  • You can say what you want about synthesizers. Music doesn't have to be heavy to be good. Key's have a beautiful sound, and Rush show's this better than anyone else.

  • Geddy's "raccoon hat" hair period...

  • I say this with the utmost hetero masculinity, but Geddy has amazing eyes....does anyone know why he keeps these great eyes always obscured under his sunglasses? I thought maybe a sensitivity to light, or to add to his badass allure? Your thoughts? fact knowledge?

  • @Someguyfrom1973 I think he just got tired of dealing with contacts. He wore glasses on and off until 1990ish when he started wearing them all the time.

  • @Shiv91ify makes sense, I never thought about contacts. Maybe they were giving his eyesight problems. Many have issues wearing them.

  • No song better captures being alone, under the stars, in a Canadian Winter.

  • I LOVE U RUSH, U R THE BEST THING THAT EVER HAPPEND 2 MUSIC!

  • Chills.

  • @Kostas4e the Steinberger L-series

  • They're just looking into the distance...........

Unos animales !!!

  • What kind of bass is Geddy playing?

  • @Kostas4e Don't know the model, but it's a headless Steinberger.

  • @Kostas4e fender jazz

  • @Kostas4e oh my bad.....he usually plays a fender jazz, hes got some headless POS in this video....

  • Love the intro

  • I wouldn't really call this rock in any sense, but it's... incredibly good...

  • The lyrics just blow you away...People weren't happy with the synths of their signature at the time...I will always love Power Windows. You can slap it in,not skip a tune and if you had the fortune of seeing the concert...Something you will never forget

  • geddy lee, the only guitarist that can rock a headless guitar

    (yes a bass is a guitar )

  • Why is every 80's rush music video devoid of alex lifeson? So annoying, and sad! He's such an integral part of the rush sound, especially in the 80's geddy synth era, especially this song...

  • Mystic Rhythms and Territories should be part of the soundtrack of Aliens 2.

  • @tyme4mike Agree. And I've been listening the past 40 years.

  • i hear other bands and think, i still like rush more

  • who ever disliked this they are stupid, retarded, mentle, and a loser

and i know where you live so go fall in a ditch

  • Rush is Alien...

  • rush una grandiosa banda

rush hace da cancion una escuela de musica

    flui el suave ritmo

  • HOW DOES HE MAKE THAT NOISE WITH HIS GUITAR!?

  • Comment removed

  • @crazypenny94 Guitar synth maybe?

  • 4:43 - Looks like a Tool animation... long before Tool existed :)

  • brilliant? yes, but comparing them to the mighty Zeppelin and Floyd is just dumb...APPLES AND ORANGES, no better or worse, they are an island unto themselves as are the aforementioned bands

  • my favorite song and band

  • Possibly the best Power Trio ever !!

  • @rohanshah89

    Next to Triumph lol

  • @gotbass33727 As much as i respect triumph, i still think rush has got the edge over them. Granted i haven't heard as much of triumph as compared to Rush

  • @rohanshah89

    rush is better. :)

  • I love this song although Geddys hair cut was a bad idea lol. This era is what I like to call the " René Auberjonois Era" because Geddy looks like him lol.

  • Best bass player ever vs. worst mullet ever... who will win? You decide!

  • To me, this is one of Rush's greatest songs. But it's almost indescribable; awe-struck, sad, complex, dark, refreshingly simple, very adult. I've always been fascinated with this video, too.

  • @Eternityflows YES YES YES! Someone else who has the fortitude to call it like it is. Keep on testifying for Rush because they are far ahead of all other bands of the last 40 years in musical skill and lyrical craftsmanship. I grew up with all the great bands and artists of the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and there are many awesome memories and fantastic tunes to go along with them, but Rush is IT. I had great buzzes with all the others but Rush is so diverse and dynamic that it's almost surreal.

  • A very strong end to one of their best albums.

IMO - This is Peart's Magnum Opus, certainly one of his best, a beautifully structured drum and stunning lyrics, I get shivers at "Feel the powers and wonder what they are".

