Real time search and mobile search will become critical skills for Internet Marketing. Traditional news sources (broadcast, print) need to evolve to catch up with the way info is being shared...Also, security for info in the cloud will gain importance - as more people trust it, more attention will be given to mining info by the bad guys.
Thanks for the insights. We are living through an exciting evolution.
I think we always appreciate the updates on where things are going with Google. I also appreciate you pointing out Mobile Searching, there are so many companies that are either afraid of it or just don't know how to make their sites more mobile friendly. Hopefully, phone manufacturers will also work harder on making their browsers a little better so small businesses will have an easier time being viewed on a mobile phone.
You just know the end result of all this, whether it is an intended goal or not, is going to be an omniscient AI. It's actually a very natural evolution of a simple search engine, and I wonder how far Google has got in implementing the AI layer (ie. the part that understands what you are asking it for, and understands what the data it is searching actually means, resulting in far better search results and no more guessing at keywords).
An AI takes more than the imitation of AI. As long as the algorithms don't generate new completely different algorithms, it doesn't matter how complex and "smart" they seem. Everything you see happening in the evolution of search engines and web is human centered, derived from our needs and our egos, relying on our brains. IMO we are still pretty far from creating the self-evolving algorithms that can break out of the function they were created for.
Sounds like we are getting pretty deep into "how do you define AI" territory here. I would argue that since the data that gives the intelligence its content is always changing, then it IS effectively generating new algorithms. Besides which, I would argue your description of what it takes to be Intelligent would suggest much of the human race is not intelligent. Or perhaps my vision of the end result IS AI as you describe it (I just didn't explain it in enough detail).
I agree it is the matter of definition and the line between different AI definitions is very thin. So as long as we talk about search engine making smart decisions we can surely say Google search engine is already intelligent to some extent, but for me the most important aspect in the definition of "true" AI would be the ability to learn, change and derive new conclusions based on the analysis of the gathered data.
