brian clough talks crap, looked up to don revie and always wiil do,revie talked his mind, not wot the media wanted to hear which is what cloughie always did,he always wanted to be revie but never was!!!!
Always wanted to revvie! he wanted to take what revvie had an beat what he had! Clough is the best manager england has ever produced! an the only manager like him in the world today is mourinho! But clough had it alot tougher as he had to train players an that himself
@sparx83 you tell me one thing Clough achieved with out Peter Taylor. apart from sending the best team in the country on an awful run, and going to Brighton and spending a year unnoticed. it seems to me he is one of the worst and Peter Taylor was one of the best.
@willlufc peter taylor did nothing on his own either and clough recked the team moral at leeds thats why he was poor there the players hated him.so together they were great what taylor did was help clough by telling him what players they could trust and giving him support.
@willlufc they were a double act they needed each other had taylor been at leeds it would have worked out better the players would have told peter there problems ect.
@willlufc taylor had a few jobs on his own and failed clough was the genoius manager who needed help, support and ideas and someone to keep his ego in check taylor was that man.it was taylors idea to sign dave mackay for derby
The games a higher level of fitness.... but thats it... when it comes to naturall footballing skill and inteleigence, the 60's 70's and 80's starts piss all over todays players, theres only a few players that could have matched it back in the 'glory days' But Cryuff, pele, maradona, puskas, beckenbaur, and all the great players who played for the 70's liverpool, leeds and Manu .. and 60s spurs/ManCity, the 50s RealMadrid/Barca. All legends.
don't talk shite , players ov today are just as skillfull and good as players then , its wrong to compare , people will say the same shit in thirty years when pro players are super human and can play into their 40's and have houses on the moon with ferrari moon buggys, its the evolution ov the game , there are some wonderful players today as there was then
70's saw the best of football, it wasnt anti football or thuggish, they were reall men playing a real contact sport. yes it was tough, but also brilliant at the same time, hardley any pass or any shot ever was off .. glory days of football, 60'70 and 80's .. today is shit compared to the standards today, if players of then had teh fitness of todays players, they would slaughter teams of today, id love to see Cryuff or Georgoe best in this era, and piss all over the shit stars or today.
dem1991boy5 - You're right George Best would make even Cristiano Ronaldo look second rate. His fitness would have had to improve to get in the team. He was the best footballer I've ever seen. Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff & Platini were also excellent, but Bestie was best. Also Leeds didn't realise what they missed letting Cloughie go. They were a very good team but most at the end of their careers. I'm a Forest fan so I'm glad they didn't see his potential & also Peter Taylor
deathcab2908 - Well he brought us 2 European cups, back to back. What I was stating was that many of the Leeds team weretowards the end of their playing careers & Cloughie wwas capable of building a new team. The Revie team weren't just "cloggers", they really could play too, which is contrary to most opinion. They were a hard tackling side though, but that was allowed back then. Not many got past their defence, but the sublime skills of Allan Clarke & Johnny Giles was obvious
dem1991boy5 - I don't want to wish my life away but I wish I could have also witnessed Duncan Edwards play. Sir Bobby Charlton reckons he's the best player he's ever played with or against, which surely speaks volumes. He's not the only one either. Many ex-players reckon he'd have been captain of England in 1962 & 1966. The great Bobby Moore shouldn't be underestimated though - he let very few passes go astray
To knaaan163's stupid comment: "i'd rather them be a dirty team than a team of diving bastards" 'dirty' leeds were the first british side to dive. As well as kicking opponents they conned the ref into giving them free kicks. This is a well known fact.
The tag dirty leeds is a poor one and doesn't truly reflect the reality - yes they could mix it but they could play football and at times breath taking football.
The current team is a very poor shadow of the one in the 70's and the early ninties. Beckford wouldn't have got on the bench.
Very sad to see such a once illustrious team so down. Things can change though my team used to be called boring Arsenal nowt boring about them these days and Leeds will come again.
KevD08 - not better but faster. They weren't playing on a bowling green surface with a balloon then though. If you went to the Baseball ground in winter it was a quagmire with a medicine ball. The Leeds team of the early 70's could really play very, very well. Giles, Bremner, Hunter, Clarke, Reaney, Jones, Cooper, Sprake, Lorimer, Charlton etc were all very good. Todays lot wouldn't last the full game as they'd be injured against a Hunter tackle.
Kicking people of the ball isn't a skill. Hunter would be too slow to catch a modern day footballer. The leeds team were a team of drunks. Modern day footballers are athletes.
KevD08 - yes but could play too. Hunter nowadays would be faster because he would have to be to be in the team. He, Ron Harris, Nobby Stiles & a certain Liverpool defender were brilliant & would have been today. I think you're forgetting that time would move these players on too
Basically players who drank and smoked on a daily basis who played in an era when you were allowed to kick your oponnents of the ball are better than todays athletic technically gifted players?
KevD08 - Well no, Im sayng that those players would have moved on with time & wouldn't do those things. Well couldn't because they wouldn't get in the team. It doesn't mean they weren't skilful though. They were allowed to tackle then not like the mirror carrying lot of today
KevD08 - they're also playing on a bowling green surface with a balloon. If you ever went to the Baseball Ground in Derby in the winter & played with a medicine ball you'd understand what a different game it was & is. It's much more entertaining now as it's faster because of this, but you can't state that the Leeds team of the early 70's couldn't play - they could. I'm a Forest fan & a Clough fan so I have nothing to gain by commenting like this.
Athletes kev lol...let them ride the tour de france then! todays football players are overpaid thugs nothings changed' if Clough was about beckham would not be selling after shave.
The moneys better going to the footballers rather than the fat cats upstair however it's not fair that the fans have to fit the bill. The tactics of a lot of teams in the 70s were thuggish and anti football.

