Steve Jones was truly a great athlete. He averaged a 4:42 one mile pace for 6.2 miles. And normally in a race like that, the white guy doesn't win. Anybody with experience in hard running knows that's insane.

I remember this race and I remember watching Steve Jones set the world record in the London Marathon. The man was phenomenal and seemed to be almost able to switch off pain and go through the barrier to the next level.

Pretty certain this is at the Bislett games in Oslo, mid 80s. Jones was an enigma & amazing long distance runner. Broke the world record for the marathon in his SECOND marathon after failing to finish in his first.

He didn't have a kick to speak of & relied on going hard &fast to blow the competition away.hence why the commentators were predicting he'd be beaten Suffered from some terrible injuries at critical points of his career.

2:07.13 is still a British marathon Record.
