every "good" thing religion has accomplished could have been done by any other philanthropic organization. conversely, the so-called "misuse" of religion has been at the heart of nearly every genocide in history and always seems to be the primary factor in impeding social and scientific progress. i believe the absence of religion would prove to be a great benefit to humanity.

nothing you have said here refuted any of the points i made. sure there are many religious institutions that do a lot of charitable work, but it's nothing special. other non-religions groups can do the job to an equal or better standard than religious groups. basically, there is nothing that religion can accomplish that can't be accomplished without religion. secondly, i said that religion has been a factor in most genocides - not all of them. i don't see what your list proves.

When someones house is burning you should tell the about it. Make it clear that if they don't take action they will die. It is not a kindness to keep the truth from them because you don't want them to feel bad. so you're basically saying that you won't rationalize your belief in god because i won't believe it anyways? - that's one of the most pathetic cop-outs i've ever witnessed. my problem with christians is that they avoid rationalizing their beliefs at all costs. if i heard a really good argument, i might reconsider (that is how i became an atheist in the first place). however, i'm fairly confident that such an argument doesn't exist, or i would have heard it by now.
