  • Um, WOW?!!! I think I started playing the flute when I was 8...I'm playing this solo for Solo/Ensemble on March 3rd (I'm a sophomore in high school). Haha, I just got the music about 2 weeks ago and I have 2 or 3 weeks left to polish it...I hope I end up sounding as perfect as you do!!! My gosh, am I jealous! You are the most incredible child prodigy I've ever seen!!!!! Happy flauting! :)

  • @horserider723 Thanks so much!!! We're both so lucky we play the flute!!! I hope you play great in your solo contest!!!

    --Emma

  • I played this piece last year as a junior in high school for a solo contest. My style varied from yours, which is great about music, but my judge loved my performance and told me I had great vibrato and should play for bigger symphonies. We have some differences in the way we played, but you do a beautiful job. I'm proud to be a fellow flute player of yours!

  • @alannajpie Hi, Thanks!!! Sounds like you're a terrific player!!! Congratulations!!!

    --Emma

  • Great job, i just played this for my flute jury. We seem to have the same taste in music! =) I was just wondering, who is your teacher?

  • I'm teaching this solo to one of my 7th grade students now! Such a beautiful piece. Great job!

  • and how long did it take you to learn this peice??

  • @italiantuna28 Hi, It's awesome you're playing the Enesco - it's a really great piece!!! You should be able to play it by February. Try working on the runs way way more than the other parts. And every day after you practice have a performance of however much of it you know. I play for my stuffed animals if no one is around. Good luck, play great, and have fun!!! --Emma

  • @GeoRockMin thanks! :)))

  • I love ya Emma.....your amzing! Its incredible how such a big sound can come out of this little girl playing her flute! Im learning this peice currently for my district solo in Febuary I believe. Im really excited! Its a beautiful peice! Im really nervous that I may not learn it in time though! :/

  • You must have one hell of a lessons teacher.

  • @deadgalsdontcry Hi, Yah I love my teacher!!! --Emma

  • @GeoRockMin and im sure your teacher loves you!

  • Long have u been playing? How long do u practice for a day? And this was great super easy t listen to and play along with :)

  • @bgruskin Hi, Thanks for watching!!! I started when I was 3. I think when I made this video I practiced about 1-1/2 or 2 hours a day. But I'm 11 now and practice about 3 hours a day. Have fun playing your flute!!! --Emma

  • Yes she is. How

  • That's funny, this kid is playing better than some of the college players.

  • EXCELLENT!

  • This is really great Emma! I can't wait to start learning this piece.

  • @kristiinnj Hi, It's really fun to play!!! I hope you like it!!!

    --Emma

  • i have to play this for solo fest in a week and im scared your so good!

  • @xdesieee Hi, I know what you mean. I get scared too. What helps me is I try to remember that people want to have fun listening. So I make sure to show how much I love the piece and love to play the flute. If you have fun the audience has fun too!!! I hope you play great!!! Let me know how it goes!!!

    --Emma

  • I played this song for my solo at solo and ensemble this year. it's so pretty <3

  • @LonelyHeartz2 Very cool!!! Good choice!!! --Emma

  • you are soo good, i wish i could pla like you

  • What kind of flute do you use?

  • @MissElyBelly Hi, Thanks for watching!!! I have a Powell Conservatory flute. I love it!!!

    --Emma

  • Shoot me, I played for like 7 years and I just got to like grade 10 and this girl is already kicking my ass, please, I feel so inadequate as a human being.

  • Wowwww. I'm beginning to feel like a stalker, commenting on all your videos, but I am playing this for a competition quite soon, except I'm 15... Making me feel dumb. Or just unskilled. You are amazing!

  • @banananer16 Hi, I hope you play great in the competition!!! This is such a fun piece!!!

    --Emma

  • Wonderfull!!!!!

  • Emma, you are amazing. God bless your soul! You, my dear, will have a very successful career; this I see. You're so mature and humble. This will take toy far. Big hug! Never change!

  • This is great!! I've been studying the flute at the conservetoire, but I never saw a girl your age playing so beautifull!! Good luck with your future. Btw where do you come from? I am from the Netherlands

  • @1903Kawa Hi, Thanks for watching my video!!! It's great you play the flute too!!! I live in the US!!!

    --Emma

  • AH I SO JEALOUS!

