@Spywell Well said. It is marketing. In fact, there was a test done in Chicago, the F150, Ram 1500, GM 1/2 Tons, and the Tundra can actually all tow over 12,000 standard lbs on a real trip. They just can't do it day in and day out. That's a LOT of stress on a machine. HD's are a different story though. Go nuts, the frames and suspensions can handle it all day.
@PowerLiftingMenace It's not the engine that hinders the new Ram, it's not even the transmission or the brakes. It's the Suspension. Engines only don't make towing, a full package does. Chrysler focused more on comfort and livability vs. all out numbers. The suspention balance of the F150 is what gives it the towing capability. But I would not want to tow 11K with ANY of those half ton trucks. Get an HD. 1/2 tons are rated for it but with how much security? Not that much.

Strange thing is that those are new Silverados and they too have fully boxed frames. So the point is moot. A properly equipped Silverado can tow 10,700lbs so an extra 300lbs is nothing.
Thats what I did with my truck. Instead of towing it though. I had weight in the bed of it. 25 boxes filled with paper. Each box weighing in at 50 lbs. You do the math. The truck had Off-Road Suspension. Going over bumps felt like a damn Lincoln Town Car LOL
The new Tundra has had a lot of recalls and is like Apple computers, all for show, not function. It is geared high and only powerful at high RPMs. They also classify in a class lower than it belongs so they can boast power.
If you are racing get a tundra, if you are towing or working, or anything practical, get a Ford.
Dodge's Hemi is OK, but mounted poorly with only a 2 bolt main. Dodge's quality is horrible. The Ram is VERY cheaply made.

Again about the ASE thing. One topic that came to the attention of the ASE was how the f150's towing and payload capacity increased by over 1,000 lbs. from 2004-2007 just with the addition of beefier leaf springs, and no frame or engine changes.
Here are the facts! The chevy does a fully boxed frame, up to the rear spare tire carrier. Then, it goes to c-channel. The ford's is boxed from front to rear. BUT...the f150's frame is hydroformed only in the front. The chevy's is hydrofromed throughout the entire frame, and it has been proven that the silverado's frame is a million times stronger than the f150's.
Funny, how they showed the silverado but it has a fully boxed frame as well. and truckchamp is right, u have to get the 2wd, 2 door f150 with every towing option, and only 1 person in the truck to tow 11,000. the silverado is the only half ton that can tow 10,500 lbs, with a crew cab 4x4. F-150 crew cab 4x4- tows barly 9,000 lbs and same with the tundra.

if u actually do some reading you will find out that chevy does have a full boxed frame. they have paragraph's about it in their brochure.And if you do some more reading you will find out that ford can only tow 9,100 pounds in a crew cab. on their website it says Crew Cab 4x4- tows 9,100 and payload of 1,800. chevy same model 10,500 and 2010 payload. just cuz u have a ford doesnt mean its the best thing out there and u can make up the stats!

Sorry, I should have read farther into the specs. Chevy's isn't fully boxed according to the Silverado home page though... Ford's is only HF in the front thanks for the correction!! But I still think apples to apples tests are better.
The new GMT900 silverado frame is fully boxed. My mom has an 07 suburban with the same exact frame. It is fully boxed and fully hydroformed up until the rear spare tire carrier. THEN, it becomes C-channel. The F150's frame is fully boxed from front to rear, I think, but because only the front of it is hydroformed and the rest is welded, it is no where near as strong as the new silverado frame, which again, is fully hydroformed, and everyone knows hydroforming is far stronger than welding.
I was just conveying what the Silverado's web page says- a three section frame with hydroformed front and rear sections. Chevy's frame still isn't as rugged as Ford's 2 section frame because Ford's crossmembers are tubular through-frame units.
This is what the GM guy told me. Frame stress tests were done to prove the durability of the frame. First, they put a ford f150 in between two rails. Then they put a certain amount of weight, squeazing the frame until something happens. The ford was completely destroyed with the frame twisted and the windows were all shattered, and the doors blown off. The silverado just had its bed shift about 1/4 in. with the same weight.

According to Chevrolet's specs on the 1/2 ton only the front section is fully boxed and hydroformed... The problem with all advertising is that it isn't apples to apples. We'd probably find out that all the trucks are pretty much the same for cargo and towing.

