  • check out our stuff its right up your street

  • love this tune :D

  • but i did "like"

  • ...this is how life is supposed to be.

  • This song brings me too tears. Its soon beautiful

  • Better than the Stones knucklehead! Mick couldn't carry Anton's chamber pot. The Stones were too busy ripping off young, unheard of black-American artists. So what, Anton likes to drink? I'm having one right now. :D

  • brian jones and syd barrett would be so proud!

  • The Brian Jonestown Massacre is one of the best bands I have ever listened to. It's like Syd Barrett and the Rolling Stones came together and smoked a shit load of grass. Anton Newcome is a genius. Way up there with Barrett, Jones and Lennon. In my opinion.

  • @ZeppelinFloydRoses

    Have you seen 'Dig!'?

  • @HyperDamo Of course.

  • @ZeppelinFloydRoses

What about the way they perceive Anton Newcombe in the documentary? Sure he's a great songwriter but his attitude and empathy for other people is just appalling.

Rough quote from the film; "If Anton could clone himself he would and they'd be all in his band"

  • @HyperDamo yeah, i remember that. what is your point? i'm not gonna argue, but whoever said that might be wrong, or just expressing what their own opinion...

  • @ZeppelinFloydRoses

I just think Anton is very self-centered and not fit to be put in comparison with the Rolling Stones. The band could never keep their cool.

  • @HyperDamo Yea to me that documentary only showed their struggle of ups and downs, but that was then.... today Anton and his band are professionals!

  • I fucking love it

  • I don't know if it's the sadness the lyrics emit, or the stunning beauty the sound creates... this song stops me in my tracks every time

  • i met this guy and hes a messed up dude but a real dude

  • Cool video

  • Step away from the computer and get a grip. Though, I understand that getting the last word in at YouTube really IS important. Tool.

  • you both suck

  • eeeeeeaaaa !! escuchen la armonía, escuchen lo que quieren transmitir es hermoso.. gracias tbjm

  • The only real comparison I have is Elliot Smith... this has that same desperate reality to it.

  • The most overrated underrated band in America

  • the start of this song is awesome..

  • I'm in love with the girl in the begining of the video... her eyes wow!

  • in the end there is only one dance you will do alone. Keep safe CMA prayers to you

  • song makes me feel so sad...

  • Looks like Casey A and her lawyers. Good luck C

  • Looks like Casey A and her lawyers. Good luc CMA

  • Genius.

  • Just beautiful man... beautiful!

  • This is one of like 3 videos I constantly have to go back to on Youtube. Best video for a song ever, btw.

  • I'm still going through every bit of content they have after several years, trying to get every line and sound out of every bit. I remember seeing this video, not knowing who they were really, and just being overcome. The entire song sends shivers still.

Today, while listening to And This is Our Music, I tried just listing their best ten epics, and it was still hard. This, Cabin Fever, You Look Great When I'm Fucked Up, Straight Up and Down, Superfucked, Crushed, Super Sonic, it's impossible...

  • This video made by fans? Its really awesome.

  • @funebrito bjm fans make great videos. kind of indicates how good (special) the music is

  • wich movie is it from?

  • @joacocervino The clip is from Godard's "Bande a Part" from 1964.

  • Hang in there - all of us shoulda known better,We were the class they couldn't teach...the music will never lie to us. Thank God we still have that. 100 someodd days...but whose counting?

  • long live Psychedelic

  • Dear Mom, It's okay that you're not here but no one is going to forget you. It's breaks my heart to see Liv so sad but I know, I hope, that she'll feel better soon. She needed you more than me. I'm doing the best I can to be there for her but there's no replacement for you. Dad found a wife. Her name is Joan and they're in love and I'm happy for them. She's a good person with a good heart. I think one day I might even love her..As for me, I still hurt but I'm gonna be okay. I love you.

    -Nat

  • Fuck yea... BJM...They're the shit!

  • average

  • this song encompasses my entire existence.

    life is beautiful.

