@Roddo08 I agree that Pipe band drumming is the most musical on the planet (I'm a pipe band drummer myself) but to say it's the most technical is bullshit, it's just another style in the rudimental drumming family. I have learnt more from the many American rudimental styles in a few years then I did for 8 years with pipe band drumming, but it doesn't mean either style is better. Alex Durthart always said drummers should learn from each other, internet slating of drumming styles is for wankers.

buddy rich was another one that could "roll paradidles". Look for his 1970 video and watch his rudiments FLY THROUGH THE ROUGH. Besides his backsticking, Buddy could keep up with him. Both have a blessed pair of hands.

In case anyone thought that 1:10 to 1:24 is a full out single stroke roll. It isnt. but a hell of a modulation. The beginning is, but at the "mok speed" it is transitioned into "the flam accent". The shit hits the fan at 1:14, thats where he changes sticking to the flam accent. Only the best of em can fool ya. And only the best of em do it!
they are not even , and you can tell by the stick height. But more importantly, it's a matter of experience and the ear that developes with it. Really, any rudiment one plays should be able to be excuted 1.with power 2. evenly rhythmically. It's really that simple

this man obviously has a talent that was greatly acknowledged he did not learn how to do this in a matter of 5 months he was born with this ability if you watch his right hand when he plays double stroke, his wrist doesn't even move he has amazing finger coordination if you watch carefully you can that the stick looks as if it were bending like when you shake a pencil while holding it between your thumb and index finger at a steady pace
Absolutely no doubt. Jim is probably my biggest influence as far as stick control goes. He blends together finger control, a sort of a moeller motion in order to make the stick rebounce in a way full of feeling and control and other minor muscular moves. I'm starting to understand some of Jim's techniques and feeling while playing.
probably the world's finest drum technician alive - the other ones could be Buddy Rich and Alex Duthart (for MANY reasons. Both had IMMENSE stick control, even using different techniques) :] One thing I would say is that you NEED to start experimenting with the stick's bounce. You should be able to "feel" it - I cannot really explain, but the better you feel connected with the sticks hitting the snare and "coming back", the better your playing turns.
I'm starting to improve on this (please check it "me playing..." if you will, perhaps). Kilpatrick is a BEAST. :] There is so much ridiculously fast syncopations and rudimental mixtures of all kinds being clearly executed at impossible speeds... he is a God.
Is that just Gladstone or what? Any clues??? Jim doing his amazing "mommy and daddy" with one hand is quite amazing as well. Fantastic player. I'm a fan of him and the whole "shotts and dyke". :]

Such an amazing finger control... his fingers and hands barely move! Alex Duthart was also another man with TERRIFIC hand technique. Really amazing.

I have been playing drums for 54 years now and for the ingorant ones this man is the one we all aspire to. For those who don't know he does play a drum kit. For those that think it's easy, have a go. In case anyone thought that 1:10 to 1:24 is a full out single stroke roll. It isnt. but a hell of a modulation. The beginning is, but at the "mok speed" it is transitioned into "the flam accent". The shit hits the fan at 1:14, thats where he changes sticking to the flam accent. Only the best of em can fool ya. And only the best of em do it!

It's a single stroke roll. Anything with flams would be uneven rhythmically, but what he's playing is smooth, hand-to-hand.

they are not even , and you can tell by the stick height. But more importantly, it's a matter of experience and the ear that developes with it. Really, any rudiment one plays should be able to be excuted 1.with power 2. evenly rhythmically. It's really that simple

this man obviously has a talent that was greatly acknowledged he did not learn how to do this in a matter of 5 months he was born with this ability if you watch his right hand when he plays double stroke, his wrist doesn't even move he has amazing finger coordination if you watch carefully you can that the stick looks as if it were bending like when you shake a pencil while holding it between your thumb and index finger at a steady pace

Absolutely no doubt. Jim is probably my biggest influence as far as stick control goes. He blends together finger control, a sort of a moeller motion in order to make the stick rebounce in a way full of feeling and control and other minor muscular moves. I'm starting to understand some of Jim's techniques and feeling while playing.

probably the world's finest drum technician alive - the other ones could be Buddy Rich and Alex Duthart (for MANY reasons. Both had IMMENSE stick control, even using different techniques) :] One thing I would say is that you NEED to start experimenting with the stick's bounce. You should be able to "feel" it - I cannot really explain, but the better you feel connected with the sticks hitting the snare and "coming back", the better your playing turns.

I'd dare to say that out of ALL the snare/pipe/DCI/DCA/kit drummers alive today, Jim is the one to feature the most amazing stick control. His paradiddles are lightning-fast. Actually, I think I've never seen someone playing 'em that fast and clear in my whole life. AMAZING finger technique and moeller. Does anyone know how do they do it? Such an amazing finger control... his fingers and hands barely move! Alex Duthart was also another man with TERRIFIC hand technique. Really amazing.

I have been playing drums for 54 years now and for the ingorant ones this man is the one we all aspire to. For those who don't know he does play a drum kit. For those that think it's easy, have a go. He has won the World Champion solo drumming prize 16 times an all time world record which will not be broken in the next 25 years or so. Oh well that's got that of my chest.
