  • Lovely town, I grew up there and look forward to visiting again soon having watched this. Thanks!

  • I love Shrewsbury... my home town.. I was born here at a very early age... I have lived here all my life... I love the people... it was here at the age of 6 that I started to listen to my mum's old 78's of Elvis... just see what effect it had on me when you listen to too many Elvis records...check out on Youtube... 'Elvis lives... again! ... Shrewsbury Golf Club'

    God bless all Salopians!

  • does any1 remember the lion thing they had in the shopping centre rowley i think he was called and he done a story i think the flood killed him

  • My home town!!!! I love it!!!! Brilliant video! You have done a really good job, kilbegnet.

  • i came here last spring with my school. i live in america, so it was a big deal. i loved it there. the homestay program is cool. though the lady who hosted me was not my favorite person. but i want to go back so bad!!!! it was so nice. he had the town crier yell for us when we marched from the castle to that one square...? i think its so cool he was Hagrid's body double for the Harry Potter movie. Tallest town crier is pretty cool. I wish i lived there

  • Darn it,. now you have made me homesick! To anyone who was at Kingsland Grange 51-56 and Shrewsbury School 56-61, all the best from John Harries.

  • LOVE this video. I moved away from Shrewsbury in '92 and am now currently in Melbourne, Australia. Was last back 'home' a couple of years ago and I think it's time for another trip. The old town never loses her beauty - oh, I also remember going to Woppy Phillips yard as a kid with my dad! Yeah, good memories...

  • I just told a mate of mine that I was planning to visit Shrewsbury. He told me not to bother as there's nothing there. This great video shows how wrong he is. We WILL be making our visit.

  • theres plenty of shops too =D

I know this because I live about 20mins away from shrewsbury! Dont know if youve been yet but Have you heard of Minsterley? thats where I live

  • Just got back from our Shrewsbury trip. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Loads of interesting, non-chain shops loads of pubs and places to eat and buildings full of character. Perfect place for a short break. Sorry never heard of Minsterley but I've checked it out on a map to see where it is. I'll check out all the Minsterley videos on YouTube now.

  • hi my name is john lewis phillips my great grandfather was woppy phillips. i now reside in Australia but after seeing the movie it really brings back very fond memorys of my old haunts especially the scrap yard which as a child was my playground along with moveage farm.

  • I Was in Woppies yard with my Dad when I was a boy. A guy came up to Woppy holding a large ballrace. He asked the price, and, when he was told, said that's a bit expensive. With that,Woppy hurled the bearing into the scrapheapand,as it tinkled down the heap,

  • Woppy said "If you can find it you can have it for nothing" Great guy.You shoul be very proud of him!.

  • you must know my father frank lewis john phillips. he now lives in ford. i wonder if you can remember old conk who worked in the yard along with jim.

  • I remember him well! Also "young George" who used to pick up the scrap from the Sentinel works (Rolls-Royce) I can't recall "the Old Conk", but it sounds like a very apt description of myself!!!!!!!!.

  • so good to speak to people who know and remember my family. feel so very far away being 26,000 klms around the corner lol . brings back some very fond memories of my childhood. can you remember the bomb that was dropped next to the scrap yard at the end of 45 war. also the pows who were sent to the scrap yard to work. i did have some photos of the old house that was bombed , but i have lost them with the multiple moves over the years.

  • i cannot remember the name of the hill next to the scrappy . my brother and i used to get on the sledge and have hours of fun in the snow. young william now / used to own the house overlooking the scrappy.

  • Cross Hill - I used to sledge there too, and yes, my mum told me once that a bomb had dropped there and that some refugees from Liverpool were killed.

  • @woppys69 Ford village =D

  • @woppys69 Hi there John I was just looking up old times on youtube and saw this video, good it is to,I whent to school at featherbed lane and I remember a John Phillips in my class just wondering if it could be you,Chris Turner my name

  • Ahhhhh Shrewsbury!

    Haven't been in a while,but i love it :D

  • A superb advertisement for Shrewsbury ...if only the old Market Hall had been left standing....sigh.

  • And 'The Raven', especially now 'Woolies' is no more . As a child I can remember walking from Smithfield Road to look through the bottle glass windows of The Raven and being spellbound by the revolving door ~ Memories

  • How true!!

  • I lived in Shrewsbury (Cherry Orchard - Monkmoor) until 1988. What a beautiful town it still is. My family are still all there and I wish I could visit more often :-)

  • lovely video, i live in shrewsbury and u have captured the feel of our beautiful market town perfectly...

  • Thanks for this. I grew up in Shrewsbury. My parents kept the Masonic Arms in Belle View. They moved to Sussex when I was 14. I missed my hometown dreadfully. I'm now in Herefordshire and come up every year for the flower show. Did you film this in the early morning? The streets are so empty!

  • 6.4.1997 must have been a Sunday , plus I saw 5.35 ish on The Abbey clock then 8.50 ish on St Chads.

  • Nice little vid :)

  • Being an ex ~ pat Salopian you have managed to make me feel homesick .I grew up in Smithfield Road (opposite 'Woppy Philips yard, houses demolished 1953)and family moved out to Harlescott. I left in 1966 to join the RAF and visit family about twice a year now .

Marvellous views of 'home' ~ Thankyou