  • Dear Dad,

I'm not sure if it's the memory of you or the thoughts of what could have been that hurt more. I like to think that you would be proud of me, but I'm not even sure if I'm proud of myself. I wish we could talk, or that you could just hold me and tell me that everything is going to be all right. I miss you, Dad. Rest in peace. Love,

    -Ted

  • @TedAStewart Your comment made me tear up a little, man. RIP to your father.

  • @ZeppelinFloydRoses Thanks man, that means a lot to me, this song always gets me...

  • @TedAStewart .....Your words moved me....which is a definate first for a youtube comment. peace to you.

  • love this we all agree work of genius

  • 3:50 to 4:30.... wow!

  • I don't get it. They write good songs, but all their stuff sounds like home demo recordings. Why does everything sound so shitty? Are they trying to be Lo Fi?

  • @1StarProductions I'm pretty sure this was not recorded digitally. So it's more than likely the fact that they went from a hi-fi recording (analong) to a low fidelity landscape (the digital world) without being digitally enhanched. Not sure if you know this but vinyl and tape are still superior sound quality to even the most modern high-tech digital equipment.

  • @1StarProductions most if not all of their early records ARE home recordings. I think they sound pretty damn good though!

  • @1StarProductions they never got popular so they use home recording shit

  • is there a best of CD or something I can buy to get an overview of this band? -- they seem pretty damned good from what I've heard I have to say!

  • @kosmischesynth You should get methodrone and work your way forward chronologically! Take It From The Man! is another great one from start to finish

  • @kosmischesynth Methodrone is my fave. Tepid Peppermint Wonderland is technically their best of compilation, its where I started.

  • The devil doesn't care about 11 people

  • How have I only just found this band..

  • @jezzacaple - Congratulations! Absolutely genius... Enjoy the hell out of getting to know Anton and the gang!

  • Anton, I'll make you a promise. If you're ever performing in Dallas and decide to play this song, I'll dance this way to it!, and might even be able to convince a couple persons to join in.

  • Wanna hear the devil? Come to my channel and hear the song "Xanax" This song is soooo HOTT

  • Extremely fine sync job. Love it! Makes my heart ache.

  • amazinn

  • just found this band, this is unexplainably amazing. its just so chill

  • @thelostbobby7 Welcome! Listen to "Thank God for Mental Illness", underrated greatness and it really makes you appreciate BJM

  • On a cloud

  • Anton Newcombe is my God.

  • i love they bring back good music in a wa they remind of 60s shit and there bringin it back hope they last forever and like the black keys and shit

  • I'm the 500 hohoho hoooo

  • Dont understand how anyone could actually dislike this song yeah im talking to you 11 people up there its just some of the greatest music to be made & some of the most beautiful an heart felt art through out all music

  • kind of sad that the BJM never got to experience any major success. even though anton probably wouldn't have had it any other way.

  • @IageF Anton would have had to sell his soul, that was never going to happen

  • @withnielandi Nah, he wouldn't have had to sell his soul. Look at all the other experimental bands throughout the 90's with great success. I think anton's problem to commit to a major label was because he was afraid to fail. None of their works at that time were outstanding. They sure had amazing songs, but they never did that one outstanding full length album. In my opinion anyway. He did after all pretty much sabotage every opportunity they got. Still a genius though.

  • @IageF You're kidding right? "None of their works at that time were outstanding...they never did that one outstanding full length album." Um, how about those three albums in 1996 for starters? Critically acclaimed and undeniably fantastic. But yes you're right, he did kind of sabotage every opportunity they got...but it doesn't matter, they've still made unbelievable music that will stand the test of time.

  • @TobyAlreadyHeard I can only speak for myself, but you're actually pointing out exactly what I feel the problem was. Quantity over quality. "Take it from the man" was a really good album, perhaps their best to date, but not outstanding. And I'm even considering myself as a pretty big BJM fan. A great album to me isn't just a set of good/catchy songs though, and I seriously feel like they (or he) never managed to do that.