It took me a long time to come around to Power Windows, but this is one RUSH's best, I really love Middletown Dreams and Grand Designs, but this song is the jewel of the album.

  • haha. geddy lee looks like a dinosaur.

  • @BrillianttAdventure a dinosaur? xD wtf man

  • @BrillianttAdventure nice weed, bro

  • Truly one of my favourites! Power Windows, Moving Pictures and A Farewell to Kings really blow my mind, but I can't really tell which one's better...

  • Officially added to the list of Replay Offenders. Conviction: Rape.

  • Saw this live like a Week ago in Maryland...Made the top 5 best concerts I've ever seen.

  • @MelancholyChrist WHAAAT. i saw them a month ago and they didn't play this... *sniff* but i will see them in a few weeks! are you sure it wasn't marathon? kinda similar, and that's what they played in nc.

  • @6cobaltblue1 P.S. I love u too. Peace and prayers and good thoughts coming at you from me. xoxo

  • @6cobaltblue1 Thanks. I know I'm putting myself 'out there' with a comment like that, but if people who claim to know anything about music and the artists that craft it, then they will appreciate the wisdom of my comment and realize that it makes complete sense. Furthermore, they'll realize it's RIGHT! Just delve into the brilliance that emanates from them at their performances and on their albums and one will soon have to accept that RUSH is incomparable in the field of musical ability.

  • Each time I hear this song, its just blows my mind. Its amazing.

  • one word: creativity

  • this song will always be my go to song when im in a sruggle, panic or any situation, rush will always be my savior, my earliest memory of this song is on my 7th birthday, i pulled out rush in rio, listened to the disc, got blown away, i ran upstairs into dads office to get a rush disk and he braught me power windows,

    Rush ROCKS!

  • This video was directed by Jerry Casale of Devo

  • Most people experience puberty in their teens. Geddy Lee went through in his fourties.

  • When I first saw these guys in the 80s in Toronto, I dropped six hits of white clinical acid, followed that with a huge joint of black afghani hashish laced with china white opium, and went on the most fucking surreal trip of my entire drug hazed life...it was an experience of epic proportions...the only problem is that I still haven't 'returned'...

  • i like the live version better, but this is still an awesome song.

  • @happyface4444 That's how I feel about A Passage To Bangkok.

  • @BlackLink27 agreed, also a ghost of a chance

  • Siempre me a gustado esta cancion

  • I just got this on vinyl, it's amazing!!!!!!

  • Once i learn how to do percussion i want to attempt this song lol

  • that just blew my mind

  • They ARE the best band of the last 40+ years. YES! NOT the Stones..NOT Pink Floyd..NOT Led Zeppelin..no one..RUSH is the most technically and lyrically superior group to exist..and I've heard them all. Yep, a BIG revelation..well, just deal with it because it's the truth. Forty+ years after they started, they are still the most powerful and superior live act in the music business so don't start any of your shit about "what about this band?" and "what about that band". RUSH IS IT!

  • @tyme4mike anything thats not rush sucks in my opinion

  • @tyme4mike Rush AND Pink Floyd!!

  • @irena7777777 LOL Guess I can't argue with that too much. I grew up with their album "Umma Gumma" in my collection. Remember the piece from it called "Careful With That Axe, Eugene"?

  • @tyme4mike

Couldn't agree more. I grew up listening to this band (39 now) and all the others you mentioned and i can safely say that none of the others stir up emotions like this band do. I Love all the others too that you mentioned, but Rush are something more than Special.

  • @Hellmut34 Thanks for your comment. I realize I went out on a dangerous limb making that statement, but one only needs to sit back and listen to Rush's potent musical skill presented in song after song after song. If they're able to think outside the box even a little, they'll see I'm telling the truth. I've seen them several times and it's like putting on a set of earphones and plugging them into my RUSH collection. Their mutual respect for one another has much to do with their success as well.

