The "squeaky" that some are referring to, we learned is typical for the Broadway voice. Look up - My New Philosophy - You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown -by Kristin Chenoweth. Some Broadway child stars sing through their nose.We hate the nasal sound but were taught it preserves the voice when having to belt songs daily . Actually Sutton does a beautiful job singing this song. She is also an amazing actress.. You tube clips don't do any theatrical singer justice,Sutton is amazing live.

I am stunned to see that so many people are hating on Sutton! The fact the people don't see her character ASTOUNDS me, as I see this as such a powerful performance. This song doesn't call for a large dance number or over acting. It's a simple, powerful song, where Millie REALIZES that Jimmy is the one, and her ideals have changed for the man she loves. The feeling and character is expressed through the dynamics. The grand crescendo is the "character." Sutton is a true performer.

Although I preferred Susan Egan and Amanda Holden's performances in this role, I actually liked Sutton as Millie. To me, this was certainly her breakthrough performance. All her other performances pale in comparison to this (and while she was never particularly bad in other roles after this, I wouldn't nominate her for any award at all for her other jobs).