  • @TobyAlreadyHeard Through interviews I've read it always seemed to me like he put the blame on someone else whenever things wouldn't work out. And to me he seemed really afraid of the responsibility a major label would bring to the table. But make no mistake, I do appreciate a whole lot of the music he's written. And knowing what he's capable of musically, I can't help but feel that he could have done better albums.

  • How haunting and melancholy...

  • When I hear This I wanna drink till I cant feel feelings any more ...

  • The JLG visuals compliment my favorite BJM song very well. Thanks for posting.

  • Life would be better if anton described it

  • Not to judge or anything, but i just discovered this band and it seems like almost every fan needs to follow this "law" that you need to distroy your body and mind with drugs to dig this....kind of makes me sad. I mean, Zappa didn`t do any drugand hes music is even more far out, if you know what i mean (i think you do)...;-)

  • @raylot13

    NO SHIT!

  • Reminds me of Beck - Mellow Gold!

  • My favorite band, hands down.. Seriously, way too amazing. :)

  • You make my life BJM

  • The rivalry between The Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols reminds me of Blur and Oasis. I love them both, just like I love Oasis and Blur. This song is brilliant.

  • The Brian Jonestown massacre will always be better than the dandy warhols

  • @raylot13 always.

  • @raylot13 But you can't really say that, because they are good within their own right.

  • @SebbyHo88

I'm not saying that the Dandys suck, their one of my favorite bands but the Brian Jonestown Massacre is just a more superior band because their a lot more original and sound a lot better compared to them. Now on which band has more catchy tunes then it has to be The Dandy Warhols but Jonestown will always be a lot better then them

  • @raylot13 agreed, the dandy warhols has a better sound but in pure talent its brian jonestown massacre by a landslide. i dont think ive ever come across a band with such powerful lyrics before in my life. anton is amazing and the story of their trials and tribulations is sad but admirable. though i dont agree with their lifestyle i have to say that their music has to be some of the most meaningful music that exists today or ever, its not just music, its pure art.

  • I love the faint irish jig at 4 mins....makes me wanna drink some of the black stuff and swing someone around my office

  • when everybody’s an artist, nobody is. Antone is a fucking musical genius. one of the best parts from dig was seeing the proces of making this song. one of the best bands i've ever known and i hope i will see them live one day, it will be mindblowing. to bad they are never coming to holland.

  • @nerdheid7

They played in Amsterdam last summer , I was unfortunately away on holidays. I guess a once in a lifetime opportunity gone again, we;;, I'll always have Justin Biber:-)

  • easily the best american band of the past 20-15 years

  • @shambler92

    20-15 years? Public school?

  • @dystopiainmyhead (lol) and I mean that. Best comment I've read in long while

  • @shambler92 Dude they are European but yeah you're right

  • @skatefallsmash1 just kidding they're american

  • @shambler92 Absolutely

  • @shambler92

HUM, Neutral Milk Hotel, At the Drive-In, Wild Nothing, Elliott Smith, Team Sleep, Calla, The Blood Brothers, Dive Like Jehu, Mineral, Cave In, Planes Mistaken for Stars, Yeah Yeah Yeah's...

Just a handful of American bands from the past 15 years that are easily better than BJM

  • @diedahero Stupid.

  • @diedahero yes, of course, a bunch of bands with extensive 3 album careers and a couple crap emo acts thrown in for good measure. but hey, that's what you like, so good for you.

  • @itstherealmeok

As oppose to a band that refuses to break up, much like the Rolling Stones? Only the Stones didn't have to change/add to their line up every two years in an attempt to disguise that they have no original sound of their own.

And while I'm not sure what you categorize as Emo, mainly because is was never a music genre and is a term only used by tools who are completely incapable of telling the difference between low-fi and indie rock, but nothing I named would be called...emo.

  • @diedahero You obviously don't know what you're talking about. There is no "they." BJM was, is, and always will be Anton Newcombe's project. But then again, I'm not sure I would expect an emo kid to know that.

