The best thing you can do to reduce episodes is change their diet, no scraps and avoid high protein dog food, as it is more likely to set off seizures. We buy a specific vegetable mix that uses low protein lamb, I forget what its called but Toby went from a couple episodes a week to maybe once a month.
I have an eight year old border terrier, the disease in border terriers is quite common and has been around since the 70's, my dog, Toby has been displaying signs of it for about two years and it seems to get progressively worse, after doing the research into it, the dog also undergoes extreme intestinal pain, which is the stage my dog is at, once your dog reaches there he will seem more self-aware of what is going on, and sometimes even whine in pain.
okay..so my dog, lanie, did this tonight..and its been going on for about 30 minutes. she is a mixed breed..not sure of what..but she is only 5 pounds..this is NOT cool. what can i do?!
My Jack Russell has very similar symptoms but from what I've found it's mainly seen in Border Terriers, any thoughts? He has had 2 episodes in the past 3 months and they seem to come after he gets really excited or exhausted from exercising. He will arch his back so much that his hind legs come up in the air and then tends to loose his balance and walk like he's dizzy or "drunk". They last about 1-2 minutes.
thanks for posting. our luke, a lab, had his first episode last month. if it weren't for videos like yours i wouldn't have known what it was. it's a little less scary knowing others are experiencing this...
