oh man, i cried from fear and laughed while watching this. it's hilarious. i've been vigorously searching for insight that's not all sugar-coated, but lays out the true ideas when entering the field. currently doing a school research-project on a career i want. i feel relieved to find this, even though it's like 3 hard punches to the gut, haha... thanks for the videos!
@ MrM5exy My goal is to tell people that optometry is being "sold" to them by people who stand to pforit from their entry.Private practice is what most want to pursue, but it's dying.Clueless academics like dmaino like to interject their opinions. Look at the facts, visit ODWire.org and SDN and read some threads optometry. Most practicing ODs are wary of anyone entering the field now. Future ODs will be underpaid and overworked. If you're ok with that, go for it.
Dominik, you’re an old man who still thinks he lives in the optometry of the 80s. You've no idea what I have or haven't accomplished in my career. I make a decent living as an OD, but future grads will have a much harder time doing so after buying an even more expensive OD. You’re nothing more than an old academic who’s out of touch with reality. There’s a novelty. By the way, love the ridiculous Shakespear getup in your photo. Maybe you “putt from the ruff” like he did? Sure looks like it.
Once again if you spent half the time you spend on these stupid and misleading videos...you just might be able to make a good living....you a a very sad example of someone who would probably fail at anything you attempted....and then find someone else to blame. Sad. Very sad. Now...go get a job cleaning toilets....you a dishing out nothing but crap anyway. (BTW if you or anyone are good at cleaning toilets....that's awesome....it's honest work)
Greetings @StayAwayFromAnOd, are you really in the industry? From the dialogue, it seems you know every nook and cranny. I considered optometry as a future career but i just need the extra push to stop me getting myself into this type of shithole. Do you think it is better to pursue a field i would enjoy doing everyday even if it means less pay? (Cyber security)
A truly great and honest video. I used to wonder why an OD could not become involved in preventive work. I don't deal with the general public on these issues. I can see why an OD can not deal with the prevention of myopia on the threshold.
Wow, seems like ttiiyy is unable to defend herself. She came, she spoke (incoherently), she got conquered. Then she disappeared like fans at a Miley Cyrus concert after she starts singing. I actually don't even know if it was truly a "she." Maybe she's actually a she-male or he-she or some kind of man with lady parts. Perhaps a lady with man parts. I guess we'll never know. Goodbye ttiiyy......you will be missed. I sincerely enjoyed making fun of your broken english and rambling thoughts.
@ttiiyy Wow, you seem to have simply repeated the same random thoughts from the other video you posted comments on (thanks for visiting, btw, I appreciate your business.) Can you at least try to come up with some new stuff? It's no fun for me to have to keep responding to the same nonsense. Don't get me wrong, it was great at first, but it's just getting a little boring and I don't feel like coming up with retorts to your repetitive blurting. Thanks for your consideration.
@ttiiyy Ok, we already talked about this so I'm a little disappointed in your progress. You totally failed on your capitalization homework. "You know that you TOOK the easy way out.." doesn't work. What you wanted to say was "You know that you took the EASY way out.." See how that works? It's much more fluid & it makes sense. Side note: Yes, I am distinctly aware that ophthalmologists can perform surgeries "such as LASIK." I tried to count the number of times you mentioned it, but I lost track.
Ugh, you're such a crybaby. Stop playing victim. It's not as if you went to a medical school. You know that you TOOK the easy way out. That's right, I used the word easy. Have you ever though about how some ophthalmologists have lost so much business from OD's like you?
Yeah, sure, you had good grades back in the optometry school. So what? Can you compare yourself to an ophthalmologist? They have to do more work at school than you ever did. They're trained to do surgeries. Can you?
Thanks for the clarification, but I got your reference to the mic. What I was referring to was the fact that you cannot use your own voice in making those videos. Also, you had it right the first time - it's a mic, not a mike. Let's take a look => mic....rophone? See how that works? Seriously, though, I'd think about that fluffy pillow and nap time. Good use of the word insolent, though. You don't see that every day. Keep 'em coming, I could do this all day.
@StayAwayFromAnOD Your reply to my insolent, aimless bitching is entirely too civil and complimentary. (A mike [I fucked up the spelling, on that, in the previous post — :|] would let you record your dialogue instead of type it into the throat of a soul-less, mechanical voice that makes one wish one were being run over by an ugly Ford Pinto.)
@Southernflounder, Ask yourself if an OD provides a solid return and give some numbers to back it up. Where do MOST grads go now, PP or commercial? Pay has dropped 21K since '07 and cont to drop. People are herding into the profession like lemmings, completely unaware of what's ahead. No one goes into optometry thinking "I really want to work at WalShart!" I don't deny that there are folks out there who get good jobs. Professions are not defined by exceptions, they're defined by the norm.
@StayAwayFromAnOD Pay has dropped 21K since 07. And that surprises you? It's about time. You really think that you deserve to get paid that much? Can you perform LASIK and other surgeries that an ophthalmologist can? LOL Wake up and stop dreaming.
@Southernflounder Amen! This guy is such a loser. I will have a lot more sympathy for him/her if this person were an ophthalmologist.
He/she probably thinks that he/she got A's back in the optometry school, so he/she now deserves to make as much money as a brain surgeon. What a loser.
Seriously, if you can't even do LASIK as an ophthalmologist, just shut the fuck up and be grateful that you can get a job at a retail store.
Getting an A on a paper exam at an optometry school is NOTHING

Wow, someone needs a fluffy pillow and a nap. Nice punctuation, though. What exactly is a mic going to do for me?
