The three life support songs make me cry every time I hear them. This song is so true and it reveals so much of what the characters are going through. It is truly beautiful.
will i lose my dignity will someone care?the world is getting so crazy thats the question .will anyone ever care? does someone care?if not, when can we wake from this night mare?
As it stands, as of recent events, I think to an extent this song goes very very well with what is happening in Prop 8. At least that is my feeling for it. I mean, really. I feel like I'm in a nightmare and that everyone is hating what I am because of who I love...
Oh god, this song is so beautiful, as is all of the story and songs in Rent. This song has the power to make the toughest of people cry and almost anyone can relate. Even though the story and song is based on AIDS, this reminds me of my struggle with anorexia. Anyone with struggle can relate to this simple but powerful song.
I have only ever seen the movie (the only stage production in New Zealand was a local operatic society version I didn't know about until it had finished). The scenes in the support group were far and away my favourite, it felt much more real than having a bunch of people who were in their 30's playing characters who were in the early 20's (keeping the orginal Broadway cast only works if you do it before they are too old for their roles)
wow small world i have lupus myself, got diagnosed when i was 12. it would have been nice to have talked to others in a group like this when I had first gotten it. I definitely cried when Angel died because he was so alive and had so much to live for. He faced everything with a smile on his face and it makes it unbearable that people with such a strong personality have to be defeated.
wow, yeah i read a little bit about that one. does it have remission periods at all? My SLE is in remission, but I get flareups every once in awhile which makes things like moving really hard. I don't think I could last a week without plaquenil and naproxen.
*sigh* this is the saddest song of the movie. I've only seen it once but it just makes a strong impact on your outlook on everything in life. I love the message and everything bout this movie and song.
The beautiful thing about this is that although Angel is the one with the disease, he helps everyone in the movie overcome obstacles, barriers, or become closer to each other. He brings the friends together and makes them into a family, which is why he is such a great character
I cry evertime I see this movie. Thank God they made this movie! This is just one of those films that touches your heart, and if it doesn't you've got some thinking to do.
thats exactly what i think my brother is an inmature asshole he says that i'm gay because i watch a movie about tansexuals aids hiv gays and lesbians i hate my brother honestly he doesn't get it at ALL
Ya know, I showed this movie to my Mother, and she absoloutley hates gays, and lesbians. And in all honesty, I am a woman and I would rather be with a woman, but I am bisexual. Honestly, I really don't understand how people think these days.
And watching this movie does not make anyone gay, it makes you a sensitive and caring person.
This is probably my favorite Rent song even though it's like the shortet. I cry every time I hear it, even if I just sing it in my head I get a little teary-eyed. : (
I think my favorite part of this song is how well written it is. I love the fact that Mark sings by himself--I think there's a lot of symbolism in it. I love Anthony Rapp.
I love Rent, and while I love the movie I like the stage play alot better, excepting maybe the way they did this song. I love how Roger finally seeks community to help cope with the disease...plus Adam's voice is so great, adds that rougher rock sound.
But to all those who keep liking the harmonies...they aren't harmonizing. Its a round. Everyone is singing melody.
If you get a chance to see the play, do it! Adam and Anthony are joining the tour cast in Jan!!!! I am totally there!!
you know what i loved about angel, is that from the get go of the movie, he recognizes that he needs help from others to get over his disease. I love that, he isn't proud or stubborn, I think that's why they all loved him so much and why when people watch this they feel so closely to him
the guy who wrote this actually went with one of his friends to a life suport meeting and when they were oging arround asking what they were worried about know that they knew they had AIDS snd someone actualy said im not afraid but "will i loose my dignity? will some one care?" and he went home and wrote this song for rent its really sweet and sad :']
The girl with the little solo has an amazing voice! My drama teacher wants to do this for our school play and I hope our prudey little school says yes!
in response to rosi3333 im pretty sure its like an extra voice thats in it. none of the girls in this scene are singing that party. u can like see that when that part is being held out none of thier mouths match that.
its a bummer because i hoped it was the black girl too.
I have to say this is one of my more favorites from the film though I only just found out that Rodger sings separately from the first four from seeing oxBetch and then watching the video as I thought he just joined in with Collins, Angel and the other two
this is one of the best movies i have ever seen. i always cry when i hear this song because these people are living with a horrible condition and are making the best of it.
Roger has HIV, and his ex killed herself when she found out they both had it. Angel, Collins and Mimi (not in this scene) also have HIV (with Angel, it develops into AIDS, which she dies from). I think the reason Angel takes her wig off is something to do with opening up and being himself in the group. It might be imagery to show her extreme inner vunerability.
this song is so raw. it is a very good song. It doesnt really have to mean someone dying of AIDS or HIV just cancer or a disease in general. To me it is about someone not wanting to lose who they are throughout their ever going battle. I seriously balled durring this song