  • @tyme4mike Subjectively speaking, Rush are no doubt one of the great bands of our time, but you're acting like someone with a grave mental illness. Rush might be more technically advanced and "lyrically superior" to Pink Floyd, but I prefer Gilmour's solos and their arrangements (listen to Echoes). Dream Theater are far more technically advanced than Rush, but then again I prefer Rush. And it's that fucking simple... if you can't form a proper opinion about something, just shut the fuck up.

  • @rexasul It is MY opinion which this forum is about you arrogant inbred monkey. And another thing dipshit, my opinion is right. "Grave mental illness"? That's what necrophiliacs like you have. And remember, you started this just because I have a strong feeling toward the greatest band ever. I'll cut you a new asshole and leave you wanting more. What cesspool did you crawl out of anyway? The one that your sexual partners bathe in?

  • @tyme4mike Why do you think you're so special? You're a fucking dunce who can't think rationally enough to form a fair and reasonable opinion. I'm not going take you seriously if you can call me arrogant and then go on to say "my opinion is right". If you can't be bothered to think, then don't reply. I can't be bothered to converse with someone who can't be bothered to think, especially one that labels themself a Rush fan.

  • @rexasul You're the asshole who made the original rude comment fuckstick. So if you can dish it then be prepared to take it or YOU shut the fuck up..which is what you should do anyway because all you do is open your ignorant cakehole to change the placement of your fungus covered feet.

  • @tyme4mike I am fully prepared to "take shit", just not the baseless ramblings of an mentally challenged thundercunt.

  • @tyme4mike yes, they play those songs, that are so elusive, and their magic music make my morning mood!

  • @tyme4mike well said.

  • @kennyplay Thanks kenny. I know my comment is straight forward and I don't mean to insult the fans of so many great groups, but just do the comparisons. Everything from the consistency of their instrumental craftsmanship to the continuing potency of their lyrical work has remained as musically profound today as it did forty years ago, and to a degree that few, VERY few other bands can remotely approach. Yes, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, et al are awesome acts, but RUSH rises above them all. Peace man.

  • 0:22 Gives me chills everytime

  • Neils drums on this are so freakin' HOT! I bet his EKG has a groove to it as well...

  • @mfpinterceptor I'm also willing to bet Neil's heart beats in 5/4 time.

  • It's neat, This video (and superconductor also) was directed by one of the members of Devo and it shows.

  • Does anyone else find the chorus the most euphoric music ever? I'm usually stood up wailing "Myyyyystiiiiiiic rhythmmmmmmmmssssss!" with my arms aloft by that point. Feels good, man.

  • @nequest You're not the only one :)

  • best song on the catalog

  • not my favorite RUSH, i dont think they have ever made a bad song.

  • I've always been a fan of RUSH.....I'm also a singer song writer a style some what different to hard rock but still like to think that my musicianship has been influneced by RUSH's music!!! If anyone is interested in having a listen, visit world wide web myspace dot com forward slash darrencinque

  • Such beautiful imagery and sound that flow and compliment one another magnificently

  • 0 people have no idea what good music is.

  • 0 people dislike this song..

  • @ipvideogames Don't jinx it

  • @ipvideogames: That has to be a testament to Rush's brilliance, and to the intelligence level of their fan base.

  • Sorry SolidKodi but I can't here you over the chorus of God's universal creation giving glory to the One who created it.

    Regard the clear night sky.

  • @JBodine67 :E

  • @SolidKodi what is :E?...sorry,I'm old.

  • What has often surprised me about Rush is what big sound they get from just 3 guys and it isn't just multi layered tracks either . They do this stuff on stage . It's amazing .

  • i sometimes catch a window into the future. i am not alone.

  • This song sends shivers down my spine... gets me in a trance. It really creeps me out sometimes o.O

  • Our spirit is our life-force actuated by God.As human beings, we have the gift of communication with our Creator.Animals do not pray. They are not conscious of the existence of God.Animals operate on God-given instinct.

Humans do not have a spirit. We are spirits in the material world...

  • We suspend our disbelief. We are entertained = How I think

  • cant describe how these songs make me feel....long live rush.

  • I think this song has an evolutionary theme going on.

  • What separates mankind from animals is the fact that we are spiritual beings, and they are not...Neil Peart has given us this song as his reflection on spiritual matters.

