thisis a powerfull song. Its powerfull because its simple in its explanation of complex things. Its clever because it can be interpretated in many ways. This is one of my favorite songs. For me its about being connected to someone but actually not feeling that you are and that there is a void. I think that Tori Amos is so over looked and that is a pity as in my humble opinion she is a genius.
When I was 15 my best friend Jennie sent me a tape with this song on.. We were living in different places then. She had a hard time in life..I always understood her. Miss her so much!
I could listen to this song all day, whether it be live or the studio recording. It's just so mesmarisingly beautiful and lyrically wonderful....this woman is just pure beauty and genious
the first time i heard this song i was in highschool graduating. i thought then and i feel the same way..this is such a beautiful, personal song. one of my all time favorites. i've been a toriphile ever since. love her to the moon and back 1,000 times. hughug.e.
I alwys felt that Tori has a great understanding of the fragility of human relationships, and a rare and beautiful way of expressing that so clealy, Tori, you are a goddess
The Lady is an Artist. She paints with words, she paints with music, she puts her soul on sound.
So many thanks for posting this indescribably beautiful artwork on YouTube. I saw this by chance on PBS and it just changed my life at that point...didn't think I'd see it again.
I once had a girlfriend, she's Chinese. She's a very closed person, very protective to what inside her heart and mind. I don't know, maybe it's because she's Chinese. And this song always reminds me of her.....
You are listening to musical genius, and all you can say is "look at those teeth"?!?! How disrespectful. Tori is beautiful, in every aspect of the word.
when i was sixteen i asked my girlfriend at the time(my first love)to slow dance with me to this song in her living room.there was no one else in the house..just us wrapped around each other.a beautiful moment for me,an maybe her??its eighteen years later now,she is long gone, and i have children now, job, house an all that..but when i hear this song,i long for those six special moments again..
Shows how music can affect the very depth of people's lives. Tori is my all time favorite musician, and her songs have been a part of my life for awhile now. So, I understand what you're saying.
she is beautiful - and the song suited my life for a few months when i thought someone loved me to...i was wrong...and this song helped me to understand where i was at the time...
i'm getting that idea from her book Piece by Piece where she talks about how it takes a month for the Bose to get back to England on a boat.
I can see Tori being sad about not seeing her fave piano for a month and she would kiss the piano goodbye and be attached to it in a way that she would hope the boat ride was safe and people handled her piano well...
This version stripped down and slowed down in tempo is almost what I could imagine the truest form of this song is calling out for. That the musician in me talking. I just love the song as well
Where does the first part of this live come from? I mean, it's different from the CD version.

Absolutely Beautiful art.
The Lady uses her voice, piano and breath to create such an impression.
Tori is a genius and artist.
We are blessed.
Thanks for posting this; the only copy I had was from a bad PBS vhs...but never forgot this concert...or the impression it made.
Best.

How can I? When you build a great wall around you
In your eyes I saw a future together
You just look away in the distance"

Yea, there is something about this specific version... Just pure magic... I too got the sense that she is singing about her piano in the beginning...

I think that she is singing about her Bose...it has to be shipped over the pond and that takes several weeks...she would miss it!!

U think?
It seems about something deeper then that...
I wish i knew!
She doesn't seem "here" all through the song...
I wish i knew who/what she's singing about at this intro...

well it could be whatever you want it to be...but sometimes things aren't so deep...for me I don't know...i think she is singing about her piano!
