The Specials were better but I like this, it's just a different era, Terry had an eye for what was going on at the time and got bored easily...you can tell when you look back at all his work. Least he wernt boring! But my heart lies with Ska and The Specials. :-)
this song is utterly amazing! the lyrics, the arrangement along with the feeling terry hall puts into the performance sends shivers up my spine every time i hear it.
This just popped back into my head after years of laying dormant in the reccesses of my 80's mind. Had to search it out again and so glad I did. Love it.
Wish I could find the ürdu version. I have it on vinyl, but I'd like to see it on video. It was always my favorite one. Terry Hall's my man! He IS the coolest!!!!!!!
What i love the most about the video is how happy he is when he sings the smile is dazzling, and is that Heather ( one leg ) Mills on the Bass Guitar ? That drummer is hot i would... cant beat a sensible hair do in the 80's phwoarrrrrrrr.
Both!! It was written by Terry Hall and Jane Weildlin. It is said that they were in a relationship at the time. Also said to be one of the demo's considered by the Specials just before the band split.
@locorojo25 Terry Hall was asked in an interview what instruction he gave the hairdresser when he wanted a haircut and he replied "can I have a Terry Hall please" :D
Used to have this song on vinyl! Played it over and over 'cos I just loved it! It's so full of atmosphere - and to my ears has stood the test of time, it still sounds so good!
Hi Stansara, I thought you may like to know that Terry Hall wrote the bones of this song and sent it to Jane Weidlen(?) who finished it and had the GoGos record it. The FBT recorded thier version about a year later. The song is credited to both of Jane and Terry in both versions.
this was the last single by the band back in 83 a cover by the go go,s featuring belinda carlise. check out the drummer she was in amazulu and the body snatchers
yeah he wrote the title and some of the lyrics in a letter to jane, she then wrote the music and reworked the lyrics and produced the first version which is the best, even though this one is also very good.

off-key chorus and backing singer and the repetitiveness should make this song really annoying, on paper, but it is pure genius! Magic!
