  • I think those blades are on backwards.

  • @sneaky0e

Nope they are installed correctly and designed to catch the wind.

  • I don't get it. If you don't hook it up to a power controller, it seems to defeat the purpose of using it as an auxilliary power source.

  • is the electricity you produce stored for later use? that could be sweet!

  • @MIgardener

Yes power is stored in deep cycle batteries.

  • I like your cat

  • Mount it high!

  • Don't know much about wind generators. How does it not wrap the wire around the pole, or twist it inside the pole when it turns around on top the pole.

  • @urbancavedude

Most comercial turbines have a swivel connector to keep wires from winding but the turbine will turn both directions and unwinds itself usually.

  • @urbancavedude You can always put something to stop the unit from going all the way around, and will still be able to go all the way around both ways to the stop.

  • I salvaged the permanent magnet motor off my spare electric lawn mower to perhaps make a wind turbine in the future out of it. I noticed that during experimentation, that directly hooking up the motor to the battery caused the motor to run via the 12v from the battery lol. Well why wouldn't it? I'm wondering why your little motor here does not do that. Built in diode or something? and In my case, Do I need a charge controller to prevent my battery from powering my motor? anything helps. Thanks!

  • That's a great little set up! I want to build a cabin in the pacific NW with both solar and wind power to recharge my batteries for the summer and winter months. If you don't mind me asking, how many batteries do you have in your battery bank?

  • dont forget your diode,

  • IS this a home made setup? The wind mill itself? Also love what you are doing the cabin setup and all.

  • It will take 275 days at full capacity @ .14 cents a kilowatt hour to pay for it self. That's running 24/7, not bad. Sound right? Every 8 hours = 1,000 kw hour.

  • Small wind turbines like this are not used to power a home and are only used as trickle chargers to top up batteries on low sun days. if you have lots of wind go with an air X or Breeze model.

  • I love your outlook on self sustainability... there needs to be a lot more people out there like you. In a consumer society, people like yourself are a dime a dozen. I used to have "big plans" for a big house and a growing bank account but you have been a big influence in changing my thought process of what is really important in life and at the age of 27 I have no debts and i plan to continue the duration of my existence without debt.

By the way, nice scooter...what is it? a rebel 250 or 450?

  • Thanks,

The bike is a Suzuki Marauder and I have a custom '79 Yamaha 650 special

  • from the looks of the parallel twin engine, it looked a lot like a rebel...what CC is the marauder? and i have been looking for an XS650 project bike to hardtail for almost a year now but the increasing popularity has made them very hard to find at a decent price.

Anyhow, i gave ya 5*'s and subscribed and sent a friend request.

I havent had a chance to view all your videos so if you dont have a video on the XS650 why not post one?

    have a good day =)

  • 125W is about 10 amps at 12.6 volts. That's about enough to charge a 50ah battery. The alternator on my 1000cc car produces 80amps at 12.6V.

  • A wind generator produces continual power as long as the turbine is turning and does not require gas to operate.

That iss 10amp hours continuous power.

Car alternators will not work for wind generators.

  • Nice turbine. would you post the company website were we could get one. USA wind generator does not come up. Cant find 125 watt like this on Ebay as well. thanks Keep up the great work.

  • Hey, what kind of a motor you used for this turbine?

Looks simple but good. It does not need to be more then that.

    Good job. I like it.

    Greetings from Belgium

    Erik

  • That is a 125 watt permanent magnet motor available at most RC dealers online.

  • It will be mounted this weekend. It does what I hoped it will do and helps top up my batteries on low sun days.

Use lock tight on the bolts and there is almost no maintenance.

  • Looks cool. Have you mounted it on a pole yet? Do you still like it now that you've had it a litle while. I'd guess you have to take it down and retighted the nuts and bolts every so often. Any other maintenance?