Leeds don't deserve to be judged on their style of play 30 years ago. They don't deserve to be down in League 1. There are too many crap over-achieving clubs at the moment. And I'm not a Leeds fan.
To semiquaver, as Clough said before he died, "Fergie hasn't got 2 of what I have, and I'm not talking about balls." No other British managers have matched what he achieved in Europe i.e. back to back European champions titles.
Great point GoldyLUFC. If any of the Sky 4 dropped out of the top flight you'd see the fair weather fans desert them.

also how the fuck can you call anyone thick when you say we are a shit small club when you admit yourself fulham are a shit small club, how clever are you?
TwelveInch, I doubt you have done your research either. Revie's Leeds were known to play hard but their style of football was also considered to be the most attractive of its time.
Search for Leeds United 7-0 Southhampton if you don't believe me.
Brian Clough was once engaged to my great Aunt. I live on the same road....VALLEY ROAD... in Middlesbrough, the road Brian Clough was born on, every time I go past his former house, I look up at the plaque that says 'Brian Clough' lived here.
Mike, For our tiny squad to beat Man United there has to be a slight dip in form for them because let's face it they are hundred millions pounds worth of talent compared to our tiny squad. Though we did play extremely well against them and frustrated them. Also the way in which Man Utd. acted on the pitch they deserved to lose, diving, cheating, abuse towards the referee. They are no role model for our young generation of supporters. They are a disgrace.
As a Man U supporter since 1966 I agree with yr comments ..diving,throwing the ball.dissent to the ref. Not just Man U. All high profile players should be role models but so many are not. Spoilt and overpaid. Maybe this country shoud have a look how American Football distributes its wealth? It surprised me
I agree fully, dont get me wrong i was delighted for Fulham. Any opportunity to watch man utd suffer is brilliant, i just dont like how Leeds are the only team that take flak for the way they play/ed. As you rightly pointed out man utd are just as bad, as other premiership clubs and in scotland Ranger players are just as bad
Haha Cheers mate, I'm not bragging just interested in some background information about the whole Clough and Leeds situation since I want to go and watch the Damned United as it is meant to be a real good film. The Man United game just popped up in an argument with that thicko Goldy. Good luck for the rest of the season.
Goldy, I know we are a small club, but what makes me laugh is that Leeds fans still think they are a big club. Face the facts..YOUR NOT. As for piss poor, beaten Man Utd. this weekend and aiming for Europe which is more than I can say for aiming to be in the League two play offs.
Im not a Leeds fan but lets face it. Beating Man Utd has as much to do with there slump in performace as it is talent. With players like Bobby Zamora in your squad you european adventure would be shortlived indeed
m not a Leeds fan but lets face it. Beating Man Utd has as much to do with there slump in performace as it is talent. With players like Bobby Zamora in your squad you european adventure would be shortlived indeed
lol, you beat man u at weekend, is that all you really can say about your pathetic little club, and lets face facts attendance this season, our highest is 34 thousand, your shitty little shit stain cant even hold that many
Wow you really can't face it that you are not a big club anymore, no need to cry about it. Haven't I already said I know we are a small club, you aren't the smatest person are you?
leeds are a big club in terms of support yes, current league status etc no but still a big club in terms of fan base. i can actually take it otherwise i wouldnt be on here with LUFC in my name, or watching every week, or say im still proud to be a leeds fan as i know many clubs wouldnt have half the following had their situation been like ours, chelsea, man u, arsenal but to name a few
and Fulham are massive like?! when was the last time they won a major trophy? (major doesn't include championship, league 1 or league 2 titles) when did you last come close? its good to see Fulham are as popular as ever. you've filled your cottage a couple of times this year, (25,000 - just below Leeds' average attendance last year in League 1) ha not big, you t*t
hmmm i love his comment on "players ran the referees, revie perfected appealing" is that not scum utd? players rounding the refs and ferguson with his appealing and watch pointing. does anyone say anything? no, too fucking gutless, and you can add diving to their list of cheats aswell
What a prat U are - obviously U never saw Eddie Gray play - George Best was a good player but I dont say he is crap because I dont like Man U - Good Players R good no Matter who they play 4
