@sk8king07 Actually, 1982 T/As had only the 145hp version (carburetor), and the 165hp version (cross-fire) of the 305 engine. The HO 305 came later, and had overheating problems. And, you're right on both counts, all T/As are V8s, and 1982 Corvettes had a 350 engine, not a 305.
great car man. and yeah regardless of the mileage/care it recieved that dash is gonna crack on the earlier thirdgens lol. My friend's dad has a mint '82 firebird with 30k miles and his dash is cracked to hell as well. At least they're cheap to replace! :)
it just cross fire injection isnt the most reliable motor because GM only had it in cars for 2years and where developing the TPI setup so they didt put much effort into the cross fire motors
The rims you have are rpo N89 turbo fins. The engine is LU5 CFI. They made 13,037 firebirds with that engine in 1982. Dash cracking is typical-only a replacement from 82-84 firebird will fit correctly. I have 2 low mileage orig 1982 birds. Good luck!

@ccrraaazzy ive got the same car man. and you are right about the engine kinda. not a vette engine but was considered a small vette engine by most. also theres 2000 of them out there. maybe only 200 running but they made closer to 2000. nice car btw. im taking out the 305 in mine and dropping a 383 in it. power rated at 550hp with 540tq!!! way more than i need lol.
@ccrraaazzy yes but for it to be a rean ta it has to have ta stock parts , mine has the door things that say ta and the vin shows up ta but cause the engine was changed its not and we had to get a new ownership , yours came stock like that so the factory made your ownership say ta but your vin numbers wont agree with the data bass if you look them up individualy
i have a ta / fb too and i love it just like you yours and no i wasant dissing you or the car , btw mine runs on lpg (propane) and i think thats even better (than stock , not yours), it me and it against the world. mine came in terible condition , it was stuck in a dich and all the plastics where screwed it pulled out car in but we got that back out , the it pulled the flat bed tow truck half in , it was really stuck
@ccrraaazzy Recaro T/A only had LG4 (Carbureted) or LU5 (Cross-Fire injection) engines. Both are 305s. Corvettes had 350s. Recaro T/As cost almost $3K more than regular T/As, but the option didn't include a Corvette engine. GM had an internal clause during those years that stated that no car could have the same or more horsepower as the Corvette. That's one of the reasons Pontiac killed its Turbo 301 and started using Chevrolet 305s.

Though its factory performance numbers left a lot to be desired (as in almost every car during that era), it is still a fairly rare car. I had 2 1982s, and I still regret selling the last one I had.
@ccrraaazzy It does not have a corvette engine...just because it is a 350 chevy small does not mean it is a corvette engine...the corvette and trans am are two different cars and had different engine codes...kinda like my prelude...b21a1 was strictly the prelude...not the civic...I could go around saying that my 82 scottsdale had a corvette engine becuase it is a 350. and...sorry kid there is no muscle car class...sure you can take automotive classes...

You're lucky to have a nice looking '82 with very low mileage! I use to have an '82 Firebird SE, but it I turned it into a Knight Rider replica and replaced everything. See my videos. The dash cracks are very usual. I think you'll have no problem getting a new one. Take good care of it!
