  • I built two boats using pl premium- one was left in the water for 1 year with water sitting in the bilge. it had a small pin hole leak somewhere and rain water collected. the hull froze solid for 4 months-unthawed and refroze into the ice below the waterline. after a year that hull was as solid as it was when first launched...i will say though when the pl premium is left in water for long periods--it weakens..but it is a good glue for boats that r covered in glass...

  • I have been using System 3 GelMagic epoxy glue and found it to be stronger than any wood. Never had a failed glue joint.

  • what were the product numbers on the glues? A lot of formula changes happen without a name change but the product number will change, or in the case of "liquid nails all-purpose heavy-duty" comes in solvent or low-voc(with half the strength according to the tech sheet)

  • @wolfedog99 Sorry; I have no idea and no way to look now because this video is over a year old and I've used up the Liquid Nails and I'm on a new case of PL.

  • @submarineboat just wondering. BTW the tech sheets I saw also indicated 2-4 weeks for full strength on the liquid nails, about 50-80% at 48 hours. (still a full strength of only 400psi under good conditions, but very flexible relatively speaking) I was thinking of doing a similar glue test just to sort out the different brands/models of subfloor and all-purpose construction adhesives. all of which make the same marketing claims.

  • @wolfedog99 I've used Liquid Nails for years, but I don't think I'll ever buy it again, especially when PL did so much better and cost less as well.

  • In order to compare apples with apples, this is the product that should have been used. Here it’s apples with oranges…

The results that the gentlemen achieved were what you would typically find: Epoxy being the best for boat building, polyurethane having decent strength, solvent-based and latex-based not performing as well in water immersion.

    Thank you

  • The use of LN-903 in a water immersion condition, such as boat building is not recommended. LN-903 is fine for construction applications that do not involve water immersion conditions. This is the great majority of construction applications.

The use of LN-950 Polyurethane Adhesive would be what we would recommend for this type of application.

  • OMFG that puppy is so cute!

  • I often find myself trapped in a conversation with a blowhard who likes to talk about things he knows nothing about. This guy is not one of those guys. He is the guy those other guys want to be.

  • Great help for us boat builders!

What brand of epoxy did you use?

    Thanks
