I am Albanian raised to be an euroean, although I am aware that now Albania and many countries around it do not deserve to be part of Europe Union, I dare to say that maybe one day we might be toghether, not as germans, italians,greeks etc, but as europeans binded together by the three main fundametal principles that define an european and those are:Christendom, Greko-Roman culture and of course being an european. Some day, Europe will be more united than just EU, Africa will be more united than the AU, so will Arabia, etc... Well said. We're past the point where any European country can matter in the world if it acts alone. Even Germany is too small to be an equal to the US or China.
So, we have two options:
Option A: maintain national sovereignty and fade away like the city states of the Ancient Greece;
Option B (the sane option): give up some sovereignty in exchange for greater collective influence, security and prosperity.
This should be a no-brainer, but some people still don't get it.

Today EU is the biggest economic power, despite being smaller than USA.
Let's hope we will somewhere in the future truly united and independent, and not being told what to do by USA and Israel.
I mean no NATO, but an European Army, an European President, European Everything. We have common currency, a Parliament, a Constitution like law and the EU Comisssion who can be thought of as a Government. But we still have a long way to go towards being truly united and free from outside interests.

I love Beethoven's ninth, but the anthem has special orchestration (by Karajan I think). It is taken from the second appearance of the theme, not the first, as you put it and... It's singable for the crowds... :)

The idea of a European Union was founded already in early Greece, but was really set to life by English prime minister Winston Churchill in his Zurich speech in 1946. We are one the same page that fascism still exists. But we can find them in every country of the world. That's not allowed, haven't you read the Lissabon treaty? You're only to start referendums about issues that need to be a European issue of a national issue. So you're allowed to start referendums if it means more EU, referendums about to get away from the EU are not allowed. A rise against the EU is punishable by the death penalty is not allowed to be considered a national issue. The whole EU dictatorship thingy, is all a a bit "Orwellian".