  • I love this piece!!!! I played it my sophmore year for Solo and Ensemble.

  • Emma, I have played flute for two years, my band instructor loves my tone, I am not to great at the breathing part though what should I do?!?!?

  • @ekc98 Hi, It's great you're playing for 2 years!!! For breathing try to plan where you breath. Make sure it's a spot that makes sense. Then make yourself play to that spot. Don't take a breath just because. Maybe try that and let me know how it goes!!!

    --Emma

  • Hi Emma!!! I been playing a flute for 3 years almost and I got questions to ask you...Do you ever concentrate more on your scales then playing solo's?? Or the other way around because I like playing music more then anything else. Also how do you remember a 6-8 minutes solo??? And I know for fingers are sore playing so fast. Was your Flute very expensive????

  • @MrzzN3IKA Hi, Thanks for watching!!! Yah I play scales every day. Lots. Also etudes, and tone studies. About an hour of that stuff every day. For memory I spend alot of time singing and humming my pieces when I'm not playing the flute. Yes my flute is expensive. A real beauty but only silver. But a person can sound great on any flute. The flutist is more important than the flute. Have fun playing!!! --Emma

  • Hi there Emma! You play so beautifully for somebody of your age! Was just wondering what kind of flute you play? Hayley x

  • @HayleyBryden Hi Hayley, Thanks for watching!!! I have a Powell Conservatory flute. I love it!!! --Emma

  • Hi, Emma, wow you are truly amazing. I just love your tone and how you are so in to the music! :) I have a few questions that I hope you can answer, How do you tougue so fast and make each of your notes so clear, and also how do you play the high notes so beautifully? thank youuu, and I hope you'll get better and better

  • @5teeheehee Hi, Thanks for watching!!! I try to only tongue enough to ping the note but concentrate mostly on the air. Your tongue shouldn't stop the air. On high and low notes I do the opposite of what most people do. I use a ton of strong air for low notes and a tiny laser point of air for high ones. People argue with me about it, but it works for me. Let me know how it goes!!! Have fun playing your flute!!!

    --Emma

  • @GeoRockMin Hey, Emma, thank you for all your tips, they are really helpful and I will definitely try them! I know I've already said how amazing of a flute player you are, but I just got to say it again! I mean, no every one is blessed with such a amazing gift of talent, you should be truly proud of your self! thanks again, I hope we can be friends! :)

  • You, my dear, have made me so happy! I love your tone, and I wish you the best in your future playing. I am a flautist as well, and have been playing for 7 years now. What I marvel most at is how composed you are; what do you do to steady your nerves? I tend to get nervous, especially during solos. I positively love you! Good luck in all you do!

  • @kaysama09 Hi, Thanks for watching!!! It's great you play the flute!!! I always get nervous too. Sometimes I can't believe people don't see my knees shaking. But when it's time to play I really just want people to hear how beautiful the music is and how beautiful the flute sounds, and I kind of forget about me. Does that make any sense?? Thanks again!!!

    --Emma

  • @GeoRockMin It makes perfect sense to me. I think I should focus more on making the music sound great instead of focusing on myself. Great advice :D

  • you pretty much rock my socks. you could get into interlochen in the high school division i'm pretty sure, you musical maniac! i just played this song for a concert and absolutely fell in lovee with it. lovely job, and you made my day. never stop playing :)

  • @warnertennis2426 Hi, Thanks for being so nice!!! Yah, it's a really beautiful piece!!! Have fun playing your flute!!!

    --Emma

  • Hi, Thanks for watching!!! I love to play the flute!!! The most magical instrument in the world!!!

    --Emma

  • @GeoRockMin I agree. great instrument for any genre and small enough to carry anywhere, sounds sorta like a sales pitch!

  • This is one of my favourite piece and you played it in my favourite kind of way!! Those moves.. tone production!

Where did you perform this at/?

    Haelin=)

  • Hi Haelin, Thanks!!! This was at a community center near where I live. They have some music recitals there.

    --Emma

  • You are a stunning young lady to be playing this well. Credit to you for practising!!! I had yet to play this piece prior to listening to your rendition and I thought you did a lot of really beautiful phrasings which were loaded with varying characters. the memorisation added to the wow factor. Congratulations from Australia Miss Emma on this performance.

  • I think I'm learning this piece since I got the sheet music. So do you have any tips on this beautiful French piece??