Ford claimed a 15,000 lb. hitch towing capacity with the 06 and 07 f350, yet it barely pulled 12,000 lbs. when edmunds tested it and the chevy was the only one with more power to make it up the hill. Now, ford is saying 12,500 lbs. for hitch towing and chevy has 13,000 lbs. in that category.
Was the F-350 a Single Cab, Short Bed, Dual Rear-wheel with a 4.10 Axle ratio, the 6.0 Powerstroke diesel, and Ford's Torqshift Transmission in it? I doubt it. All those together = 15,000 or whatever the claim was then. Now, you obviously have to subtract the weight of the driver as well as anything else you have in the vehicle. Same goes with any truck. So unless Edmunds met those criteria (which I am confident that they did not), the test doesn't prove anything.

Second this F150 commercial came out RIGHT after the Tundra came out. A week before the F150 was rated 9800.

Thats what I did with my truck. Instead of towing it though. I had weight in the bed of it. 25 boxes filled with paper. Each box weighing in at 50 lbs. You do the math. The truck had Off-Road Suspension. Going over bumps felt like a damn Lincoln Town Car LOL

The new Tundra has had a lot of recalls and is like Apple computers, all for show, not function. It is geared high and only powerful at high RPMs. They also classify in a class lower than it belongs so they can boast power.
If you are racing get a tundra, if you are towing or working, or anything practical, get a Ford.
Dodge's Hemi is OK, but mounted poorly with only a 2 bolt main. Dodge's quality is horrible. The Ram is VERY cheaply made.

Here are the facts! The chevy does a fully boxed frame, up to the rear spare tire carrier. Then, it goes to c-channel. The ford's is boxed from front to rear. BUT...the f150's frame is hydroformed only in the front. The chevy's is hydrofromed throughout the entire frame, and it has been proven that the silverado's frame is a million times stronger than the f150's.

if u actually do some reading you will find out that chevy does have a full boxed frame. they have paragraph's about it in their brochure.And if you do some more reading you will find out that ford can only tow 9,100 pounds in a crew cab. on their website it says Crew Cab 4x4- tows 9,100 and payload of 1,800. chevy same model 10,500 and 2010 payload. just cuz u have a ford doesnt mean its the best thing out there and u can make up the stats!

The new GMT900 silverado frame is fully boxed. My mom has an 07 suburban with the same exact frame. It is fully boxed and fully hydroformed up until the rear spare tire carrier. THEN, it becomes C-channel. The F150's frame is fully boxed from front to rear, I think, but because only the front of it is hydroformed and the rest is welded, it is no where near as strong as the new silverado frame, which again, is fully hydroformed, and everyone knows hydroforming is far stronger than welding.

I was just conveying what the Silverado's web page says- a three section frame with hydroformed front and rear sections. Chevy's frame still isn't as rugged as Ford's 2 section frame because Ford's crossmembers are tubular through-frame units.

This is what the GM guy told me. Frame stress tests were done to prove the durability of the frame. First, they put a ford f150 in between two rails. Then they put a certain amount of weight, squeazing the frame until something happens. The ford was completely destroyed with the frame twisted and the windows were all shattered, and the doors blown off. The silverado just had its bed shift about 1/4 in. with the same weight.

According to Chevrolet's specs on the 1/2 ton only the front section is fully boxed and hydroformed... The problem with all advertising is that it isn't apples to apples. Chevrolet's Half-ton two wheel drive with the small engine IS only rated to tow half of what the Ford with the big engine is rated to tow. We'd probably find out that all the trucks are pretty much the same for cargo and towing.

It isn't that simple. If what they were advertising was false then they could be sued for false advertising and easily end up losing the case.

I'm sorry to tell you but GM already beats ford in the Heavy Duty category as it has done in the past. Ford claimed a 15,000 lb. hitch towing capacity with the 06 and 07 f350, yet it barely pulled 12,000 lbs. when edmunds tested it and the chevy was the only one with more power to make it up the hill. Now, ford is saying 12,500 lbs. for hitch towing and chevy has 13,000 lbs. in that category.

Was the F-350 a Single Cab, Short Bed, Dual Rear-wheel with a 4.10 Axle ratio, the 6.0 Powerstroke diesel, and Ford's Torqshift Transmission in it? I doubt it. All those together = 15,000 or whatever the claim was then. Now, you obviously have to subtract the weight of the driver as well as anything else you have in the vehicle. Same goes with any truck. So unless Edmunds met those criteria (which I am confident that they did not), the test doesn't prove anything.

Yes, the only reason that I came to youtube to watch the commercial is because Mike Rowe is in it and I would watch paint dry if Mike Rowe was in front of it..

Yes I know it's a commercial, but that commercial is false advertising because both of those silverados have fully boxed frames.
