  • Nat was basically like "Frank give Doris and Olivia their space so Doris can convince Olivia to say something so I don't have to marry you"

  • Doris is the BEST!!!!!!!! I love her for trying to help stubborn Olivia. And Frank? UGH! I can't stand him. Thank GOD Natalia came to her senses- she was cutting it a bit too close though.

  • making a wish, really Frank what a fucktard!

  • we all know what's best for her and it's you Olivia

  • So I read the first two chapters in the book of Ruth Natalia was referring too at 0:20. Ruth is talking to her mother in- law when she says...." Whither thou goest, i will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God " They are traveling to Namoi's home land and Namoi is telling Ruth to go back to her family because she has nothing to offer her daughter of Law. It is really quite touching.

  • lmao... "Making a wish?" ?!?! Is that what they do with those funny looking candles in church Frank... really?? What a douche.

God this episode and entire week was [and still is, everytime I re-watch it!] the most emotionally crippling thing I've ever watched?! I love CC and JL oh so much. They are amazing together. Venice is going to be so wonderful to watch... I just know it!!

  • Maybe the guy who plays Frank is just a bad actor, or maybe Im backwards, he's just a really good actor...But you're right, there's not chemistry at ALL.

  • i'm begining to think that this biblical script is for lez girls because green fried tomatos used it also

  • I love Doris here.

  • yeah frank those words are not for you.....they for Olivia my darling:)

  • did anyone get the hint? natalia talks to frank about the book of ruth in the bible and the words she´s quoting are the words that ruth said to her mother-in-law noomi after her husband died...

  • I love how Nat stalls Frank from getting Doris... She is giving her time to talk so sense into O.

  • There is just no chemistry between Frank and Natalia...how can Frank be so blind!?

  • from 2:05 these is an amazing monologue from Olivia. so much love in it. well written!

  • guess we all do!? :-)

  • i love fried green tomatoes

  • wow a selfless olivia who would of thought...

  • What's powerful about the scripture that Nat quoted is what Ruth says to Naomi. Although it was her mother in law, she still was a woman. Im hoping that Nat will say this to Liv some day.

  • Everytime I hear that scripture, I think of Fried Green Tomatoes. lol

  • Me too :)

  • I love that movie!

  • I think Natalia keeps waiting to be rescued and swept off her feet by Olivia. She doesn't think she's strong enough to pull herself out of what has been drilled into her as the "right thing to do".

  • CC, I bow to you... You bring tears to my eyes... I feel Olivia's pain so deeply... You bring it all to the surface so brilliantly... BRAVA!!!

  • Serious... is there no money in the budget at GL so Doris can get a new jacket.

  • lmfao @ misojos24 u r hilarious! this is a deep moment...ur ruining it for me LOL!

  • Doris wants for Otalia what she can't have for herself.

  • man of the selfless things that Olivia does for Natalia wow & the list keeps going on--if Natalia only knew.

  • Anyone that believes in true love should be watching otalia, if guiding light decides to make dvds of otalia I would definately be among the first in line to buy it. This storyline is just to BEAUTIFUL.

  • Man...you know true love when the person will give up their OWN happiness for the sake of someone else...

  • "i want a good life for her, more than I want her for myself " DAMN!

  • Mayor Doris is my heroine. The ol' silent phone trick...good for her...

Poor Liv, she's trying so hard to do what she thinks is right...this is a major clusterf*ck....

  • i luv you for saying clusterf*ck

  • trust me , i will never let go of you. thats the direct translation from the book of ruth

  • "Entreat me not to leave thee, and to depart from going after thee, for whither thou goest, I will go, and wither thou lodgest, I will lodge. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. Only death will separate between you and me."

I love that speech. And we all cite it as a proof of the courage, the loyalty and her love for Olivia.

  • Ya dykerinnie, the book of Ruth is one of my favorites! It was perfect for what Olivia and Natalia feel! Although, they are a while from stating it so boldly as Ruth did.

  • I hear ya.

  • Frank looks like SUCH a total duff in this wedding - like some gumby !!

  • lol being german I have no idea what these words really mean but they sound like they apply to the furtz!

  • i love the use of the passage from the book of Ruth. Pity Frank doesnt know his Old Testament. That passage is a woman professing her love/devotion to another woman. Big ass clue right there Frank! And i love that Natalia says this is about marriage, as i'm pretty sure she knows that its about two women.

  • Olivia is so selfless. WOW!!! That takes guts to be. TRUE LOVE!!

