O my god! This resembles a part of my story. I was a swedish citizen since I was 4 years old. When I became 15 my family, including me, travelled to Egypt as visitors. But then my family forced me to stay there and go at a horrible school. I lived there even when I was 12 and 13, and it was a nightmare. So I understand how that mother and her daughter feel. Now I am 30 and live a normal life in Sweden.

Our 6th grade social studies teacher showed us this movie (when it came out on dvd) and it was violent and some parts when they will play this type of scary music that they would keep most of them on the edge of their seats. It was a good movie, but to me it wasn't even scary..... But when I said they will play freaky music it scared us because we didn't know what would happen next

It's not bad that hollywood decided to make this movie: it happened and her story deserves to be told in whichever way she chooses to tell it. Movies are meant to portray people who have had special or interesting lives, so if it is a one of a kind happening then it can still be made a movie. HOWEVER, I do think that the movie didn't show this and when it said 'A mother in daughter in Iran who's only crime was being American' made it sound anti iranian, I agree. I haven't watched the film.
Whatever happened to Betty mahmoody is one of a kind. It's not a typical everyday happening. Who knows, maybe her husband had some mental issue. I just watched this today. Really tense movie. I think a lot of the misconceptions of the depiction of the culture comes from the husband taking advantage of the wive's ignorance of his culture and was able to exploit it for control. Just my opinion.

Our 6th grade social studies teacher showed us this movie (when it came out on dvd) and it was violent and some parts when they will play this type of scary music that they would keep most of them on the edge of their seats. It was a good movie, but to me it wasn't even scary..... But when I said they will play freaky music it scared us because we didn't know what would happen next

It's not bad that hollywood decided to make this movie: it happened and her story deserves to be told in whichever way she chooses to tell it. Movies are meant to portray people who have had special or interesting lives, so if it is a one of a kind happening then it can still be made a movie. HOWEVER, I do think that the movie didn't show this and when it said 'A mother in daughter in Iran who's only crime was being American' made it sound anti iranian, I agree. I haven't watched the film.

Whatever happened to Betty mahmoody is one of a kind. It's not a typical everyday happening. Who knows, maybe her husband had some mental issue. The point I"m making is that there are numerous iranians married to foreigners who are having perfectly happy lives. It's such a shame that hollywood decided to make a movie that attacks a culture and grossly exaggerates every possible shortcoming in that culture (like the stupid scene with the sheep blood).

I just watched this today. Really tense movie. I think a lot of the misconceptions of the depiction of the culture comes from the husband taking advantage of the wive's ignorance of his culture and was able to exploit it for control. Just my opinion.
