@jester3454 Yes, that's Emily Watson. She costarred with Guy Pearce and Ray Winstone in The Proposition in 2005 (the nominated film here) and was in Red Dragon in 2002. She's also since costarred with Hugo Weaving in Oranges and Sunshine.
He does have a great voice - in the movie V for Vendetta, he has a mask on the entire time, so it highlights his awesome British accent even more. Who knew that he could be so damn sexy with a freaking mask on!
His performance in Little Fish was devastating, just brilliant. There's also a much overlooked film from the 1990's called 'The Interview', if you can get hold of it, watch it's a great movie and Hugo Weaving is fantastic in it also.
Actually, (I know this comment is old but this is for the people who like to read comments; some information.) Hugo was born in nigeria and raised in South Africa, UK and Australia... He spent most his childhood in South Africa and the UK...so, as for homeland (personal homeland not family homeland) neither of you are correct. But Australia was closer.
I just noted something...and this is a very dopey observation...but Hugo seems to have a beard displayed when he is just being himself, like giving an interview or like right there at the ceremony. :)
In this case, Hugo was growing a beard because he was preparing to costar in STC's production of Hedda Gabler, which played NYC in March 2006 and required a full Victorian beard. He did a lot of promotion for V for Vendetta at the same time with the beard. But you are right in that Hugo often wears stubble or a smaller beard when he's between projects. Which isn't often these days. :)
@pixargod Hugo has always readily changed his appearance if a role required it. (The Hobbit might start filming late this year, though nothing is official yet. Weaving has said he'd be happy to return as Elrond if asked.) He does tend to grow a beard between projects, but these days he has a lot of projects. ;)
@gowalkingathinline Fuck, it's not his homeland. Why doesn't anyone look stuff up anymore and assume his Australian because they can't identify a Nigerian/Engish accent
Hugo says, "Hey Russ, you and I and Nic (Nicole Kidman) nearly got to work together," a reference to the Eucalyptus project which fell through in early 2005. It was to have starred all three actors.
Oh, ok. Well, glad that didn't happen, cause i can't imagine a Crowe (terrible actor, in my opinion, and a veeery conceited person..) opposite such a great talent as Hugo Weaving.. It simply wouldn't work..
The film was never made because Crowe kept insisting on script rewrites and couldn't get along with the director, Jocelyn Moorhouse, who'd given him an early break in her film Proof (1991), which also costarred Weaving. Crowe was a great actor in his early career, but I agree that his ego and argumentative nature have limited his range in recent roles. Hugo Weaving sided with Moorhouse in the Eucalyptus dispute, but has consistently refused to speak ill of Crowe or turn the incident into a feud.
I was really impressed with Little Fish, but it's not the easiest film to watch because it has very dark subject matter. Certainly Hugo Weaving and Cate Blanchett do some of their most complex work in it, and their fans should definitely see it. If anyone else likes gritty, character-driven independent films they might like it as well. And Proof is a really great movie...Russell Crowe has a supporting role (Weaving is the lead) and is likeable in ways he hasn't been in recent performances.
Dommage qu'Hugo Weaving soit si peu connu et apprécié en France. C'est un excellent acteur qui n'a pas la grosse tête et de plus il est vraiment craquant !!!
at 1:03 that's the blind women from red dragon right?

He may need to shave that beard if he is going to do the hobbit. Because elrond doesn't have a beard.

Hmm.. Glad i haven't seen Proof then! hehe
Crowe may have been an ok actor, but all that attitude is unacceptable.. But enough of him..

Malheureusement ce n'est pas qu'en France qu'il est si peu connu :(
Ca aiderait peut être si ses film avaient une distribution meilleure quand il s'agit de pays non-anglophones...
