  • Wow. Thanks amillion for sharing this clip. Yeah, Ollie is hard(l)y recognizable at all. Well it was for his best (I mean the wieght loss must have just earned him a coupla good more years of life). It runs tears to my eyes. Great to see them have a great time. They earned our respect and love. Big part of cinema history. Here's to you Stan and Ollie....

  • whats the tune called 2mins 10 secs into this video? i'd like to get this for my ringtone. got all their films. great video by the way

  • Two great mates that had a genuine love and affection for each other and here it shows. They were awesome together.

  • I heard Ollie lost a lot of weight but Jeez! Bit upsetting to see.

  • This is priceless...thank you.

  • What extrodinary footage, looks like Ollie`s been on the Atkins!! Stan has`nt changed, I salute you, some of the funniest moments in comedy.

  • What fantastic footage! I love the golden age of comedy, the days of making people laugh without bad language and mocking others have long gone. Well done.

  • They were two of the greatest comedians of all time, and the fact that so many remember them so fondly is they cared about each other. The did not have the nasty fights and ill feelings like Martin & Lewis and Abbott & Costello.

  • They both changed the way comedy was made forever. And in the process influenced comedians down the years. The way Oliver Hardy looks to camera in the B+W films, was copied by Eric Morecambe, another great comedian. The slapstick influenced everyone from the Goons to the Young Ones. And the half hour/ 20 minute format was the template for all sictoms.

Impossible to quantify, never repeated, true innovators.

  • what's not to like!?!

  • lol @ stan 0:36

i just love these two guys

  • Thank you very much! I never knew that Ollie lost so much weight!

  • Laural never worked again after Ollie's passing.

  • many people have forgotten how awesome they were . no special effects needed , one of the best movie duos ever ! kings of the silver screen, for real!

  • Hardy had lost the weight because he had a stroke. Laurel lived on after Ollie died but in declining health. They where the greatest and got along well acting together.

  • i wish people like them never died.true legends

  • Yes, they look terrible in their old age, and yet...this film is so beautiful. Two of the greatest comedy legends of all time. Not even their old age and deteriorating looks could take away such incredible brilliance and the laughter they brought to us. My eyes are watering over it too.

  • How fitting that the final film has come full circle: they ended as they began - in a silent film.

  • Two fine gentlemen.

  • Are those their wives? I thought they married each others' sisters. ;)

  • how did he lose all the weight?

  • Too many people have never had the chance to see their best material, which are the short films from around 1932. Much of it is priceless.

  • Legenda 4 ever.

  • Hi folks out there, this duo was the best of the best,Im from pr and used to go and visit my mom in new york, and we always watch this two great guys, very humble people. I was a kid back in the 1950s and I never forgot them, may the rest in peace.

  • have you noticed 1 of the movies has a letter witch looks much like pacman?

  • according to opening on the dvd's I've they didn't write the scipts. only played in the films.

  • @realitymainperson I'm not sure that's true, I've read elsewhere that Stan wrote some of their best material.

  • maybe. just not the films from the 1st dvd box

  • imdb says stan wrote many films(credited & uncredited). Oliver has according to it last i checked, only written 3(all marked as "uncredited").

  • i noticed on the films from 1st dvd box it doesn't exactly say who wrote them. I just rembered bot stan & oliver are only credited as "starring".

  • Having coffee in the back yard :)

  • you piss taking bastard, stan laurel and oliver hardy where legends.....how can you muddy their name with this shite.......i pity your mother

  • I was at my sister in law's house the other day, the TV was on and showing one of this great couple's films. My 12 year old nephew was watching and roaring with laughter. :)

  • I agree with moojawooja, these two guys were the greatest comedy duo ever to grace the silver screen. Maybe you have to have been a kid when I was, back in the 1950s, to feel that way, I don't know. But they were on TV every day (HEAVEN!) in the great movies they made mostly in the 1930s, and we all must have watched every film of theirs twenty times and kept right on laughing just as hard as the first time. May choirs of angels - playing wah-wah trumpets - bear them to their rest!

  • I'm a little confused cause I've watched other clips of them made a year later....fascinating footage though. I heard Oliver had lost a lot of weight towards the end of his life. Which may or may not have lead to two massive strokes which ended up killing him.

  • @tiberiousss actually I was wrong. I haven't seen anything later than 1956

  • Read Dick Van Dyke's memoir for more info on Stan's last days. Great book!

  • ah if only there was an afterlife

  • Beau Hunks music.

I think they did every L&H fan a service by recreating the Shield and Hatley musical scores.

  • I have seen this a few times before, always find it moving and facinating to watch.

