I bought one of those a few months ago and returned it. I believe that it was released well before they ironed out all of the kinks. Mine must have been a newer model, as the antenna was built-in (did not extend) and had Windows Vista Home Premium pre-installed. The two most sigificant problems were that the touch screen works VERY poorly -- where you touch on the screen was off by a 1/4" or more of where it responded, making usuage difficult at best. The battery often lasted < 1/2 hour.

I bought a similar device from SONY in 2004, but it was a gift so I only could test ist for 24 hours. Wouldn't have wanted it anyway. It's surely a great thing to have standing between other people in an undergrund during rushhor time. But I loved my SONY TR 1, much better with enough capability to make a nearly photorealistic 3-D Simulation while underway and capable of playing Ages of Empire and Sim City. Try that with this thing...

Gizmodo should get some more research done before they actually start talking about the device in question. You have the device in your hand, why not study it a little before actually going into a commentary and review of it. The whole thing seemed so off the cuff and so unprofessional.

You're right, I wouldn't have agreed with you if this happened once (lack of research on the device.) But if any of you guys remember the sony mayo review it was just like this one. "Here we have a....jack, so that I can...errr jack off." He should have shown exactly how he launched the applications and the character recognition functions as well as its ability to render 3D graphics.
