources, showers and such. Even though we had been without showers for weeks and had been sleeping outside with spiders and scorpions. Not too bad but it is pretty pathetic that they didn't want to be bothered to help other Marines out with a simple shower and sharing the tent for 2 weeks that we were there.

Point was that most people seem to believe we sit in an AC tent with showers, food, water and all available when in my case that didn't happen. They even told us we didn't deserve food at times because we weren't grunts. Obviously the grunts should get the food first if were not doing all the hardcore work but I think you get what I mean.

@twisted667 While in Iraq we either slept outside or in a "2 person tent" you know the kind where if you turn around you smack the person that is sleeping next to you. Actually one night, the girl next to me sleeping turned over and smacked me by accident and was still asleep so I smacked her back but she didn't even wake up after that so I shrugged it off and tried to sleep. Pretty easy night though. Some nights I would watch grunts and arty in fallujah since we had to have the ammo ready.

I remember standing up on OP22 and seeing this chick marine cat calling these Iraqi's in a truck as the passed by . I am 1 test away from my GED. Which is the math official test. My college classes start the 20th, by August I'll have about 20 credits.

Don't ever let anyone tell you not to pursue your dreams! I wanted to be a Marine in1981. I come from a old fashion Hispanic family My mom said if I joined she would disown me. Though I love my mom it's the worse decision I ever made. I live with lots of regret. My mom died shortly after so I joinded the NYPD. It's the best experience of my life but it wasn't the Core . I was blessed though, I was the only women assigned to a unit with 19 jarheads! They made me an honorary Marine. Semper fi!

I want my family to support me but i dont know how to do that, i know im only 13 but i just cant wait to turn 18 and join the the marines. my family says that why would you want to join the marines all your going to do is go out and kill your self but i dont really care i want to join because i want to make a difference i know it will be a small difference. i have researched several things about a female marine and it makes me want to join even more

People said I was to pretty and i need to get myself a husband keep my self where I belong. I didnt listen to them and neither should you. Fallow your heart. and when your recruiter says welcome to the us marine core you will know you made the right choice.
