  • What star am i supposed to click? =P

  • I never use the emergency brake in my car on a hill... instead I keep my foot on the brake and let the clutch out just until I feel it start to engage, then I give it more gas than usual. The only time I use the hand brake in my car is when I'm parking it.

  • Does'ent really matter that most of the weight is in the back

  • I drive only Manual cars and I don't use the hand break [if that's what you meant by "Emergency Break" in 2:17] when I'm stopping on a steep hill. Just need to step more on the acceleration before starting to release the clutch as you said..

  • Incorrect, never start without a burnout.

  • I'd like to have seen how much further that road went.

  • I love youtube HD :)

  • 12 hours ago i was trying to go up hill on a mini bridge or somethings like that and once i front break my bike me and my passenger just started sliding in slow motion back again from where we started! I didnt even think of the rear break! Awesome video!

  • i thought you use your front break on hills, because if you use your rear the front will lift up and topple over ? if you are sliding down the hill , using the rear will make it flip , using the front will keep it down

  • Do you think a 30, 50cc scooter could get up at that hill?

  • @srednaz99 ya for sure!

  • hi i don't believe in speed limits pity you cant show how to bring a street bike down out of a mono you need too use the rear brakes to torque out the motor same way except its reversed .of course if they hit the ground hard and fast you can brake the steering yoke .good job so far thou in my book if you lay there and don't move your legs that an para if you lay there don't move your full body the neck down that a an quadriplegic n v u triper

  • He used to be indecisive.... but now he's not so sure. What a wanker

  • Taiwan smart-ass. Look at the other videos he's made.

  • Thanx man. I'm a newbie and I have had trouble doing incline starts.

  • Thanks for this video man

  • aw was definitely hoping you would have mentioned that downhill you stopped on at the end! Is it the same for uphill (use rearbreak?) or would you use both if you're stopping on a downhill slope (steep)? and to start would you just hold the clutch in and let it roll down? thanks

  • nice gps... what brand?

  • ah crap u dont have to get a moto license to drive in taiwan right? i only have license for 50cc... wonder if 50ccs are allowed to go 100kmh there

  • in NZ 50cc are limited to 50-60km =[

  • @BSKpride 45km/h in Finland, fuck yeah.

  • yo! are u in taiwan??? looks like it. pretty sweet vid man.

  • what type off bike do u have

  • that bike sounds so sexy

  • Can you do one of going down hill slowly? I'd imagine it wouldn't be easy to stay balanced.

  • just keep one foot down of close to the ground. :D

  • y did u move there man

  • where the hell is this man???

  • No idea. Some small town near Taichung. Far from my home.

  • Would i be correct guessing that it's an Asian country...?

  • Learn Geography

  • no one asked you.

  • Its in North Taiwan.

  • @13mordeth that road Does looks dangerous,,do they not believe in barriers there.

  • Great vid!

Ive always wanted to learn hill starts on a roadbike, ur vid is really helpful =]

  • I have trouble with hill starts. Sometimes my clutch slips and sometimes it doesnt. Maybe its because when I rev it high I let off the clutch too slowly. ???

  • Brilliant, hill starts are the only thing i haven't managed to try yet, definitly something i need to be able to do. (That road looks terrifying...)

  • Blimey, How thick are your roads? and how do they lay "tacmac" with no edge on the side, it looks like a floating road, very dangerous at night I would imagine with poor headlights!!!

  • man thats one weird road, u see how narrow it was and it was like a hill of its own

  • Im sooo smart, I got your math question!!!

  • awesome vids dude

  • my hat off to you man id be scared to go on that road. id still do it but id be little nervous

  • Nice vid i love the road haha looks like a nice challenge :)

  • wats with the road there it just like drops your fucked if u fall in there with a bike

  • So to summarize... when you hit the friction zone, let off the brake and accelerate as usual.

Also... using the rear brake on a hill requires less hand coordination.

  • Related Videos: "Sexy women's Clubwear"...lol...great vid M

  • Hey mordeth, where did you get your handle bars? I also have am 08 ninja 650 and I hate the stock bars. I'm looking for something that is straighter than what I have now.

  • When I feel the back of the bike lowers, then you let the clutch out but slowly

  • i feel pain for the clutch on ur bike after that hillstart in the middle.

  • good viiid~ nice advice!

  • ha i found the 5th star im soo smart lol

  • Im sur its less than a 600 because he talks about how was riding a 600 and it was alot more powerful

  • And what about if you are on a step hill, and you are in neutral? Also your right food is on the rear break? How do you shift in 1st and pull off ?

  • Comment removed

  • Then u put the front brake on, change gear, rear brake on, and off u go!

The front wheel doesnt slide THAT easy...

  • Don't stop in neutral on a hill. How'd you get on the hill if you're in neutral? Makes no sense... If you're allready stopped, just hold the front brake and kick into first.

  • heh, I did a tutorial on how to do this too but mine sucks so I'm not going to post it as a vid response :p

  • what bike do you have :) lol

  • kawasaki ninja not sure if its a 600 or 1200 but i think its a ninja

  • It's a 750 Ninja.

