Chinese medicine is thousands of years old and doesn't need clinical trials to achieve efficiency. TCM addresses the individual and does not generalize like western medicine. These poor lab techs need to sit down with the people who use TCM to effectively treat and cure asthma, is really what they should be spending their time and money doing if they really want to help the asthmatics in the "rich" countries. Asthma isn't a lifelong, incurable disease in China and many other parts of the world.

Instead of wasting their time (as they have already-poor mice!) and will in trying to "figure" out what "herbal property" blocks asthma they should realize the reason they are stuck with the issue in the first place is because their science doesn't work. The methods of the eastern/Chinese medicine is proven to cure asthma. Eastern medicine is nothing like western medicine, so sourcing a herbal element is pointless and will get them nowhere. Chinese medicine is thorough and uses no miracle drug.