We all get a bit wiser as we grow older....

  • @JBodine67 how arragant to think that animals don't have a spirit, you like many misled by some ancient writting that you are told to bow to. were is your spirit when you get chased down by a lion in the sarenghetti?

  • @gardenkeeper71 I went to see the man on the silver mountain...and he told me all about these sacred truths...

So,I follow the way of logic and reason. Also the way of love and self-sacrifice.

...and I enjoy a good RUSH song now and then...They are good Canadian boys.

    Peace to you Gardenkeeper......

  • @JBodine67 Perhaps...*strokes beard* Perhaps we are the greater being we worship and we don't even know it? :o I know it sounds a little...OUT THERE...but think it through, you yourself said we are spiritual beings living in a material world...

  • @SolidKodi That is a thoughful comment SolidKodi...Deep....But there is only One Supreme Spirit, The Creator,The Great Spirit, which venerates worship from his creation.

    Peace to you SolidKodi.

  • @JBodine67 whats to say we are all not part of the supreme spirit, that we as a whole make it up. whats to say that without us the supreme spirit becomes, pointless?

  • @SolidKodi ...That is a good comment,SolidKodi...We,and all the natural universe are The Great Spirit's Creation....The creation is not greater than the One who created it.For example, the artist owns, and is master of, his art.The art is not greater than, nor has any power over, the artist.

    Peace SolidKodi.

  • @JBodine67 We are the artist and the art.

  • This song takes you to a place many light years from this place, that's the vision i get anyway

  • this was not only my all-time favorite Rush album ever, if I had to pick just one, but also the epitome of '80's prog-rock where the band took their own uniqueness and melded it with the then futuristic sounds and their own influences and talents and still kept up with the times-just like then, just like now-just like Rush! Forever!

  • Have no fear, music will circle around to speak the truth of heart and mind once again.

Just enjoy life until it happens.

  • Alex Lifeson didn't like this period of keyboards - but I have to agree with Geddy, that some will say that this is the best Rush! It's as good as anything ELP or King Crimson did. They managed to be heartfelt and futuristic at the same time ! How in the hell??

  • Drums are so complex on this one. Full of hidden delights!

  • GODS.....

  • I wish Rush would go back to this and Signals. We need the smooth Rush back.

  • Those Pretend being an Ever Suns Father are Haunted by Monsters as if Mads Hutters Forgot to Improve the Sun in 1989 at Ryesgade 106

  • You would think by now that by now people would realise that it is in the social and cultural eyes of the beholder. Power Windows is my favourite Rush album.

  • this song has such a killer vibe to it

  • There are 5 kinds of Rush Fans--prog rock lovers, sci-fi enthusiasts, middle-aged Canadians, sociopaths & lesbians. Someone should turn that into an Internet quiz. WHAT TYPE OF RUSH FAN ARE YOU? LOL

  • @martygwest how about those like me who just appreciate great music and great lyrics...not to mention greatest live band ever...people like u just dont get it

  • @martygwest I guess I fit in with the first two categories huh dick face.

  • @martygwest Will I love prog rock and can stand most music these days.

  • @martygwest I meant to say I can't stand most music these days at the comment I wrote to you a few days ago.

  • THIS VIDEO IS SOOOO 80'S but it still awsome

  • @zackjp Will sure it's SOOOO 80'S but man the 80s FUCKING ROCKED.

  • @Heegoop i know :D

  • I love this song!

  • @Delgift VT sucks from a production standpoint, no question about that, loud compressed sound. Most of the material in the 90s was weak. agree few good songs here & there, but for the most part u could combine the best songs from there last 5-6 records into one record and it would still be far short of anything in the 80s.

  • @Delgift eeeehh.....i dont know about the BEST. moving pictures would give it power windows a run for its money. to me, that was their best in terms of the arrangements of each song and how each song leads into the next. i thought they nailed it with moving pictures

  • Power windows was just dark and fresh with a special mix in the moments of all their playing at this moment in 1985. and the synths were just placed so well and the sounds chosen so well. And the mix is fantastic. I am a pro bassist singer and Pro Tools engineer and just listen back to this record more and more in the mix of all rush records Iown. My definite fav.