  • goodjob, very informative becuase in my early 20's i plan on purchasing a bike

  • 650. :P

  • Damn... yeah ;)

  • Very good advice about what brake to use. I haven't been on really steep hills yet, but it's good to know. Porbably another good reason to stop with both brakes each time.

  • doesnt seem like a very gud road to pas on the outside

  • i haz yet 2 see ur face *broken wrist sorrry*

  • good advice! mordeth king of bike vloggers!

  • Watching your videos is awesome. Although I never found my courage on a motorcycle XD. Even in Canada.

I just have my dad take me places on his scooter in Taiwan usually. Should take up riding one sometime.

  • time for a baby update

  • I just stop applying the front brake and ride off, so easy. The bike won't roll backwards if you do it quickly. Just like with a car, you don't have to use the handbrake if you can do it quickly..

  • thank you for that video.

  • lol after riding a bike for a week or so first time ever, I had to go under some train tracks. There is a redlight at the top of the small hill. I stalled it like 3 times before I ever got going.

watched all of your how to's lol had to learn this one the hard way :)

  • ha I almost ate sh*t last week stopping ith my front brakes on a steep hill. You posted too late.

  • beautiful place =)

  • true about the manual car thing.....only if the car is front wheel drive

  • the bike is rear wheel drive...I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter what drive the car is

  • yea but the difference between a bike and a car is that cars have the ability to drive with your front wheels or back wheels so there it kinda does matter......with bikes....no matter what...they are rear wheel drive.....unless u find a front one then that'll be funny lol

  • yea ex that comment......i forgot that brakes no matter what are in the front lol....e-brakes are in the back lol

  • brakes are in the front and the rear, it's just regular brakes are biased towards the front wheels and as your said...the E-Brake only grabs the rear. One more thing to mention, in US-spec cars has weaker e-brakes than from other countries...so you can easily drive with the E-Brake engaged.

  • Some US cars have weak parking brakes. Most vehicles I've owned or friends have owned, we've adjusted the parking brake ourselves. I say most because all the other ones allready had strong parking brakes. Parking brake = correct vernacular.

  • wew

  • Good vid.

I keep thinking you are going to fall off the edge.. :s

  • Hey M13!

I liked so much the "How to" series...so I was pleased to see again a vid like those!

At the end I saw some kind of drink on your bike...hope it wasn't alcohol :)))

    Keep on!

    ;)

  • There was one guy in the group that day.....and every time we stopped he'd buy a bear. My drink was an energy drink.

  • @13mordeth He'd buy a bear!!?!!!!!omg!! :P :P :P

  • @13mordeth He must have had a lot of bears then, shame we can't buy them here in the UK.

  • @13mordeth he bought a bear?!

  • @13mordeth he must've had quite a colony of bears by the time your ride was over :O.

  • 13mordeth thank you so much for all of your help...

i actually got stuck and i did not know what to do on a huge hill....

i blocked up the all the traffic :/

  • You can let out the clutch until the bike has just enough power to hold itself without any throttle or brake and go from there. No need to keep the brake down as you are accelerating.

  • That wears out the clutch a lot.

  • I don't mean sit there on the hill with no brakes. I mean when you start to take off there is no need to touch the brakes after you let the clutch engage.

  • If you are skilled enough sure....but chances are if you are skilled enough you wouldn't need to watch a "how to" video on this topic.

  • Oh, yes I agree. My mistake.

  • Nice bike. what is that?

  • its called a motorcycle....basically its a bike with a motor in it.

  • Well usually when u say 'bike' pointing at motorcycle you mean motorcycle...

  • comment

  • hei thats what i do when im in a steep hill, i put the foot break then acelerate and slowly leave the clutch when i feel it pulling i release the foot break, one advice, is better to give a little more trottle than less cause you can stall it, if its is too much dont release the clutch fast.

  • havent commented in awhile but thanks needed this

  • e-brake in a manual car? i think not. if your just learning yea its a good trick but defiantly not needed i just give it some more gas and release the clutch quicker.

  • To think I discovered Mordeth with simple "How to" videos and i've discovered the legend.

  • me too! Never thought i'd find a youtube "thing" so interesting. :-D

  • me to lol

  • Going up a steep hill as a passenger is traumatizing. Gotta lean forward as much as possible to avoid falling off.

  • I love you Mordeth!

What do you do if you are facing down hill?

  • thats what she said

  • Front brake and you would just roll away, less throttle.

  • Now, i dont ride motorcycles. I just ride mopeds and scooters for now (with both brakes on the handlebars).

I dont know if its just me or what, but when im come to a stop i tend to put both feet down. Im sure if i get a get a motorcycle ill get use to just putting my left foot down. My question is...

What if you are sitting/stopping on a hill and you need to put your right foot down ???

Do you just use the front brake and pray for the best?