I have no time to trade insults with you,but 1 question. Did i mention eddie gray? Did i mention any player in particular? NO. If you knew your stuff you would know that the Leeds team of the time were notoriously dirty. Personally,i have nothing against leeds, its a shame to see where they are now. Also, for your information, Best wasnt a good player,he was possibly the greatest ever,so without being disrespectful to eddie gray, comparing him to best is like comparing a lada to a ferrari.
best player ever? far from it, i could name 20 that not only were/are better but achieved much more, standard of football back then was hardly the level it was today
yeah, like last weekend, or the weekend before, ha, im a leeds fan, but im right behind Liverpool this year too!!! (to confirm, im not keen on Liverpool either - the lesser of 2 evils!!)
seriously if i was you with fulham in the name i wouldnt talk about any other club being small, id rather be in our position than being a piss poor premier league team happy with surviving relegation battles
i hate the damned united already. Its just a fictional piece making leeds look bad.Its trendy to hate leeds nowadays. I think its pretty unfair on the likes of revie and bremner who arent alive today to defend themselves. Clough was a good manager at derby and forest because he started from scratch. leeds were already the best team in europe and he came in with the wrong attitude.Yes clough won several european cups but so would leeds had they had the rub of then green.Blatantly cheated out of EC
Leeds Utd? Aren't they some small Third Division or League Two club or whatever loser name you want to give it. Tough match against Scunthorpe next week?
LOL yeah good point, i love the fact how people hate leeds so much, no real reason just "oh you were dirty bastards in the 70s" so being too hard is bad, what about being too soft, diving around like theres a sniper in the crowd eg ronaldo at scum utd
know what you mean, we still carry the "dirty Leeds" tag, i don't mind it, (legends like Smith Beckford Jones and Batty fit the tag brilliantly, thats why leeds love these players) !, but Man United throw themselves about so easily, and have the ref round there finger, im not saying there a bad team, but why do they need to do it with all that class!, refs are all for Man Utd,
We were despised by fans from other clubs because we were more successful, and had come from nowhere. Man U and Liverpool and co thought - think - they have a divine right. We spoilt their little club. And the truth is, Revie's Leeds were no more or less dirty than the other top clubs at the time. Chopper Harris wasn't called that because he owned a helicopter....
Shankly dragged LFC from division 2 in the 60s, they were hardly in any little club. And most successful? For major trophies won during the Revie era (I'm not including Inter City Faires because it was an unfair weak minor cup whilst it still had the 1 club per city rule) Liverpool won the most with 5, then Leeds and United both joint with 4 (United had the European Cup), followed by Everton 3 and Arsenal 2.
Leeds were disliked for their kick em now play football later style.
On the clip where it shows Revie, Cooper, Bremner at al surrounding the referee it was because of one of the most controversial refereeing decisions in the 1970's, it cost Leeds the title, and we were robbed, Leeds vs West Brom, '71. Clough was the wrong man to succeed Revie. The appointment of Clough after Revie set United on the slide until our relegation in 1982.
But by that time the Leeds team had reached its peak and needed to be broken up. That was partly why Revie left. He couldn't bear to do it. When it came to the crunch, the board backed the players and not the manager. If Clough had been given the time to rebuild the team, who knows.
Respect to poster - A true fact-If we've had stayed "in house" Re- Bremner or Giles as boss we would have maintained a bigger and greater name in world soccer than Scum and Cesspool-in short we had dummys for a board
bremner & giles would have done what? how do you back that up. they both did fuck all after their playing careers. fell away while clough strode on. clough may have been an arse and was the wrong choice for leeds but the rot started when revie left an aging squad with no future. bless him for all he did but revie left no legacy
Leeds would never have reached the fame of Man United and Liverpool....quite simply because they were hated because of everything they stood for.Clough tried to change thyat but was never given time....you can polish shit so it shines....but it still stinks!!!
Oh yeah, and *everyone* loves Man U? Keane & Hughes were dirty sods, Ferguson bullies refs, and Cantona was a genius who was always in bother. I'm not saying Leeds were angels, but if you win enough stuff, then a lot of fans stop caring about the negatives, and Man U are proof.
Think there was more than 1 occasion when Leeds players surrounded the ref though! They weren't called dirty Leeds for nothing back then and were despised by most fans. Aurelian147 is right - that team had reached it's peak - that's why Revie left. Same thing happened to Busby's Utd and Liverpool of late 80s early 90s.
Times were tougher then. And consequently so were the people.