  • I LOVE the major. i just knew that she was pretending that her phone had gone off. i love the producers for having the confidant of Otalia do the wedding. hilarious!

  • I see Natalia after she finishes speaking with Frank looking around...searching for Olivia's presence with her eyes! Totally love Natalia! She is amazing

  • I see them. Wow, you've got a great eye! I actually love teeth that aren't perfect. I love gaps, esp the front teeth. Something totally hawt about it.. I myself am a product of 5 years of braces and 4 more years of retainers, so I think this is just my internal teeth expressing their straightened pain.

But if CC wants braces, that's still cool. She's the sexiest and hottest woman!

  • "Natalia, your relationship with god is what defines you."

Is that the only significant part of her he can see (along with cooking and knitting? o_O

It's ONE of the things that define her...

  • OMG CC, has braces on and I am just noticing them. STOP trying to push Nat on Frank.. I agree with Doris 150% that right atleast can see the light even if Nat and Liv are to blind too.

  • CC has braces? I don't see them.

  • When she is talking to Doris, (Look very closely)You will see a silver line across her teeth.(top) She had them put on to close the wee gaps in her teeth.Pause it!. I love everything about my CC

  • Plus a slight over bite. CC is still Fine +Sexi as hell!!!!

  • Wow, good eye. She duz have braces.

  • I love that Natalia is devoted to her religion and beliefs. It adds a great element to the story... that sometimes we cannot help who we love and that love can't be bad. Even when it is between two people of the same sex.

  • Wow...That took guts for Natalia to stop the wedding..and run out the church....My hat goes off to Doris.. Ok..Olivia go get your woman

  • gosh, Olivia has a lot of strenght...and Doris I think eventually will became a good friend, she cares about these two, otherwise she wouldn't push Liv to fight so hard for Nat

  • Does anyone have any suggestions about what Natalias prayer may have been when she was lighting the candle? My guess is it went something like this, O pleeeze lord, send a lightening bolt and strike Frank down. I know that Doris is trying to help me out please make her a saint and Olivia is doing her best to not drag me out of this church but I dont have the courage to walk away. So a little act of nature would help right about now.Amen.

  • Haha, your really funny about Natalia's prayer..lol

  • I wrote the prayer before Natalia ran out of the church. Therefore she had the courage afterall. A lightening bolt wasn't needed.

  • OK...thought I was raised as a Catholic and am now what we call "lapsed Catholic", I'm still pretty sure that lighting a candle in church does not equal "making a wish". Can Frank make any more assinine comments before Nat gets a friggin' clue that he's just patronizing her?

  • I love the way we come from diffrent countries and we speak different languages but we all have a lot in common

  • Destini was right!

  • Oh yes, love the Fried Green Tomatoes connection. My how we all recognize these beautiful beautiful references and what a job these writers have done!

Otalia is very much like The Children's Hour also- an accusation reveals what is actually the truth and they turn out to be one in the same. Its' like all the great stories about women in love with one another with truth and beauty and God and sacrifice all in one. Television history and pity for those who are missing it.

  • WE are not thinking anything! SHUT FRANK!

Goddess, Goddess, Goddess sometimes being selfish it the right choice all along. It also wouldn't hurt you to...oh I don't know, ask Natalia what she wants! Where's that damn broom...

  • RUTH. Still ded over that one.

  • Oh Liv *sigh* "I want that for her, more than I want her for myself." True love at it's best and brightest. All Frank seems to want is to get the wedding over with as fast as possible :P

Come on Liv!!! All the people witnessing the wedding say they came to see true love. Show 'em what it's all about!!!!!!!!!!!

  • hah i love that natalia wants to give doris some time to convince olivia to stop the wedding! DORIS!!!

  • FRANK. FRANK IS AUGHT BUT DEATH. I know I make an "Augh" sound every time I see him. That has to mean something!

  • A little FYI, as a Christian lesbian, Ruth and Naomi are said to be a lesbian couple in the Bible. She cleaves to her, where cleave= marriage.

These writers know their stuff. Too bad Nathalia doesn't!

  • WOW!!! You might be the first gay christian I have seen, what do you say to christians who say you are an abomination and all that awful stuff?

