The Taiwanese have been in Taiwan since the 1600s under the Qing Dynasty way before the KMT party started by Sun-Yat Sen. In fact, Before the KMT was even formed in China, the Qing Dynasty handed over Taiwan to Japan for 50 years, hence the Japanese influence and why Taiwanese like Japanese. My grandfather was born in Taihoku (Taipei) Prefecture in the Empire of Japan.

I've heard about the history of Taiwan led by Sun-Yat-Sen, my dad introduced me to that story, but I never heard anything about Japan controlling it at some point. What I recall from some texts were that Japan had more interest in Korea, so they controlled Korea for a long period. Thus the deep relation between Japan and Korea.

Teochew spelling for people smth like "Nang" or "Nung" or what ever u pronounce it. Fuzhou is "nun" . we speak those dialects for more than 3 generation without writing system, we basically inherit our parents tongue. Perhaps u are using those English type of pronounciation, where when they read " lang" it become "leng". by the way i can write in pinyin, what about you?
