  • doubtful that he ever got it to the goal line. he certainly didn't get it there on the reach which "earned" him the signal.

I looked at it again and it was just as I remembered. there's simply nothing conclusive to see on replay after the reach. that accounts for the review not overturning their mate (who missed the call).

  • after the reach his back is more to the goal line and he's protecting the ball. no surge. ball's out of sight, and Clark, if anything is curled -- or being turned --away from the goal line. again though, that's reality, not what might have happened, which seems to be what you want to deal with. if he was holding it behind his back right then he definitely got it over

  • I saw a closeup of his dive over, first reach it just barely missed, second time he falls forward and it breaks the plane as he's falling (he didn't curl the ball back, it was under his chest at that point) and his chest barely crosses the plane. But one of your linemen got in the way of the camera (not blaming your lineman of course, just saying) and you couldn't see it unless you saw it from the ref's view.

  • okey-doke, he got it just an inch over on the second reach. lol. nice of you to confirm it for us, eagle eye.

bottom line, he didn't appear to get it across. most folks who saw it believe this. the score was however signaled by a lone official -- who missed the call. even 'nit Matt Millen though it dubious.

I'm sure too, in an alternate reality the nits would have preferred to not be granted that 7 and thusly been inspired to blow OSU away with redoubled effort and zeal.

  • @truthero I don't think OSU would have moved the ball past the one foot line. I'm just saying what might have happened, but it's all speculation as you said, either way, OSU wouldn't have gotten that pre-halftime field goal. Your special teams last year was one of the best I'd ever seen, especially the return game. After losing a defensive battle, I think I know how you guys felt after losing to us in 2008 at the Shoe.

  • was a shutout. second time this year buckeyes got stiffed. the USC initiial touchdown shouldn't have counted as well.

  • Again, that wouldn't have been a 24-0 shutout, with Ohio State getting the ball at the 1/2 yard line, a safety is very likely because you wouldn't have gotten the ball at the 35 yard line. PSU may have led 9-7 at halftime because of the free kick, or at worst been down 7-5 (we moved the ball in the second quarter really well), so that touchdown may have been the worst thing for us, since you had a big kickoff return and got the momentum drive down and kick a field goal to take a 10-7 lead.

  • yah it was actually a 24-0 shutout....

  • It wouldn't have been a shutout, and actually, the touchdown that he got across the second thrust through (you just don't see it, it's off camera), but anyways, let's pretend it didn't count. You wouldn't have gotten that field goal because you wouldn't have had a kick return to the 35. Plus, at the 1/2 yard line, would have been a safety probably given that we played lights out in most of the second quarter, and then we would have gotten the ball, drove down and took a 9-7 lead by halftime.

  • a "shocker" only if you don't know much about college football

  • though it was an awarded TD Clark didn't get the ball across. the ref who signalled it plainly did so reacting to the quick ball reach. replay shows that reach short.

  • The first reach was short, but the second one goes past by just an inch as he goes down. but to tell the truth, I think it not counting would have been desireable for Penn State, we may have led 9-7 at halftime (likely safety following the turnover on downs) and had the momentum to win (remember, that field goal was aided by a huge kick return). So the truth is, that touchdown being called correctly may have been the worst thing to happen to Penn State due to our awful kickoff coverage.

  • OH-IO! Ohio State is beast rose bowl here we come!