m not a Leeds fan but lets face it. Beating Man Utd has as much to do with there slump in performace as it is talent. With players like Bobby Zamora in your squad you european adventure would be shortlived indeed
Mikecd86 2 years ago
lol, you beat man u at weekend, is that all you really can say about your pathetic little club, and lets face facts attendance this season, our highest is 34 thousand, your shitty little shit stain cant even hold that many
GoldyLUFC 2 years ago
Wow you really can't face it that you are not a big club anymore, no need to cry about it. Haven't I already said I know we are a small club, you aren't the smatest person are you?
FulhamsFinest1 2 years ago
leeds are a big club in terms of support yes, current league status etc no but still a big club in terms of fan base. i can actually take it otherwise i wouldnt be on here with LUFC in my name, or watching every week, or say im still proud to be a leeds fan as i know many clubs wouldnt have half the following had their situation been like ours, chelsea, man u, arsenal but to name a few
GoldyLUFC 2 years ago
and Fulham are massive like?! when was the last time they won a major trophy? (major doesn't include championship, league 1 or league 2 titles) when did you last come close? its good to see Fulham are as popular as ever. you've filled your cottage a couple of times this year, (25,000 - just below Leeds' average attendance last year in League 1) ha not big, you t*t
Hughesey1985 2 years ago
Wow you lot are thick. I HAVE ALREADY SAID WE ARE A SMALL CLUB YOU THICKO
FulhamsFinest1 2 years ago
hmmm i love his comment on "players ran the referees, revie perfected appealing" is that not scum utd? players rounding the refs and ferguson with his appealing and watch pointing. does anyone say anything? no, too fucking gutless, and you can add diving to their list of cheats aswell
GoldyLUFC 2 years ago
1 MAJOR difference between revies leeds and Man United. That is Man U actually play FOOTBALL. Attractive world class football when they are on song.
TwelveInchDick 2 years ago
What a prat U are - obviously U never saw Eddie Gray play - George Best was a good player but I dont say he is crap because I dont like Man U - Good Players R good no Matter who they play 4
Johnyc321 2 years ago
I have no time to trade insults with you,but 1 question. Did i mention eddie gray? Did i mention any player in particular? NO. If you knew your stuff you would know that the Leeds team of the time were notoriously dirty. Personally,i have nothing against leeds, its a shame to see where they are now. Also, for your information, Best wasnt a good player,he was possibly the greatest ever,so without being disrespectful to eddie gray, comparing him to best is like comparing a lada to a ferrari.

Fucking hell mate, you are short aren't you? At least you are self aware though.

