I can remember the days when central london had the very british feel to everything everywhere you go with all the shops having an entire british feel. London has become very americanised with starbucks, subway & mcdonalds. Nothing wrong with them but they look better in america. I always liked the traditional stalls where you could buy newspapers & coca cola & tobacco. THe problem with mixing culture is there is no telling which one will dominate the area. i don' think it works well
I was in London some years ago to a writer's conference, and I loved it. There is such a sense of history there - you have given much to the world - Shakespeare, for example, Charles Dickens, Sir Laurence Olivier, and let's not forget the Beatles. -:) The list goes on. Wonderful country.
We speak your language because it is easy to learn and easier to type on a computer, not because we admire in any way. Most of us are multi-lingual, and we just use English as a communication medium. If we were to use Egyptian, Hebrew or Chinese, or other languages like that, its gonna create heck of a lot of trouble and its not time efficient. As for cars, political systems and TV shows, I don't see in any way we are copying yours. Anyways, we are smart because we declared independence.
