the rich folks chased-off the hippies from Vic by labeling them all as junkies. They even had a news segment showing my friends and I panhandling, walking etc. and talking about the heroin addicts. So now that all the pot-smoking hippies are gone, they got a bunch of junkies/crack-heads from vancouver
Well, from an outside eye I remember there used to be hippies playing hackie sack in the park, now in the same place there is these little hommies selling crack, good choice Victoria.
I remember some of the hippies were not so nice and friendly but may where bundles of joy, and a credit to victoria.
You get what you as for... now you have these rude skinny pants types all over won't even hold a door for someone and there parents still pay for them... oh well
Watching the poverty in Victoria drove us to move from that city. Everyone at our church had financial problems, employers were paying sub-standard wages,or less than 40 hours week.
The government officials there only catered to wealthy people, and there always seemed to be land for gorl courses, but not subsidized housing. It is not perfect here in Ontario, but at least there is meaningful employment, and government seems to show more concern for low income and homeless people.
Just giving homeless people a free place to live wont help. I know first-hand that street youth have no ambition to find themselves a job. I do agree that welfare is a great thing for people who need it, but too many people abuse it and spend years living off my tax money
well it sounds like you have some classy friends. Me I have many friends that have lived in poverty in Vic due to no affordable housing, low wages, mean classist rich people (and a few poor people) racisim toward natives has been rampant before Victoria even had a name... everyone charges up the butt for everything just to keep up.
very well done government has to invest in the social sector or the rule of law and civil society will cease to exist as people will no longer believe
Victoria ended up with homeless on every corner and people on trips really hating the place, there is no place to have a beer even its sad.
Vic - for the newly wed the newly dead, and junkies.

yes, because I have a lot of friends that are homeless and use the churches, drop-in centers and welfare without wanting to change their lives.