    Thank you,

    --Haelin;):)

  • Hi Haelin, For me alot if it was making the breaths make sense or it gets too choppy. And being really rhythmically accurate. It's a great piece!!! Have fun!!!

    --Emma

  • Excelent tone!!!!

    A kiss from Portugal! :-D

  • Thanks!!! :) :)

  • woah! Did you play that memorized?!

  • Hi, Thanks for watching!!! For me it's easier to play without music. One less thing to fuss with.

    --Emma

  • Wow... wonderful song and how you played it was wonderful, wonderful, super wonderful!

How often do you have lesson with your flute teacher? and how long did you take to learn this piece???

    Thank you,

    From:Haelin:):)

  • Hi Haelin!!! Thanks!!! I have a lesson once a week with the best teacher in the world!!!

This is another great French Connservatory piece. It would probably take a couple of weeks to learn the notes, but a month at least to decide what the music says. Give it a try. It's so much fun!!!

    --Emma

  • Liebe Emma,

    danke dir.

Vielleicht lernst du langsam zu spielen,

damit du den Gedanken der Musik tief denken kannst.

Du bist sehr sehr gut! Ich liebe dich und dein Musizieren.

  • Thank you!!! You're so nice!!! I think the flute is the most magical instrument in the world!!!

    --Emma :) :)

  • Hi, you are amazing and you know it... Now you just have to be or stay humble... Everybody know that you are a little star and you see and know that, but work, work, always work and you'll be perfect... And once again, The MOST important thing, when you have this level, is humility... Bravo

  • Okay , I'll remember. Thanks for being nice!!!

    --Emma

  • hey emma! you are AMAZING!

did you choose the flute as an instrument yourself? im looking forward to more videos later :)

  • Hi, Yes I chose it myself. When I heard the sound of the fliute I knew it was for me. Thanks for watching!!!

  • Hi Emma. Wow just discovered your clips on youtube cuz I googled for the Bozza Image (which you were great on too!) I played the Enesco again this year, currently trying to learn the Jolivet. So... I know you hear this a lot: "you're incredible", "so talented", "great tone" yadda yadda yadda ;-) But you know what you're absolutely AMAZING at? Those slurs in the Presto, where he slurs sixteenth notes 2+3 and 4+1 together. Just AMAZING!! -Mike, Washington DC

  • Hi, Thanks!!! I started playing when I was 3 and practice about 2 hours a day. I'm glad you play the flute too!!! --Emma :) :)

  • lol!! the last note for the pianist is so out of it XD She looked destabilized too for how it sounded :P At least the soloist makes it look more credible ^^

  • Hi, Thanks for listening!!! Yes, John got a wrong note in that last chord. But he is really great to work with. Stuff happens. We had a good laugh!!!!! Thanks again for listening!!! --Emma :) :)

  • BRAVISSIMA !!! Ma cambia pianista !

  • It would be so awesome to have a gold flute!!! I could love gold and shiny!!!!

    --Emma :) :)

  • you're really good for an 8 year old.likebetter than some people in my high school band

  • Congratulations Emma!

I just listened to your performance of the Faure Fantasie and also this piece, and although I had been very impressed with your playing last year, it is now so much more clear, artistic and confident. Well done too, to all your family and teachers who help you to flourish like this! I look forward in future years to hearing your CDs, and live performances as you tour the world.

    - Andrew, UK

  • Thank you!! It means so much to me for you to say that!!!! I'll keep working hard.

    --Emma :)

  • I hear you are looking forward to playing the Hindemith Sonata. Good luck with that! I think it is very beautiful and intense music. Do you mind me asking you what type of flute you play?

  • Thanks for listening!! I have a Powell Conservatory flute. --Emma

  • just great! Do you want to be a solo player when you grow up?...because I think you should! You really have a talent...I mean it :)

  • Hi, Thanks for being so nice!!! --Emma

  • holy cow i was here when you played this it was at a piano recital thing rite?

  • Yes, I always seem to be the only person not playing the piano. The Sonata Festival too!!! Thanks for listening!!!! --Emma

  • Wow~Brava, brava~Very nice. How long have you been playing for?

  • Thanks!!! I've been playing since I was 3. --Emma

  • who do you study with?

  • you are amamzing, have you played the Hindemith Sonata?

