I call myself a pantheist because I believe god is energy all around us. Not a man controlling everything or a creator. God is a concept by which we measure our pain - John Lennon
@TheTempleofNature If you called this video "Einstein's Religion", you'd get a lot more views (although that would be being a bit tricksy!). It would probably also introduce some people to the idea of pantheism.
Very interesting but i think its very much in human nature too think too much about our ranking and credibility in the hierachy of what exisits i.e our over confident over zelus words are just a cry of insecurity
You do not need "supernatural" belief when you have imagined these depths of unphathomablility within nature...aka what ppl call supernatural is only a lazy intellect that does not yearn to know truth. If u r like einstein, your teanscendance of illusion creates a within you an unearthing sense of knowingness that need not hope for or believe in what our carnal minds think heaven to be. Peace-
I think there is something unsatisfying about this video. I do not believe there is such an absolutely clear distinction to be drawn between 'stupid religion' and 'scientific pantheism' as is suggested here. There are murky territories in between (those precisely, to which i am attracted). What about Sufi sects, are they all stupid religion, or only some, and which aspects make them so; what about various sects of Buddhism? Are they all 'acceptable' in this view? Certainly not.
@TheTempleoture Man can engineer molecules! It shows how it takes INTELLIGENCE in controlled laboratory conditions to mimic, manipulate, plagiarize a cell's Design! Scientists COPY genetic sequences!! They dont create anything!!
Its all Man made Synthetic chemistry! and it has nothing to do with the origin of life!! Homochirality is a disaster for any sort of naturalistic origins! There is no demonstrated source for such non-racemic mixture of sugars in any plausible pre-biotic environment!
I agree with pantheists (the naturalistic ones) that the Universe is a thing of beauty, to be regaded with awe and even reverence. And indeed, the Universe and its laws IS the highest power there is. I just don't understand the need to call it "God", and treat it like one.. The Cosmos is not a deity. It just is. It's reality. Let's just give it the respect it deserves, go about the business of trying to understand it, and live life as well as we can.
@TheTempleofNature I agree that it's "not just a thing". It's every-thing together. And to me, it's much more than just a being, but it's Being itself, the state or quality of existing. To me, there's no need to personalize it or anthropomorphize it. No need to deify it, or slap the nebulous word "god" on it. It's so much bigger than any of that.
@Ashiman12 Another reason pantheists sometimes refer to the Universe as God is to point out that they feel the same way for the Universe as Theists feel about their idea of god. The word "god" is nearly meaningless because it has been used to refer to many very different concepts. But all of those uses of the word "god" show that the word ultimately refers to the way someone feels about something, and as declaring that concept as worthy of worship (however that may be done).
@Ashiman12 the deification of the cosmos, is a realization that spirituality is a fundamental part of the human experience, the term god is older than monotheism and polytheism and pantheism could be seen as a way to syncretize or reconcile ancient spiritual thought (be it some forms of paganism, hinduism, buddhism, taoism) and scientific knowledge as even though science is an important tool and way of thinking it is not the only means of obtaining knowledge.
i watched a show on the mandelbrot set last night it was rivetting. mobile phone aerials didn't wotk very well until they introduced it!! they can calculate how much co2 a forest needs by examining the branch distance of one tree!! we truly are living in a piece of rams horn

Einstein is saying that the way to worship God is not to pray to him but rather to study and connect with the divine manifestations of his creation.

I love being a pantheist. I think more people should at least be aware of this religion and allow themselves to think freely.

@Schizopantheist I agree, the way the narrator phrased things does sound very silly :)

@Ashiman12 The reason we call it deity is because it's not just a thing, it's a living being.
