@taterheadman Yeah, I know, all in good fun. I always carry several cheap plastic lighters. Very reliable, redundant, and if one gets wet it dries out, plus good for more fire than I'll ever need. Next time I'll take a plain steel knife for the magnesium/flint block. The problem is a stainless steel knife (Swiss Army type) won't throw a spark off the flint.
use one myself for fishing in the uk,,,, great bit of kit,,, no messing around with small gas canisters,, also got the attachment for the neck so you can support a pan on the top
I have an eydon popular, which has served me very well. I dont think I have ever seen an american made version. Eydon are UK made and I think the other makes Ghillie and Kelly are UK & Ireland too. Perhaps as their popularity increases in the US, a American manufacter will start producing them.
I ve seen little add on cooking kits for these; little sauce pan etc.
@solufane Yes, I ordered this from the UK at "great" expense (the US dollar is in the toilet as usual) but it is worth every penny. I especially liked the fact that it was packed in those nudie newspapers, "page 3" or whatever. LOL! For the US version I can think of one tiny improvement ...
@matt4270 ... and unlike the wheel, you can use it in a US designated Wilderness Area. My friend, who is the local head Forest Service ranger, says that it is classified as a solid fuel stove, but when you travel high up to where campfires are prohibited, you must carry your own fuel supply. He also said you cannot use it if there is an extreme fire danger (campfires prohibited everywhere), which is the only drawback, but that doesn't happen often.
Cheater !!! you used a lightrer !!!