I'm no fan of Leeds, far from it mate, but under Revie, Leeds played some of the best football in this country to date, whether we like it, or not.
pompydave 2 years ago
best player ever? far from it, i could name 20 that not only were/are better but achieved much more, standard of football back then was hardly the level it was today
GoldyLUFC 2 years ago
yeah, like last weekend, or the weekend before, ha, im a leeds fan, but im right behind Liverpool this year too!!! (to confirm, im not keen on Liverpool either - the lesser of 2 evils!!)
Hughesey1985 2 years ago
Leeds are a small club these days and will never be a big club ever again.
FulhamsFinest1 2 years ago
seriously if i was you with fulham in the name i wouldnt talk about any other club being small, id rather be in our position than being a piss poor premier league team happy with surviving relegation battles

when was the last time a film included Fulham?! (other than them being battered by someone like Darlington)

i hate the damned united already. Its just a fictional piece making leeds look bad.Its trendy to hate leeds nowadays. I think its pretty unfair on the likes of revie and bremner who arent alive today to defend themselves. Clough was a good manager at derby and forest because he started from scratch. leeds were already the best team in europe and he came in with the wrong attitude.Yes clough won several european cups but so would leeds had they had the rub of then green.Blatantly cheated out of EC

brian clough, what an idiot, if he didnt like us, why did he become manager??
leeds1leeds1leeds 2 years ago
Leeds Utd? Aren't they some small Third Division or League Two club or whatever loser name you want to give it. Tough match against Scunthorpe next week?
Martinasdress 2 years ago
Already beat them twice so no, how is it underneath that rock of yours?
joshbaker92 2 years ago
Scunthorpe?? no but it was a breeze against MK Dons. haha toss*r!!
Hughesey1985 2 years ago 2
Shut up you are just embarrassing yourself
FulhamsFinest1 2 years ago
ha, and its typical, you give leeds stick about not being big but your going to see the film, enjoy it!!!
Hughesey1985 2 years ago
LOL yeah good point, i love the fact how people hate leeds so much, no real reason just "oh you were dirty bastards in the 70s" so being too hard is bad, what about being too soft, diving around like theres a sniper in the crowd eg ronaldo at scum utd
GoldyLUFC 2 years ago 2
know what you mean, we still carry the "dirty Leeds" tag, i don't mind it, (legends like Smith Beckford Jones and Batty fit the tag brilliantly, thats why leeds love these players) !, but Man United throw themselves about so easily, and have the ref round there finger, im not saying there a bad team, but why do they need to do it with all that class!, refs are all for Man Utd,

Love him or hate him for what he did on the pitch, Brian Clough was a genuinely brilliant man. Can't wait to watch The Damned United.

They had suprememly skilful players, but they were cheats and con men.

The appointment of Clough after Revie set United on the slide until our relegation in 1982.
leedsunitedrhino 3 years ago
But by that time the Leeds team had reached its peak and needed to be broken up. That was partly why Revie left. He couldn't bear to do it. When it came to the crunch, the board backed the players and not the manager. If Clough had been given the time to rebuild the team, who knows.
Aurelian147 3 years ago
Respect to poster - A true fact-If we've had stayed "in house" Re- Bremner or Giles as boss we would have maintained a bigger and greater name in world soccer than Scum and Cesspool-in short we had dummys for a board
steakandsid 3 years ago
bremner & giles would have done what? how do you back that up. they both did fuck all after their playing careers. fell away while clough strode on. clough may have been an arse and was the wrong choice for leeds but the rot started when revie left an aging squad with no future. bless him for all he did but revie left no legacy
moley8791 3 years ago
Leeds would never have reached the fame of Man United and Liverpool....quite simply because they were hated because of everything they stood for.Clough tried to change thyat but was never given time....you can polish shit so it shines....but it still stinks!!!
crystaltipps04 3 years ago
Oh yeah, and *everyone* loves Man U? Keane & Hughes were dirty sods, Ferguson bullies refs, and Cantona was a genius who was always in bother. I'm not saying Leeds were angels, but if you win enough stuff, then a lot of fans stop caring about the negatives, and Man U are proof.
Long23 2 years ago
Think there was more than 1 occasion when Leeds players surrounded the ref though! They weren't called dirty Leeds for nothing back then and were despised by most fans. Aurelian147 is right - that team had reached it's peak - that's why Revie left. Same thing happened to Busby's Utd and Liverpool of late 80s early 90s.
rdw1970 3 years ago
Revie left to take the England job, but you are right in saying Revie's Leeds had reached their peak.
