You could do that. It would end up being more rectangular in shape rather than a square cute. If you want to do 9X12, just score every 3 inches on the 9" side and every 4" on the 12 inch side. OR you could cut your paper down to 9x9 to make a cube and score every 3 inches . Either way, you would end up with a smaller box than the one in the video, but lots of people make smaller boxes.
use your brains people--you dont need cutting boards and scoring blades to make art. this is sad. cant people figure this out on their own? of course you can make a bigger box. you can make this as big as you want. how about using an acutal box, how about making your own box out of pieces of cardbaord omg. i'm astonished by the tininess of these questionss
You need a single sheet of square cardstock for your base. You are limited by the size of cardstock you can find. I can only obtain 12x12, so that limits my size. If you can find larger cardstock, you can make a larger explosion box. I varied each layer by 1/4" in the video, but you can make each layer 1/2" smaller and whatever you want.
The papers I used to design this are no longer available. Give it a try with papers you have on hand. It's fun and makes a good weekend afternoon project :)
I don't remember the cutting board showed in the video, but I have two different ones ( a green and a grey one that I got at Tuesday Morning). The huge white grid paper I work on in many of the videos is from Stampin Up. It is sold in a pad of 100 sheets. One pad last a LONG time.
Do you have a method to help figure out where to score & How big to make each paper? I'd like to do these in various sizes and was wondering if there is a formula to it? The first one I'm doing will be a 12X12 then I think a 8X8.
You don't need to round the outer edge corners if you don't wish. But I would recommend using glue on your lid. You could try the double sided tape but I worry that it won't be strong enough and over time the lid would undo itself. Hope that helps you. Lisa
@bexxiiiibex; Are yu using only 1 cardstock for the base? It might not be heavy enough Because she used like 3 cardstocks + glued pattern paper/embelishments on it, so it makes it really heavy.. Maybe your cardstock isn't heavy enough. Try using more than 1 cardstock, if not then more(:
You can only make explosion boxes from square sheets of paper. So, you'd have to cut your paper to 8x8 for your largest layer and score at 2 2/3". Your next layer would probably slightly smaller than 8x8 (maybe 7 7/8 or 7 3/4), and you'd still score at 2 2/3". And your next layer even smaller than that. Your lid top would be about 4 1/4" score at 3/4" all around--I'm estimating on the lid, youll have to play with it. This will be one small box. Probably not good for pics.
.......after years of wanting to know how to do this - I finally followed your directions and took the plunge! I DID IT (I haven't embellished it yet because I haven't watched your videos on how to yet)! I've watched your video several times - for many weeks before attempting this!
Oh! I'm so glad that you gave the box a try and found success!!! Once you finish it, you'll be ready for your next one!! They are really fun to make and are a great weekend project! They make great gifts too. I know you'll have fun with it!!---Lisa

Forgot to say that you'd have to figure out the dimensions for the top, since the dimensions I give in the video wouldn't fit a smaller box.

Would it turn out the same if I used Acid Free Paper instead of cardstock?
sami5810 2 weeks ago
@sami5810
you just want to use a sturdy paper that will hold up to lots of handling.

Hi! I love your project could you please write me down the measures of each layer and the top? I couldn't get them all... thanks!!
karovi88 4 months ago
@karovi88
The layers for the box are 12x12, 11.75x11.75, and 11.5x11.5 and you score each paper at the 4 inch mark on each side.
For the top of the box, you need cardstock that measures 7 1/8x 7 1/8 inches and you score at the 1.5inch mark on each side.
Hope that helps you. I've added annotation notes to my video for future viewers.

You can make the base of your box as large or small as you want. Then I just make each layer slightly smaller than the base layer.

Thank you so much for uploading this video. Im just starting out and really want to try this but i have two questions.
1- after you cut out the outter squares on your 12' by 12' sheets of paper do you have to round them?
2- For the top do you have to use glue to do the edges or can I use double sided tape?
Please write back (:

You would score it at 3" all around, so that you'd end up with 9 3" squares, like a tic tac toe grid. HTH Lisa