  • Thanks!! I'm working on the Burton now, but hope the Hindemith is next. It's so amazing!! --Emma

  • the burton is one of my favorites good luck!

P.S. i have played piccolo for 9 years along with flute, when you do start piccolo just try to be as seperate as you can can with flute so you don't end up with a smilley embouchure! (tip becuase i did and i had to relearn my flute embouchure lol)

  • I hope she decides never to play piccolo, Every person I know that has tried to play piccolo ended up making their flute tone suck Alot!

  • Everyone needs to play the piccolo. If you want to make a living as a professional, you need to have that job skill. It's like being a professional skier (sp?) with only one ski. I personally love the picc, but it just doesn't make any sense not to learn it. You just have to treat them like separate instruments.

  • Haha, me too. That was an agonizing semester. You have a real talent, Emma, keep it up! I just finished the Burton for the last recital I did, so I'm a little jealous. :) It sounds great!

  • Ahh you are SO talented I cannot even put it into words!! Keep up the great work girly!!

  • Wow, you are incredible and have so much potential to be something great. I am very impressed to see someone 9 years younger than I and play at a similar level as me. Keep up the good work!

  • Great job! The last time I played this, my piano player couldn't handle it and couldn't keep up. It was a mess. Good job by both of you!

  • Thank you!! And yes, John is a fantastic accompanist!!

  • Hey Emma! If you can, PLEASE come to Minnesota and perform something..just ANYTHING, I would love to see you play. Its crazy to see an 8 yr old play so well!

By the way Emma, have you played any of Paul Taffanel's pieces? I'm just asking because I'm playing the Andante Pastoral et Scherzzetino (composed: Taffanel) for a competition and if you've played that piece, it would be amazing if you could give me some advice possibly. That would literally mean the would to me!

    Thanks a lot!

    -Graham

  • Hi Graham, I don't think I'll be in Minnesota soon. And I haven't played any Taffanel pieces yet, just the exercises. I am performing at the National Flute Conventiom in New York City. Are you going?? Thanks for listening to my video!!

  • ummmm probably not in New York. I'm too caught up in school at the moment and I have that competition that I was talking about in a couple months and i really have to practice, BUT if I had the money and time, I would definitely go!

    Sorry :(

  • Wow! That's exciting! Congratulations! What are you playing?

I'll be there, so I look forward to hearing you!

  • Hi, Emma is playing Faure Fantasie on Saturday evening, and a duet on a Thursday that isn't finalized yet. Please come up and say "HI". We are looking forward to meeting Emma's YouTube friends!! We really appreciate the encouragement!!

  • Very good. The posture is better. It sounds nice

  • This is awesome. Sound, technique, articulation, expression, memory. All fantastic.

It might seem strange, but one of the most interesting parts of this was at 05:12. You came in just slightly early, but of course you knew it...You listened, slowed down, and fixed the problem within a measure. You didn't get confused, you didn't lose your composure, and you didn't wait for the pianist to fix things. It shows a true sense of musical maturity as a performer and ensemble player. Wonderful job

  • Thank you so much!! We really appreciate it!!

  • Whizkid

The progress is very amazingly quick

  • Another GREAT performance Emma!!!! You are better every time I hear you!!! Hope things are going well and look forward to seeing you in summer!!!

  • Hi and thanks!! Glad we'll see you again. It's coming up soon. Mom says Hello Hello!

  • wa~ oh~~~8 years old !

    great great!

    me too !

    I love flute music!

i hope you can come to Chinese Twain playing!Go!~you are no1!

  • hi

    ni hoe ma?(how are you?)

    Are You 8 OLD?

    wonderful good!

  • Hi and thank you for listening!! Yes, Emma is 8 years old and loves her flute.

  • Once again, the double tounging is amazing! I love the new outfit... it's got "spunk" just like Emma! Just curious about the pianist... it's always the same person... how did you meet? GO STEELERS!!!

  • Thanks!! Tonguing is easier now that the front teeth have grown back. Emma works with several accompanists, but has known John since she was very little. He was frequently the accompanist at her older sister's violin recitals. STEELERS ROCK!!

  • This girl is a wonderful musician. I have sent some of your videos to the President of the AADGT who takes care of gifted musical children.

I shall let you know, Emma.....

  • Thank you! I think flute music is very magical!
