My mother used every trick in the book to ring the changes with her very limited wardrobe, cutting down old clothes, using lots of trimmings and swopping with her friends, since they were all so slim on a wartime ration diet this wasn't difficult. Her major asset was a sewing machine and I used to drop off to sleep with the sound. If you really want a 'one off' wardrobe you could do worse than buy a sewing machine and get started!