    The best comedy stars ever.

    thumbs up

    bernie

  • i cried seeing this god bless you for this

  • Yes. But it's nice to have a look back. Thanks to whoever posted this video.

  • ah...the days when a ciggy was good for you

  • Poor Stan; he's paralyzed on his left side though fortunately he did recover.

  • Memories of two lives well lived. Why are my eyes watering?

  • This video shows how much weight Ollie lost in the months before he died. Just a year earlier, in 1955, Ollie still looked pretty healthy!

  • Thank you Stan and Ollie, thank you very much.

  • so sad see big guy all his life go down hill to nothing, see thats illness thats done this, like comment on here see hes under weight, funnies guys that ever waz, never been double act ever as funny, rip both.

  • my two moste favorite actors,im only 12 but still love them those two legends GREAT PEOPLE sad to see them go:-( i miss them already

  • i was breought up on stan and ollie(babe) and a lot of comediennes over the years owe them a debt of gatitude for setting out the way forward.I just wish life could rewind alot of years to when comedy was simpler less vulgar but ultimately more effective and long standing !!!!!!!!

  • love them both legends sad that oliver died the year after :(

  • I think that the young fellow standing behind the two lads, early in the video, may have been Hal Roach Junior.

  • Ollie starts with the question : Did you ever have a Father? Stan: Yes, he fell through a trapdoor and broke his neck. Ollie : Was he building a house? Stan: No, they were hanging him. Oh what fantastic classic stuff. Here is anorher. (When the two lads are presenting the deeds of a gold mine to a women who is an imposter ). She says: Is my father really Dead? Stan Says: i hope so, we buried him. She says: What did my father die of? Stan says: I think it was a Tuesday or maybee a Wednesday

  • Wonderful stuff. Which one was his wife ( stan that is) ? and was his daughter one of the ladys there.

  • Very nostalgic film footage indeed that brings both a smile and tear to my eyes. Whoever selected the music is to be congratulated. It's brilliant and captures the proper mood of Hollywood's BEST comedy duo!

  • Wow, beautiful and extraordinary footage, amazing..The score is so fine to boot!!

  • ok let's be serious here...dislike the chuck norris shit, dislike justin bieber videos, fake reality shows and fan made movie trailers...dislike video clips by lame ''artists'' who are forgotten after their 1st appearance, dislike the bootleg videos on conserts, dislike covers on songs, dislike ''funny videos'' that you don't laugh with, dislike pc games ,dislike interviews but WHY THE HELL WOULD SOMEBODY DISLIKE THIS???

  • Thanks for posting this. I loved Stan and Ollie when I was a kid. Do did my dad. I grew up near North Shields, but didn't know Stan Laurel was from there until I was much older.

  • I would like to know if the other people could be identified, who was that young man, which of the ladies were the wives to Stan and Ollie, etc. This is amazing footage. Thank you so much for posting it.

  • @bronxboy1952 I'd like to know, too. Fascinating stuff. :)

  • With all that great humor, there was also the marvelous diction of both Stan and Ollie.

Listen to both their manner of speaking. Stan came to the States as a relatively young man, thereby was able to 'smooth out' his English accent and create a more pleasant, neutral sound.

Oliver Norvell Hardy was from a fine old genteel Kentucky Family, and his gracious class showed through every time he spoke.. "Now here's another fine mess you've gotten me into Stanley".

    They WERE the greatest...

  • A sad reminder that it come to us all. If only the world could understand that is all our fate...perhaps it would be a better place.

God bless you Stan and Ollie!

  • I see there are 30 dislikes, Who could dislike this? crazy.

  • @kcshikles

No life, people who cannot recognize true genius!

  • @kcshikles They probably have encephalitis or something.

  • They hold your attention, even when they aren't really doing anything.

  • it almost makes me weep a little! Stan & Ollie were amazing & talented and their craft is slowly dying so we should relish in the greatness of such fine physical comedy!!!

  • Thank you Stan and Ollie for making a once sick boy so very happy-

    brian

  • Sic transit gloria mundii

  • two legends

  • Stan is looking much older !! First impression is really shocking !

  • Stan and Ollie, thank you for all the joy you've brought me.

  • Great to see them with their families. I'm glad they had such complete lives, unlike so many in showbiz, especially these days.

  • my god, didnt recognise ollie at first

  • There are several biographies on S. and L. Stan was the gag man. Wrote

most of their stuff. Babe spent his free time playing golf.

Neither was a good family man. Babe had a long time mistress. Stan

kept marrying the wrong women. Soon as he got a divorce he'd hurry

up and marry another just like her.

Great that film and Youtube have made them available to us.

    Tnx 4 the historic post.