  • god i love their synth period. it was so great

  • @emobangs03

Same here... I really miss their synthy stuff... Hold Your Fire was a little too "digital/trigger/dated sounding to me... but Signals (Oberheims and Roland Jupiter), P/G(Jupiters and PPG) and Power Windows(DX-7, EM-U) are some of my favorite records... Damn near perfect records if you ask me. ;)

  • Y'know... Alex Lifeson wasn't too happy with how Geddy was getting all the keyboards involved, and a lot of Rush fans weren't either... but I must say that lately I've been understanding Geddy's musical approach with them in the mid 80's. I'm a bigger fan of the harder, earlier sound of Rush... but this is one of the few synth-filled songs that I actually enjoy. Geddy's vocals and the ambient synths are well arranged.

  • @RickPaniagua dude, alex hated it. he even looks angry in this video

  • It's rumored that Rush beat up Chuck Norris numerous times with prog uppercuts ... Chuck can't listen to this one with the lights off

  • I agree with the sentiment that this is Rush's most "spiritual" song.

For a band with so many questioning/atheistic lyrics, Neil seems to be making a commentary on the wonder of the unknown that resides in all of us when we look up at the stars or otherwise feel drawn "outside" of ourselves.

Personally, I relate to it on multiple levels when strange things happen to me in my life...paranormal stuff...synchronicities...and a spiritual awakening I had when I was 27.

  • Capture my thoughts, carry them away.

  • in my opinion this song is undiscribable

  • This is my favorite Rush song. Almost indescribable to anyone who hasn't heard it before. Really makes me laugh though when you compare this to the crap that passes for music nowadays.

  • @Albinobluenardz Agreed. Especially with the last statement.

  • @Albinobluenardz I love rush myself but that doesn't mean other music is crap just cause you don't like something doesn't mean the guy next to you doesn't. Music is like art in that there is no right or wrong just opinions.

  • @kylerx7 Well, me saying other music is crap is obviously an opinion. I'm not a licensed music critic or anything. When I say crap I am referring to anything by Lady Gaga and that bulletproof song by La Roux. If you like them that's fine I respect that. It is just my opinion that they are crap.

  • @Albinobluenardz u said it...i can give u 50 rush songs...better than anything ever made

  • @Albinobluenardz hear hear sir

  • well said and so true. Critics kept saying music is personal preference and not subjective and progresses as time changes. And this is up for debate and has been hack to death between music listeners and critics. This album was released in 1986 which makes it 24yrs old. If you take 1986 and reverse back 24yrs to 1962, the music is different but it's still "music." I am not sure if today's music is call "music." You'll be surprised to hear what musicologists think about this topic!! Look up.

  • T-101 Vs T-1000

  • mp3.com.au

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! It makes me feel so much awesomeness!!! i want a time machine!!!

  • Far Out!

  • the huge sound effects and percussion work in this tune would be awesome for a top science fiction movie like bladerunner.

  • wow this is probably their darkest and creepiest hit that i recall. it almost doesnt sound like rush in a way that it actually really does sound like rush.

  • I listen to this song with headphones from the vinyl album. The deep rich sounds are amazing! Beats any mp3 version by a long shot.

  • @SRTST51 Yeah it does

  • @SRTST51 i have to agree

  • @SRTST51 Indeed.

  • Mr.LEE ,ALEX & PERT, thanks' 4 all that great music & lyrics......!

  • man i wish my drum set sounded like that.

  • Hope they bring this one back on this year's tour!

  • @mandalay71 Me too!

  • the guitar work on this is so great. Alex is so under rated. its not difficult to play, but to write something like that is just amazing. his knowledge of obscure chords just blows my mind.

  • Absolutely Incredible.

  • it would be sick if rush combined their heavy early music sound with thier late seventies prog sound with this eighties synth sound, and with their metal-ish sound today. it would be one hell of a sound that they yeild.
