Funny how when listening to these early Purgatory demos we don't hear any trace of the famous galloping riffs that Iced Earth would use extensively in their work over the years.
@BigSCTVfan2 Well, this was before Jon had really developed his fast picking riffs that he is known for nowadays. This was a young band, still trying to find what would make them unique, different than anyone else. It really wasn't until Night of The Stormrider that we began to hear those famous galloping melodies.
@BigSCTVfan2 I'm guessing he lasted as long in the band as he did because during their formative years as Purgatory their songs didn't require highly skilled singing talent, once Iced Earth's musical direction started gaining its signature identity and began requiring more in the vocal department Shaffer ejected him when he refused to take proffesional lessons
This is a great song, I'm glad I can finally hear a taste of what the band sounded like back in the Purgatory days. The funny thing is, this song is only one year older than I am:)
actually the musics pretty good, i like the guitar and bass in the chorus its very catchy, the lyrics are kind of plain and a little psychoy. but its o.k
Hell yes! I've been dying to hear a purgatory track. I've been a fan of Iced Earth for ten years now, ever since I was eleven. It's cool to finally hear what the pre-Iced Earth band sounded like.
This is so influenced by Mercyfull fate

How did Gene Adam last as long in Iced Earth as he did?

THis is such a good song...why the hell did Gene have to fuck it up? He is the worlds worst singer...thank God for Matt Barlow

@PontiacAlfaHSV LOL, Gane is great. He is most original vocalist I ever hear. Songs with him are more interesting.

The song is pretty decent, I think it had the potential to be great!
MasterKrispy01 3 years ago
Why did they rewrite this song with Matt Barlow instead of just re recording this version? It makes no sense. I like this version alot!
mkadragtonslayer 2 years ago
I don't think they rewrote the song, it's just too different. I agree though, I prefer this to the "Horror Show" song of the same name.
MasterKrispy01 2 years ago
Well, the voice quality seems to need work, but I wouldn't mind Barlow singing this version. They lyrics are great. The delivery? Enh, not so much.
LordRevan107 2 years ago
Ya, your right. The voice is pretty crappy, but it IS a demo after all. I've heard MUCH worse demos than this.
MasterKrispy01 2 years ago
Or maybe it's just that Gene was a terrible fucking singer.

Iced Earth should re record these songs with Matt on vocals.
chronicdays 4 years ago 2
Yeah i think so to...
But i think that Gene wrote the lyrics to these the purgatory songs, so i don't know if they can :(
Histenchist 4 years ago
@Histenchist also i reckon gene suits these songs, he sounds great (ina metal way)
YoGurtDale 1 year ago
@Histenchist They can probably get away with it as a psuedo-cover.
meerak915 5 months ago
@Histenchist They could do like they did with Written on The Walls and write new lyrics and rename the songs