  • Yeah, and not only that, but there has also been a whole debate about the translation of the word 'lodgest' in the new standard version, since the original verb meant literally 'to sleep' as in: ''where you sleep I shall sleep''

  • natalia gets real deep with the scripture....amen. then frank has to be a dumbass and ask why she's thinking about that.....

olivia again stating what she wants for natalia.....and talking about what she can't give her....is it me but for someone who claim to not know what would be next after that near kiss ....olivia sure knows what natalia wants ..more kids? when did that conversation come up? olivia has been thinking about her future with natalia alot. olivia is killing. and i love it

  • Very telling scene here... GO DORIS!! GO DORIS!! There is NO WAY as a lesbian that I would think the woman I love would be better off with "him" instead of me! I would be dragging this man around the church by his ears!! Hee hee! Thanks Otaliafan! ;-))

  • Yes, I can't believe they worked the book of Ruth verse in there! Brill.

And more love to Doris. It's like she's trying to spare Liv something that she experienced already.

  • I recognized that verse immediately because I heard it one day when my dad dragged me to his church one day and I thought it was really beautiful

  • Lol, I recognized that verse immediately because I've seen Fried Green Tomatoes about 100 times...It is a beautiful verse though.

  • I absolutely LOVE Doris!!! She is the best Otalia BFF ever!!!

  • I love that Natalia is quoting scripture from the book of Ruth!!! It was written by a woman for a woman!!! That told me she was thinking about her love for Olivia the entire time!!! Also, she holds off Frank to allow Doris to talk to Olivia, knowing that Doris is "gay" and hoping that Doris will talk Olivia into interrupting the wedding!!! There is so much intelligent though behind what's going on in these scenes, one could watch them for hours and catch something new each time!!!

  • That is so true. It what makes this storyline incredible and so addicting.

  • I freaked out when Nat brought up the Book of Ruth passage. What a slap in the face to Frank!

  • Frank does not even have a freakin' clue that Ruth's words were said from one woman to another. That was his biggest hint ever that he doesn't even have a chance!

  • OMG...your reply to my comment gave me a deeper insight into the story...Natalia was reciting her vows for the person she truely loves!!! That's what that passage in Ruth was for her!!! She put more of herself into saying that passage then she did at the alter saying her vows to Frank!!! I love it!!! She couldn't marry Frank, because in saying those vows her heart already made it's committment to her true love!!! The woman of her hearts desire...Olivia!!! Her heart is married to Olivia!!!

  • Exactly! Also, after about watching the so-called "vows" scene in part 5 that Natalia said to Frank at the alter for like the 10th time I had a new revelation: Natalia is saying two very different things in two parts. Listen carefully in part 5. From 0:00 0:24, its like Natalia is talking about her ideal marriage, what every little girl is supposed to dream of, what she thinks her life should be... continued.

  • But then from 0:31 1:34, its like Natalia is explaining that she has FINALLY accepted that the love that she feels for Olivia is pure, from god and OKAY and that shes ready to devote her life TO OLIVIA and pledge her heart TO OLIVIA! That also explains why Olivia starts crying at that point because she gets exactly what Natalia is saying and that the words are for her! And magically, the lyrics of the song playing as Natalia runs out of the church are and bring me home

  • exactly what i though! those "vows" were actually natalia speaking to olivia. i COMPLETELY expected natalia to turn to her left and say, that's why i want to make this pledge to you, OLIVIA. man that would have been awesome!!! but i guess being that cold to frank isnt really natalias style. still tho, would have been great.

  • That would have totally been great! But not as great as Natalia running out of the church RUN NATALIA RUN! RUN NATALIA RUN! (I've been chanting this all day, since yesterday!)

  • as much as I want to see Natalia take off the dress, *pregnancy does make seeing her in it bearable!*

  • Frank comes up to Natalia and asks if she's making a wish?! And then she seriously still thinks or at least has deluded herself enough to think he knows her beliefs? Seriously? Making a wish?!

  • Ellen Wheeler & Jill Lorie Hurst = GENIUS.

    Absolutely incredible writing

  • I agree....just WOW!

  • yes,the book of ruth, beautiful scripture,to think that frank will get the hint,lol..so thankful that oli found an allie in doris.

  • when Nat tells Frank to give Doris a minute i wonder if shes thinking after seeing her and Liv talking that she will talk Liv in to objecting it wld save her from doing so

  • Did anyone see "Fried Green Tomatoes" that same

Bible verse that was use in the movie.

Fried Greeen Tomatoes a wonderful movie about 2

    women and they "friendship".

  • You should read the actual book "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe". Fannie Flagg did an amazing job and there's nothing ambiguous about their relationship either.

  • Oh Liv, you self-flagellating Goddess! What a week! This show is bringin' it! I hope we get a kiss at the gazebo tomorrow, even if it's a short one.