  • stan and ollie were not as close as people think; it wasn't til their WW2 touring across Europe did they become the unbreakable friends they seem here. In the end they both were endeared to each other. Thus, one supposes, is their eternal appeal.

  • Wonderful to see them in later life! thank you so much! Ollies lost his rolie polie shape but still has that comic timing. Watch him flick stans tie! Dear friends to the end. we all should be that way.

  • I was aware of these films on youtube but chose until now, not to look at them.

these two great men will be alive and well, still making mischief and making me laugh through the memories I have and cherish of them.

They still live on, in my mind, they will never stop doing what they "do" the best, making people laugh, smile and be happy.

  • Thank you for posting this..

  • L&H 1 Of the best

  • not only am i a fan of these two, i was wondering if anyone else was a fan of the little rascals/ our gang.. notice the music at 2:09?

march of the wooden soldiers was a favorite movie of mine as a child and still is today. <3!

  • Actually babe hardy according to todays doctors say oliver had his stroke because he lost his weight too fast. Anybody else hear this?

  • i watched this as a kid, and im 18 lol

  • I don't think this is sad at all - it's amazing and a joy to see - Thank you

  • Old never to be forgotten ledgends but old age and death will get us all in time yes its sad too see them like this just remember them with all the good times they made us laugh RIP you two.

  • ollie lost all the weight because he supposedly had cancer :(

  • They loved their ciggies...

  • Breaks my heart to see them like this.. :,(

  • @revkev Apparently not since he lived 10 years after this.

  • They were the best!

  • Danke! Fantastic film of them in happy old age! They deserved it ! They spent SO MANY busy years of spreading joy! I ADORE them!

  • Vielen Dank für dieses wundervolle Zeitdokument.

  • There is no other movies that i'm laughing so much and hard... Stan and Oliver the greatest one's!

  • Abbott & Costello, 3 stooges, Laurel & Hardy, W.C. Fields........R.I.P. to these great legends, it seems that the 50's was a very brutal time in entertainment history, we lost curly, shemp, costello, hardy, and the day the music died as well.

  • God rest their beautiful souls for all the laughter they provided.

  • It is very groovy.

  • Oliver had lost LOADS of weight :O

Aw these are the most hilarious people ever , Ive watched all the DVDS cos they are my dads :P And im only 13 hehe

  • you are just a timeless peace of art just waiting for new audience

  • I have never seen this footage. Thanks for posting.

  • The best comedy team ever.

    George Vreeland Hill

  • Poor Babe looks awful here :-(

  • the two funniest men ever : )

  • The greatest comedy tean of all time!! RIP Stan and Ollie.

  • @MeMrecious I agree that Ollie was the star. He just had a magic touch. But I think Stan was the better writer and gagman. I'm not just saying that because I'm English either! :) You gotta love em both though! Long live L&H!! :) :) :) My fav bit is when Stan shuts the door from the car that was being towed. The hole car falls apart and when Stan goes inside he just says 'What happened?' hahahaha

  • My dad and I used to watch them all the time in the 50's. There old movies like way Out West and Bonnie Scotland are still some of my favorites. Not only do they bring back good memories but also growing up with a great Dad.

    Thanks Boys.

  • What a wonderful piece of history. Thank you for sharing.. God Bless

  • Often immitated, never equaled. No one came even close to those wonderful guys.

People like them should not be allowed to grow old and die.

  • Hardy is not shown sitting on the table. was the meal film taken on a different day

who is the guy in the white shirt? Does any body knows?

  • Unforgetable, the men of my childhood. Thank You so much Mr. Hardy and Mr. Laurel! I really think and hope, that You can see what all Your fans have wrote in the internet. Thank You "KLUKHUHNTJE" for the great vid!

  • This was a time when there was such a thing as comedy in the world. Thanks for posting.

  • Dint recognize Ollie. He had lost so much weight. I remember watching their movies as a child and I just love the pair.... RIP.

  • One thing I noticed that I saw in this video. That Stan was a chain smoker. He would finish one and then start another one, as seen in this video, and then he would throw the trash on the ground! I know it was a different time. Anyway, their comedic talent overshadown any of this!!

  • @shalompeace1321 Who cares? Who didn't smoke back then? The fact that as a chain smoker he lived to 74 is proof enough that smoking isn't as bad for you as everyone today has been lead to believe.

  • @VinylToVideo No, Stan was very lucky to live so long. And life back then was easier in a way, less stress on the body from chemicals, bad air, etc. Also, Stan's body must have been able to withstand the effects of smoking for those many years. And who is to say, he might have lived longer, if he did not smoke.

  • This is a very charming home video. Sweet mood and so much like the silent

pictures Stan and Ollie were known for. A lovely sentimental moment.

