Yes. Have to agree. Nobody has reached this level at the age of 20, before. It's unbeleavable what he does here. Even Faster as Paganini i would say. But i can't put my finger on it why there is still something i don't like. Help me out but with respect okay?
@perothing Start to answer myself here. Could it be that emotions need some time to understand what's happening and that these 100 notes per second is way too fast to comprehend?
Listen to the solo of "General Hospital" (0:54). In my opinion, the best solo of Yngwie's entire career. THis solo is among the greatest rock solos ever, and I mean the best solos by EVH, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and so on.
If you don't like this, you have no heart and no soul.I mean...Just listen to this sound. It's unbelievably beautiful and so melodic.Just perfect. My favourites are Jet to Jet (the first one in this video) and Island in the Sun (the one at 01:43).
Yngwie's my all time favourite guitarist.Hammett made me pick up the guitar, but Yngwie made me learn how to live and feel the music!
@jjaazziittoo Dude - he was in a coma for a week and reportedly suffered nerve damage in his picking hand. To make things worse, his mom died while he was still in the hospital. When you play at that high level you HAVE TO keep playing or you will get rusty. It is NOT like riding a bike. His playing definitely suffered that year. By the time Eclipse was recorded, he was back on track.
It's great no doubt! I think this and the his cd's up to 7th sign are all amazing on their own! He changed on every cd but there are gems on all of them! Rising Force, Marching Out, Trilogy have to be my favs. But the song writing on Trilogy,Odyssey & Eclipse are really good and not just a vessel for a wicked solo! Every one that likes Yngwie loves his tone and i'm one but there is something about the tone on Odyssey that pierces my ear at high levels! I love the solo on dreaming! SIC SIC SIC!
@Yngsatchvai Odyssey doesn't have Yngwie playing near-par cause of the car accident. Yeah, tone (maybe cause his picking hand was still fucked-up) is light/harsh. Songs are TOO radio-oriented 4 me. Trilogy, Eclipse, Fire+Ice have similar style that he loved. Marching Out is untouchable! 7th Sign was a rebirth. Alchemy's good!
Hiroshima is my favorite solo. The way he hits the vibrato on the notes are completely devastating. Not just the speed,It's his huge vibrato that really emphasizes the great notes. That's really what gets me in his playing
Well, the solo are very great indeed. But not at all the best music he ever did. The songs are very forgettable. Some nice tunes, but for me, only the solo's are great on this album.
I wonder what his playing would be like if he never had that accident in 87. He is without a doubt been touched be God. BTW I Love this Rock on Yngwie For Ever!!
From a metal standpoint I think YJM was the first. Ppl will argue for Uli Roth , Blackmore, Rhoads but none of those guys could pull off playing any paganini or fast bach or sweep effectively too. I remember when I heard Alkatrazz on the radio the first time and it was like a revelation. I though "Finally, NOW thats how metal should played!". BTW I have full respect for McLaughlin, Dimeola, Holdsworth and Morse as the preshred fathers
Where did you live that they actually played Alcatrazz on the radio? I have only found one station in my life anywhere that actually plays metal on a regular basis: Extra 99.1 Champaign Illinois.
@YnoT0207 I agree about "Soldier Without Faith". It's also one of his longest solos and not ONCE does he repeat the same riff. Today his playing sounds like exercising scales.
@StanleyKu There's good improv solos on Unleash The Fury. I like vox on Perpetual Flame. Overall instrumentals aren't as good as 1983-1992, but HOLY SHIT ! THE ARPEGGIOS + MELODY on Caprici di Diablo fuckin sick! (does repeat 2 much). 7th Sign cd has balls - he was hungry/angry at former management/record co. screwing him. "Alchemy" is REALLY good - Mark Boals on vox, great guitar. He's using WAY too much digital delay since late 90's. Makes it harder to hear individual notes. STILL KING
@YnoT0207 Interesting...I liked UTF for the songs but the solos seemed interchangeable to me. I also liked The Seventh Sign more for the songs, new band chemistry rather than his playing (Never Die is great because it's so angry!).. I really thought Fire and Ice was his last album were he was at his creative improvising peak. Just my two cents...
I used to make tons of tapes of nothing but Holdsworth, McLaughlin, Zappa, Garsed, DiMeola, etc. solos on them. Intense way to listen to shredding. . .
TU que eres? un pendejo como que el caprice de paganini no te sorprendio idiota? tienes cagada en el cerebro o que mierdas?.... que estupido cuando seas un buen musico opina tus mamadas pendejo
Love these solos. I did the same thing and put all the solos back to back. It's an amazing thing listening only to the solos on their album. I remember trying to learn them. I happened to be in College for music and Yngwie was just advertised in Guitar Player Magazine where he sent in a tape and then was invited to the U.S. I heard about Alcatraz and got the album.
thanx dude

I say he plays better than this on the LIVE version of this album. But his two later solo albums are great, imo.

Terrible band - the drums and keyboards suck......and the guitar playing is very one-dimensional and dull.

You got to remember a few things;
He's still giving us what he can
He had a car wreck and broke is playing hand
Had a concusion for a week then woke up
Plagued by his managers stealing his cash
He still comes up with great melodies but his singer sucks.
He's not under as much pressure as he owns the label and is approaching the end of his career, so give him a break man