  • This is incredible writing. I am in awe of JLH and EW right now. The passage Natalia recites from The book of Ruth, Chapter 1... Ruth says that to Naomi. Amazing choice, and I'm sure it was chosen deliberately. CC blew me away, again - 'I want that for her more than I want her for myself.' Freakin' Goddess! HELP US TO KEEP THE LIGHT SHINING.

  • Yes, it's a perfectly cheeky choice of a prayer from the writers. This is a segment of the book of Ruth that is often used at lesbian commitment ceremonies, because it is a sort of of declaration of love/devotion from Ruth to Naomi. There is actually a lot of academic work done on this, trying to interpret what was going on btween them, with a lot of them saying it was an actual love story. Ruth leaves everything to go with Naomi, after Naomi's husban dies...as I said cheeky writers!!

  • ha! My prof. never mentioned that angle when we got to the book of Ruth, lol. It is a beautiful passage though, as are many in the bible.

  • I totally agree I seriously thought about sending JLH & EW some flowers or a fruit basket today b/c they have really give us a wonderful story!

  • Could someone please translate the prayer into English? I didn't get it at all:-(

  • Ruth 1:16-17

Do not ask me to abandon or forsake you, for wherever you go I will go, wherever you lodge I will lodge, your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Wherever you die I will die, and there be buried. May the Lord do so and so to me, and more besides, if aught but death seperates me from you.

  • Thank you!

  • for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God. Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the LORD do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.. Hope that helps.

  • And Ruth said to Naomi: ''Entreat me not to leave thee; for whither thou goest I will go, and where thou lodgest I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God; where thou diest will I die, and there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, if aught but death part thee and me.''

  • 2 post (over word count)

    It is basically saying:

Wherever this person goes, I will go and wherever this person travels to live I will travel to live. This persons family and friends will be my family and friends, and this persons God also my God. The place where this person dies will be the place I die and buried beside this person. The lord will do so to me and more if something other than death part us.

  • part 2 of post

The last line is basically a statement that if death separates them the lord will be merciful but if something other than death separates them the lord will not show mercy.

  • Sharing this experience with all of you makes this so much more special. I can't wait to log on and see all of your comments!

  • Erikatica I totally agree. I watch the show after work everyday but I stay up to log in and read everyone's comments. It makes the episode that much more wonderful to me.

  • Hiya, Allison! Great to see ya. :-)

  • I just saw your beautiful comment on the 4/17 preview page and hadn't seen that before I posted my comment here. Thank you! I'm telling you...separated at birth...lol

  • loved the Book of Ruth in Fried Green Tomatoes and I double love it here!!! Great passage!

"Wither thou goest I will go!!"

Nat has a message for you Olivia!!

  • Doris Rocks!!!!!

  • hah, way to go nat. give doris more time to convince liv to change her mind.

  • i have been refreshing as well insanejane, lol i should be asleep but i shall wait and thank you for the clips

  • haha...i should be doin Calculus homework but I've been waiting all day for today's episode to be uploaded

  • so... she's gonna get married anyway. I can't believe that.

  • Appropriate scripture. For the two shall be one. Loving Nat saying this. She knows what is true love.

  • ergh, missed the episode today, and there seems to be some holdup with the CBS website's streaming video.

  • i love doris..shes great, poor liv, sigh

  • So wonderful and ironic that she quotes the Book of Ruth...wonderful writing!

  • That prayer is so beautiful, and she was totally talking about Olivia. Again: I heart Doris.

  • yes, it's commonly used at weddings. and the really important part of that passage is that it's from the book of ruth. ruth says that to another woman (naomi). the context was different, it was the old testament after all, but the irony is delicious.

  • Exactly. I was thinking when I heard her quote the passage, "Natalia's a lesbian and didn't even know it." Naturally. And couldn't help remembering Idgie and Ruth...Sigh....so damn romantic.

  • well yeah, and she says it's about the sanctity of marriage, of course it's NOT--at least not the way it was originally used (unless i missed the part where the old testament supported marriage between two women). it's just often used in that context because it is very applicable.

idgie and ruth indeed. but this one needs to end differently.

  • Yes, I believe that in Ruth (hey, she has her own book... woo...) it's about the loyalty of Ruth to Naomi.

I think a lot of people use it at Weddings (same sex or otherwise) because it does also describe what a marriage should be very nicely.

  • Thank You so Much....

  • Love how Natalia wanted Doris to have an extra minute.. to uh, talk Olivia into sweeping her off her feet!!!

  • finally...i've been refreshing for a while waiting for part 2...lol
