I'll still be tapping me toe to this when I'm dribbling on my iPod in the communal lounge of a residential care home. In fact, I might set-up a home for retired ravers - fuck those wanky names like Pinelodge and The Orchards, mine will be called Gurner Towers. Carl Cox will be resident.
there are still old school nights about . i go to 1 in huddersfield . its an all nighter till 6am . they have then every 3monts or so . witch is good for me takes me some time to recover now . not so young anymore . cool nights tho and messy ....
@midlander... we all forgot cos we grew up after 88-90 cos we'd used up decades worth of seretonin. SIMPLES!!! Dorset/Wilts/Hants/& Somerset...THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!
such a monster of a tune and it gave birth to another monster (nexus & blowback - dinky dink) in my best avid merrion voice "i fucking love this tune .... twice .....in the face"
@7649460 you dont lose the effect of analogue processes just because you listen to it via digital. Digital can be very accurate but that's the problem, the inaccuracy of analogue gear is what gave these tracks their character.
Of course listening straight off vinyl would be the best but as a 'playback' medium digital will still suffice.
The problem is with tracks produced and mixed/mastered in only the digital domain, they don't get any of the colour that these tracks benefited from.
@medwaystudios (1 of 2) I see what your saying but. Analogue audio has an infinite bit-rate. Digital audio, depending on what equipment you use, usually records at 44,100 or whatever it is, samples per second, which means there is loss, no matter how you look at it. If you were to compare a wave graph of an analogue signal against the identical signal but converted to digital you would see areas where you would get loss, and places where you would gain artifacts. Ctd....
@7649460 no analogue doesnt, sounds like you dont know what bit depth represents (and no its not bitrate). everything youve said here is classic misunderstanding of how digital works...try reading Principles of Digital Audio by Ken P so you can properly understand it.
@medwaystudios mate you've strayed away from the first point. I know what bit depth is. You explain to me how an analogue signal can be converted to digital without loss or gains? Mate, the record was recorded onto a digital format, processed to mp3, then it got processed it the program used to make this video, then youtube probably process the shite out of it. Anyone who says that you can record analogue to digital and keep that perfect sine wave warmth doesn't know what they're talking about.
@7649460 im not contesting the fact that converting to mp3 and uploading to youtube would affect the quality. thats more to do with the encoding and lossy compression used, not the digital recording itself. and no again audio does not have infinite bit depth as bit depth is a function of noise floor which vinyl doesnt do too well with. So not much bit depth is needed to reproduce that.
@medwaystudios Simply by playing a record player through a digital amplifier would mean there is loss. So making a recording, to a digital medium, converting it to mp3 then playing it back through you tube means that warmth and slight character becomes less and less noticeable. The only way to listen to it as it was probably made would be through a valve amp. Anyway im not having a go or anything, and you are right about modern recorded tracks. They have lost that sound!
Seriously people - just listen to that piano riff from 0' 40". Isn't that just the best sound you've ever heard?
Never taken seriously as a genre, this whole Italo piano thing is so gorgeous. Sexy, gorgeous, sinuous, funky, smart. Why doesn't anyone care, apart from a few washed up glow-stick ravers?
@midlander4 - Because for the most part it gets absolutely no airplay. Nobody gets exposed to it and with how slick and fabricated music has gotten, the raw bedroom sound isnt as exciting as it was.
Those of us that do remember, grew up with this as a sound and I reckon thats why its hard to get people interested. Although, mark my words, when the resurgence of classic house comes, the Italians will be knocking their shit out of the park with massive piano breaks, catchy riffs and soul!
@cheesyquaver I agree with you 100 percent. I know some friends here on youtube that make martial arts montages using this type of stuff. If it's house, they'll use it.
If they'd attempt to put this back on the airwaves, people might actually give it a chance. But nowadays we hear stuff about materialism and what not and that's just not music in my opinion.
luv this tune, if i had to name a number 1 tune this would be it, it took me 15 years to find it though, all i had was the memory off some lost tape, then some one told me the name, after i described it. luv the vocals!
Love the comments... all funny and very true lol!