    Thank you for sharing this.

  • Also on the German television provided Stan and Ollie for everlasting great moments in television entertainment. Such a brilliant duo of comedy entertainment, it is as long as television is, never give back! Stan and Ollie - thank you for everything! RIP!

@ klukhuhntje: thanks for uploading from Germany.

  • God love them both.

  • Thanks for this. Makes me sad at the same time.

  • MrWilliamton is correct, I remember seeing an interview, but aside form that is the link at imbd just google stan laurel and dick van dyke

  • Beautiful!

  • miss you stan and ollie..

  • bull shiit!

  • Possible the greatest comedians that every lived! I am only 14 years old but I love Laurel and Hardy, I use to watch it with my grandad when I stayed over at his house, We would both be sat curled up with laughter over them! R.I.P Stan and Ollie (The best comedians that ever lived)

  • @BillyP96 - Fantastic Billy ♥

  • rest in peace

  • simply the best.

  • What's amazing is such a humble home for such an important and famous actor! It would seem that just about anyone could walk right up to that door, knock, and Stan would answer it himself. This can only mean 1 of 2 things, by comparison, L & H didn't make anywhere near the kind of money actors make today (too bad because they were much more talented), or that Stan was a very wise and frugal man who didn't waste his money on overpriced McMansions. RIP to the greatest comedians that'll ever be!

  • @roadyrider

Stan Laurel even listed his telephone number in the white pages of the telephone directory. A certain young comedian who was a huge fan of Stan found his name in the book and called him. They became such good friends that the young comedian ended up giving the eulogy at Stan's funeral. That young comedian---Dick Van Dyke. It's true. You can verify it on the web in several places. Mr. Van Dyke even mentioned it in several interviews.

  • They where the greatest! thank you. RIP

  • Ollie is barely recognizable without the weight. A shadow of his former self.

  • How could anybody dislike this great footage. It really shows how much caring both Stan and Oliver had for each other that made them the greatest comedy team of all time

  • How many children did Stan and Ollie have?

  • @JPJJD Stan had one daughter, Lois. Ollie had no children.

  • @jmknuttel Thanks!

  • i hate seeing them so old and feeble i wish they where still here today!

  • @joshuamyler I wish that too but the only thing we can do for this two is keep them in our hearts ;) (hope this is right, my english is not very well ^_~)

  • @AkatsukiDeidara1 i agree and yes your English is fine :-)

  • @joshuamyler Thank you very much for that :D.

  • my god,how thin and sick he looks!shocking

  • I remember sitting on my Dad's knee as a small boy watching Stan and Ollie and laughing myself silly. Now my son sits on my knee and does the same. Their kind of comedy never ages and no doubt in time, my grandson will be sitting on my son's knee and reliving the laughter all over again. True comedy legends.

  • @dokkenratt My father did the same with me and I do it with my son. Its a beautiful thing. It makes me happy to know that others are passing it on to future generations. :)

  • @dokkenratt Same here. My Dad and I would be sitting on the sofa crying with laughter. Timeless stuff.

  • great duo

  • God bless humour and creativity, in whatever order...

  • fantastic comedians the best

  • had a stroke and he is still smoking...

  • @Atomicflash500 And he lived to 74.. more than even today's average life span. Your point?

  • To me, LARUEL&HARDY,ABBOTT&COSTELLO,THREE STOOGES are just some

of the Greatest of the Greats of all time and faves of mine along with BOB HOPE.

    Peace.

  • Comment removed

  • how many shows did they make? I love them.

  • Doesn't look like Ollie!

This really makes me a bit teary for some reason!

I'm a teenager of the 21st century but this is my all time favourite double act!

  • @37Katee

It was Ollie in the clip.He died in 1957,a Year after the footage was filmed.

He succumbed to His illness,That made His weight plummet to 8 stones!

  • @jonkheere1 It's so sad, a real shame. :(

  • @jonkheere1 not quite. he was informed by his physician to lose weight. Trouble is he did it wrong...he lost way too much too quickly and the effect was deadly.

  • @diddymuck

Thank You My Friend,You are indeed correct,I was of the belief that Ollie's weight loss was down to something more sinister. But after reference checks,I bow to Your superior knowledge!

  • @37Katee I know, I'm used to seeing Him in some stuff looking kinda heavy set in a way, other than that I watch their stuff time from time.

  • @37Katee So do I !

  • Some of the best memories of my childhood are watching Laurel and Hardyer movies with my dad. They are the best team ever!

  • very nice film .i think everybody smoked back in them days.

  • what can you say best comedy double act ever.. timeless.

  • Great piece of history
