Hi My wife and i Just got back from flint we took some vacation time to look at some properties knowing all the bad about flint it was still a oppertunity for us. I wanted to give a perspective that is not being told so here i go . We live in denver and the cost of living for or Apt. is 800 a month after buying a house you just pay for utillites which is real nice even if you had to work part time at Mcdonals you would be able to afford living there anouther nice fact !
dont blame the uaw, unions made the middle class in this country. ford mo.co. didnt need a bailout and their uaw contract was just like gm&chrysler, hmm, seems like a mgt issue to me. why did 1 man, rick wagoner need to make 20mil a yr? toyota caps their execs at two mil a yr. hmm?
You're right, there's a lot of life still in Flint Michigan.
Not a ton of jobs YET. But as time goes on and the dependence on GM diminishes, businesses will hopefully rise up again. I think we put all of our eggs in one basket. The cost of homes has never been lower. It's not a bad place to buy a home and retire. As long as you don't go too far south on dort highway and stick more north-east, the gang violence is kept pretty much under control.
Good job. I was born and grew up on ninth st my folks still live there. Graduated in 78. You keep going over to the other side of the park. Go and do some walking in our hood. It was beautiful in the day and it was a great place to grow up. I left in 82 what street did you grow up on?
What would have happened if that 750 billion bailout of WallStreet would have gone into converting closed auto factories in Flint to producing Green Technology and retraining the laid off factory workers to build them. What affect would that have on the economy if we had done that nation wide instead of giving it to the rich bankers who supported Obama? That would be my Presidential Election Platform if I were to run for President.

Kansas City Mo.-I remember when Shefield Steel was in full boom, activity everywhere in North town. The Fisher auto coach builders thrived, the sill plate of your old GM Chevy said "Body by Fisher" BTW. Now North KC looks like a scary movie set, malls are now antique markets, movie theaters are empty and closed. Most if not all industrial jobs are gone. Our country has become a welfare state of gimme, gimme my Obama cash, how sad of what we became.
@billb89 "Body by Fisher" is what is says when you open the doors of my 1978 Caprice wagon, which I have had for twenty years. Great car. They sure don't make them like this today.
i never see you walking around in the "not so good areas of flint"lot of history, lot of good people in flint.high unemployment.detroit has only removed a few homes.big law suit looming.
Hey Demcad, I see you do videos on Flint, why not do a research video on the cuts to public safety there and how it affects crime there. For instance, I know that their average number of officers on the street is around 8 officers now with a population of approximately 100,000. And the national average for police to citizens is 3 to 1000 while Flint's is now around .8 to 1000. Do you think that's having an impact on crime there and people moving out, and/or businesses coming in?
Do you mind telling us how your family came to be in Flint? Did/do your relatives work in auto mfg? I'm 53, my family moved from Chicago to Orange Calif in 1958 when I was an infant. My Dad was a Bell telephone company installer, so he was a transfer. I believe Orange California had the first Marie Callendar restaurant/pie shop. My mom says Orange to Newport beach was a two-lane through orange groves.
just wanted to say how much i enjoy watching your videos. i am a bit older than you, a white guy, and i live in a little town in the hill country of texas called wimberley. keep it up, both posting the videos and the daily work-outs with your gear- you are dedicated- and even though i don't know you i am proud of you and would be happy to call you my friend.