  • hay mate i found that you can use the front brake. but if you can use the back

  • Yeah, you can still use the front break, but its just not as stable.. You'll find once your riding a bike for a while and break correctly you won't even put your right foot down. I did it heaps when first learning. I haven't put my right foot down in many months now.. Always use my rear break whenever stopped, and always leave it in gear, I'm worried some fool is gonna run into me so always in a position to go. :P

  • not sure if i would continue listening to your "how to" that begins with you saying, "let me stop here, oooh fuck this is a little dangerous..."

Just messin' with ya keep up the good work mordeth

  • Did you ever find that landmark you were looking for?

  • 1:38 m13 pov for sex.

  • HAHAHA :D

  • Good stuff man. Looks like interesting side roads in that area.

  • I've gone up a drive way that is pretty steep and stalled on it once. F***ing scary as hell. I am so glad I didn't drop it but it felt nasty. After that I learned what NOT to do and can proudly say I am able to drive up into their driveway a lot easier

  • those are one hell of a roads to drive lol

  • That so called road didn't leave much room for errors! Loved the video! Ride Safe!

  • I like that method better than the other.

  • does ur gps acually show these tiny ass roads? i dont even think u can call it a road lol

  • Great information.

  • So did you find that diner that you looked for or what? I'm betting it wasn't up there in the mountains? =P

  • those are some tight roads

  • nice vids man keep em up ..watchedem all

  • it looks like you are driving in the "crysis" world

  • lol, that's true

  • yeah, next thing he's gonna start shooting from the back of a jeep.

  • ur nickname is mordeth13 where does the "13" come from?

  • where does the mordeth come from lol

  • i have no idea? im from finland if that could be the reason?

  • nah i was only asking aswell because i dont know what the 13 nor the mordeth stands for

  • I have a FAQ on my website.

  • Canadian boy of Scottish ancestry

  • Canada

  • i kinda meant where his name came from

  • LOL :D so where does he come from ?

  • Those thin roads look like the ones in Puerto Rico!!! The mountain roads are just like that!

  • ehh, im just waiting for freddy kruger to pop out of the woods and cut your head off..

  • thx mordeth very helpfull info i am trying to get into riding myself but its so hard to find the money to buy a bike no a days.

  • did you see that guy parked on the wrong side of the street on the corner? CRAZY!!

  • Since when does a motorcycle have "speed-pedal"

  • Do you do that brake thing every time? I personally always just got used to timing my RPM/Clutch release quicker. Car or Bike, you can eliminate any roll back without using the brake.

  • actually you dont need the emergency brake with a car, when you use the normal brake you just look for the friction then release the brakes and give gas

  • It would be kinda tricky to press the brake and the speed-pedal at the same time?

  • Bram,

If you used the normal break you would not be able to control the clutch and the gas at the same time ( 3 foot pedals on a standard trans. car). You may be confused with automatic.

If you are quick enough, there is no braking needed with either a car or bike.

  • what i ment with the friction zone was the zone in which the car starts to roll a bit normally

ofc it wouldnt do that on a hill i guess so you have to press the brakes, however when youre in that zone the car would not move back also because its trying to go forward,so if you give it a little gas you would be on your way,i hope!

atleast thats what i had to do in my driving lessons :),with a manual ofcourse.

im not trying to be smart here cuz i failed my practical exam yesterday lol

  • I'm with you on that one.

i have a license for 6 years now, and all of the cars i had so far (4 total) were manual. and i never use the handbrake. you just have to be quick if your car is lacking torque. but on a bike u kinda have to use the rear brake, its kinda awkward using the front brake and the gas at the same time.

  • It's easier to do it using the handbreak, it's meant as an advice for unskilled drivers.

('You just have to be quick' will end up as rolling back for most beginners ...in the worst case hitting the vehicle behind them)

  • hmm ive actually never done it with the handbrake, kinda thought that was even harder lol

  • That road looks like it would be great fun, never seen anything like it in aus

  • Nice vid :)

  • Good viddie M, those 'trails' look a bit tricky to navigate, how do you find those roadways?!

  • I've never been to that town before. I was just exploring.

  • Should i be so curious? I tried the front brake-uphill thing... Hmmm... Mordeth was right...AGAIN!

  • lol

  • What the f*** is up with those roads? I'd shit myself riding along those...

  • well, thats taiwan for you. lol

  • Very helpful video, after the 1:50 mark lol

  • Hehe, yeah......my brain was a bit slow to start on this one.

  • thnx mordeth!!!

plz upload or make more how to videos for us plz

  • nice how-to vid xD

  • thanks for the tips they rilly help

  • I thought that locking up the front was more safe than the rear remeber.... :D

  • other way round

  • i know this -.- I was refering to one of mordeth's pervious video's in which he talks of how someone or somthing trie to explain to him why its safer to lock up the front; which if you ride, even pedal bike you know to be incorrect

  • he's talking about complete stops on a slope.

  • damn, you really have bored me, dont comment on my comments if you dont know what its about 'sigh'

  • ahaha another how to, i think im going to pass my test with mordeth tips :)
