  • Did the eggs hatched? by the way how do u tell the difference between male and female and how do u breed them?

  • @won0312 Yep, those are the eggs that hatched. Males of this species have an enlarged sucker on their dorsal arms -- it's hard to tell them apart. All I know about breeding them is that the people I know who have tried were unable to raise the young.

  • God bless you, your octopus, and the baby octopi.

  • I've heard that they die after their eggs hatch in the wild (from starvation)

How well do they fair through egg hatching in captivity?

  • I don't know what normally happens in captivity, but this momma octopus was still alive as of Feb 19, so almost three weeks after the hatch so far. I'll try to let you know what happens.

  • Thank you

    I'm looking forward to it

  • That octopus is still alive as of March 15 -- and so are a bunch of the babies.

  • We've had one live more than six months after her eggs hatched. They do stop hunting after caring for the eggs, but apparently if you give them the food they will eat it.

  • The octopus is still alive as of April 4. It is feeding.

  • is it stil alive?? i hope so

  • I should be able to find out tomorrow. Stay tuned...

  • As of June 3rd the octopus is still alive!

  • The octopus died this week -- around June 9. She was feeding on crabs though.

  • sorry - too bad
