@FenrirLupus In general, you can copy circuits and get the same end result -- if you can find power and output transformers, particularly output transformers, that are similar in performance. Don't call boutique amp builders overpriced until you've built an amp :-) Punching and drilling a custom metal chassis and having the result not look home-made is a lot of work, not to mention building a cabinet. Wiring up the circuit is the easy part.
The amount of tone and response from these old Fender combos is really unbelievable; Leo got it right the first time, after endless reinvention of the wheel everyone seems to have returned to the original idea.
Such delicious tone. Through my laptop speakers, it sounds like the high-end attack is more tame and the highs are richer and smoother... due to the 15" speaker..? Did you get a chance to compare the D130F and the P15N? I'm trying to decide between those two.
Yeah man, that's just guitar into amp... everything controlled with the volume on the guitar and picking dynamics. Looking back, that's probably the best recorded sound I've ever had, haha. The sad thing is that they aren't making anymore of these amps (obviously). Wish I still had it.
Is this the 5D5 circuit? I'm no pro with vintage fenders but I don't think there was a wide-panel Pro in '52. Regardless, it sounds fantastic and I just want to know what circuit it is because goddam I want one.
As my memory serves the tube chart DID read as a '52... which puzzled me as well, after going through all the Fender literature, I could just never figure it out... and goddam I miss that amp :(
Beautiful sounding stuff....Amazing amp, lovely guitar....can you tell, does the baseplate fatten up the bridge or does it make it more twangy and bright, like you said tele ?
Hey man, sorry for the late reply... the baseplate adds a bit more grind to the treble-end... and with the Lollar Blackface it was just perfect. Granted... a tele bridge is a tele bridge, but in a strat-style guitar, you couldn't do any better than that setup. I miss the guitar and amp so much... Damned recession.
I wish I had known about the 5E5 circuit before I built my 5E3 Tweed Deluxe kit. I mean I like what mine sounds like but I think this circuit benafits from the 6L6's. But let's not over look the magic that nearly 60 years of age and use can bring to an amp's tone as well. And you simply can't synthisize that with parts and mods.
Hi,
this sound sooooo good!
What Pro is it? 5e3 or 5E3-a?

thanks man... pardon the sloppy noodling... it was definitely an amp demo and not a technical display of mastery :-)