I come from a small town called Maesteg in Wales, UK. It is set in one of the famous valleys in the south of Wales, deep in the coal field that at one time produced a huge proportion of the worlds coal. Industry declined in the 1980s and there was nothing to fill the vacuum it left, therefore the area has suffered over the last 30 years from high levels of unemployment and generations of people on welfare. However many people still work at the steel works a few miles away in Port Talbot.
Will the Global Economy Crash is it to big to fail? The dow in the 1980's was 900 to 1000 then the Global Economy came about. And they pumped it up to 12000 and 14000 and they call it Global but they don't have control of it any more. They screwed up they sold out to china, japan, mexico, yep thats were your dow went abuot 10000 points of it now who is in control our broke ass or china and japan and mexico leaders. there's your money we control 1 /12th of our economy, they control 11/12
Im in Vegas and the fact is if I took my camera out... There are thousands of people gamblen, drinken, spending money like crazy while we're in the worse recession in history. Just another perspective ... if were broke, why are there millions of people spending money like water? Its the mindset I said. More wealth is created and made in recessions and depressions.
why are people complaining about GM, they have the right to move elsewhere, its a business. There not going overseas for cheeper rates. Americans got programmed thinking that we got paid more but devaluation of our dollar and hidden inflation cause this. Remember half the world. 3.5 billion people make $2 a day. In south America, people make around $200 a month and they have enough to life. It is the governments fault for devaluing the dollar so business move out the country.
It is not so much the company to blame. Companies want profit that is their sole reason to exists. It is all the Government regulations, unions and taxes that force a corporation to do business abroad to keep the profits that they need to make. Listen to Peter Schiff much?
Want to get rid of the rats, get rid of the nests and the free food. ie Welfare, section 8, and cheap run down homes. But in a progressive world, we'll probably see casinos open before we see industry return... step right up folks, trade your bridge cards for poker chips!!! Get lucky !!! Pay your rent this month!!! It's all fun and games in the entitlement casino!!!
Hi DEMCAD, I'm from Sheffield in the UK, a post-industrial city.
Sheffield ought to be famous (but isn't) for the fact that the first King of all England, King Egbert of Wessex, was crowned there in 829 AD after defeating the Northumbrian king.
Sheffield is also home to the world's oldest soccer club, Sheffield F.C. and the Crucible Steel process was invented here by Benjamin Huntsman.
@neemz2000 : i m way way south of you mate, down here in guernsey, channel islands.i heard you also have a huge massive out of place mosque there as well.a guy i met recently told me the workers who build it put bacon into the morter.i dont know if that is crazy or really right on.either way, the whole scenario is quite twist`d
Yes, Flint proves the Progressives can destroy and economy and replace it with less. How does it feel know your town was one of the first great experiments????
@Plum369 The weird thing about NAFTA is this' I had a Better Job in an American Company in Canada without Free Trade! Free Trade is designed to help businesses and it does! Problem is it helps them by allowing them to move to Countries with slave Labor which in turn, decimates the lifestyles in the Wealthier countries. Free trade sucks for all Western countries Workers!
I'm quite glad I was born in the era I was. I saw the rise of computers, the internet (for the common man) ...saw the electronic age, saw the internet age, the rise of huge economics bubbles and 'prosperity'...and now I'm going to experience the greatest depression :p
i would bet that your neighbors are getting familiar with seeing you trecking around the neighborhood with your backpack on,Flint looks really beautiful i can see why you wanted to leave that little claustaphobic island , Ketchican...keep on treckin..yo
El Paso, Texas - 7 out of 10 top employers are government. 75%+ are Hispanic and people speak Spanish more often than English here. Bordering on Drug Cartel wars is interesting.
Gm is notorious for another thing they fought to remove light rail from the suburbs and expanding the interstate system to promote the automobile one of the most inefficient modes of transport compared to the train and motor cycle. Many of the nations issues stem from the lack of public transportation supressed by the autoindustry. I would much rather ride a trolley through a town and read my book or watch girls than have to drive. You can drink and get home safely that way too.
@chiyerano Not sure sounds logical since an electric car should have a life expectancy that far exceeds that of the ice car. The news just had the mayor of NOLA and the governor wanting a high speed rail installed linking the cities. IMHO any rail high speed or just a plain old 55 mph rail would aleviate traffic. There are people that would leave their car if they had a rail option.
I think the schools are charging way too much for degree's. It's too the point where it isn't about what you learned for the degree it's about, well I paid 60k for my degree you have to hire me.
@TVFOGGED I know I liked the scene on the movie Good Will hunting where he was in the bar and had the confrontation with the Ivy league student. You can get MIT educated on line they offer their classes here on YT. Also there is a tutor called the khan academy he teaches very slow but details where a 3 year old can make it work.
Oshawa Ontario,, the birthplace of GM. Same story was a great auto city but decimated by union greed, thousands of good jobs lost since the 90's and now a huge University that really only employs very few academics leaving blue collar ppl out in the cold. Sound familliar.
70380Orginally called Brashere city later changed name in early 1900's to morgan city known for the Shrimp and petrolieum festival. First tarzan movie was filmed there the city has always been integrated for the most part. The town owned mostly by a hand full of people missed many opportunites like the Mall in Houma College in Thibadeaux could have been constructed in 70380 but the wealthy owners would not sell the land. So wally world is 9 miles away huge tax loss.
@cdltpx Ji Jaga (Jeronimo Pratt) is from there.Ji was known as the leader of the Black Panther party at one time and was a political prisoner in California for over 26 years. The town is located very near the Gulf of Mexico and was very wealthy. The mayor died Doc Brownell had a net worth exceeding 260G. City has their own utilities and it is well run electricity rarely goes out even after a hurricane. The police are not to be trusted there. Best to live in Berwick 2mi west.
My Home town would Be Oromocto NB. My Father was a Warrant Officer at CFB Gagetown, a large, by Canadian Standards, Military Base. I grew up there during the bases hey day, so there was lots of money, and lots of military type things for us as kids to get into!lol. It's kind of sad to go back there now and see rows upon rows of empty PMQ's, houses for Military, Schools that I attended now closed or converted into something else etc! Such is life I guess!
Reggie please get yourself some walking sticks it will take a lot of weight off your knees lower back. They can be used to keep a wild dog at bay until you can get your knife out. I guarantee you will love them they are usually carbon fiber and offer shock absorbers in them adjustable extends your range too prevents you from falling down if in the woods you will trigger a snake or other animal to strike at the stick rather than your leg allowing you to avoid a death strike.

Sheffield is also home to the world's oldest soccer club, Sheffield F.C. and the Crucible Steel process was invented here by Benjamin Huntsman.

yeah, the "giant sucking sound" of NAFTA. you right D.
Plum369 1 year ago

When did GM pull out of Flint Mich. ?
lkevins1 1 year ago
El Paso, Texas - 7 out of 10 top employers are government. 75%+ are Hispanic and people speak Spanish more often than English here. Bordering on Drug Cartel wars is interesting.

Flint has a bad reputation, but it looks like a nice place. I'm sure GM used and abused Flint. I live in beautiful Highlands Ranch, CO.

You can drink and get home safely that way too.
cdltpx 1 year ago
@cdltpx I am for public transportation as well. Too many cars on the road IMHO. Also, wasn't GM partially responsible for ending the electric car?
chiyerano 1 year ago
@chiyerano it was fully responsible.
xxbrockloverxx 1 year ago