  • @itstherealmeok

Nice...too bad the same 4 people (with of course the adding of other musicians in and out which was my original, and relevant, post) have been involved with this solo project for over 10 years...

It's kinda sad that you would discount these members contributions because Wikipedia told you to. And again, only the senior editor of Spin Magazine would use the term, emo. I bet you think Nirvana and Mudhoney were Grunge too. What's worse, you use the term as slander. So sad.

  • @diedahero I'm not discounting anyone, I'm just telling you like it is. You obviously haven't got a freakin' clue because the last couple of albums have been recorded with all new collaborations. Anton is the only constant. And, hey, wow, looks like I really touched a nerve with the whole emo thing...but I guess sensitivity and self-consciousness what being an emo is all about. Be proud, young emo warrior.

  • @itstherealmeok

So now it's not only Newcobe's project, but that he's simply the only original member left huh? Sucks when someone who hasn't got a clue has to correct you, doesn't it? Next you're going to tell me that Gun's and Roses was just Ax Roses pet project and Slash, Izzy and Duff were just some studio dudes that helped out on the first 3 recordings.

As to the emo thing, don't transfer your need to try and slander someone with a music genre that doesn't even exist on to me man.

  • @diedahero wow...first the emo bands, and now you can name all the members of guns n roses by heart. That's some "interesting" taste you have there. I'm sure we're all impressed.

  • @itstherealmeok

Meh, you're boring. I understand it's embarrassing to be corrected on anything, especially when act like you know something about music but know deep in your heart you've learned everything you know from Wikipedia, but to resort to pizza toppings jokes...I'm just hoping that your under the age of fifteen. Tell you what, go find some Zines, actually read up on underground music instead of reading the Cliffnotes, and in a couple of years we'll try this again.

  • @diedahero ...Anyone who visits a video page then goes on to give a laundry list of all the bands everyone else "should" be listening to is an absolute douche. Wanna know something? Nobody here gives a shit about the bands you listen to. So why don't you stop promoting Spin magazine, Guns N Roses and shitty emo bands and go away?

  • @itstherealmeok

    Nice.

A: I was using Spin Magazine as an example of how lame you'd have to be to even use the term emo. Nice to see you're just smart enough to not understand that.

B: I only used the Guns N' Roses reference because the dumbass I was talking with didn't understand BJM was never a solo project. Never once did I say they were good or that other people should listen to them. Again, nice to see you're just smart enough to not understand that.

    C: Emo isn't a music genre...

  • @diedahero Couldn't help but notice you didn't mention your douchy habit of going to music pages and listing douchy bands you think we should listen to. Why are you so desperate to have what you like accepted by others? Are you that insecure? Stop promoting that garbage. If you prefer emo bands and 80s metal to BJM, then why do you even bother to continue to come here and comment repeatedly? Must a fragile ego coupled with emotional problems. Sell your computer and get a therapist instead.

  • @itstherealmeok

Says the person who tries to insult others by using music. You keep trying push the idea that I'm promoting something, overlooking that I've just been replying to post towards me. Should I have compared BJM to more obscure bands so my indie cred would have sat better with you? Maybe I should have talked about Japaneses or European shoegaze like Downy or Ride instead? Sorry if I'm not tragically hip enough for you hypocrite. By all means, teach me more about tolerance.

  • thanks, I'm gonna watch it soon..Anna Karina is gorgeus

  • @wolfamericannightmar what you said is what I often think about. thumbs up for the truth.

  • im hypnotised <3

  • I first got into The Brian Jonestown Massacre about two weeks ago. I'd equate the experience to a religious awakening.

  • I saw them in June and in all honesty they were hands down the best live band I have ever seen peroid.

  • @FTW6661369 If that was June 8th at the Theater of Living Arts in Philadelphia, then I would whole- heartedly agree!

  • The realist!

  • BJM are undeniably amazing
