You have just made my day. Also nice to see an Arduino being used, i've never heard of them until a couple of weeks ago (currently getting one to mimic a winter bee cluster for uni project).
@Pointsmasher Enh, "I'm American", "It's American". Japanese is a very contextual language. Then again, to be fair, the original question didn't specify if he wanted to know if the drives were Asian, or I was. The drives, in actuality, are probably Asian. I (as my profile picture suggests) am not at all Asian.
@Pointsmasher how'd you get "it is american" he has the kanji for person :P. in true translate is says "no, american person is" technically if he wanted to say, i am american, he would need 私は in front of the sentence :P
I'm actually really curious to know how this works! I was born during an age where floppys were irrelevant (1990) so I don't really know what exactly is happening here....
@Jdawg0529 The short answer is that I wrote a Java program that reads MIDI files, converts the notes into periods (inverse of frequency) and sends them over USB to an Arduino that makes the read-heads on the floppy drives change tracks at the specified interval. The long answer is available as a video tutorial (link in the doobly-doo).
@Jdawg0529 it might be surprising but even though people think the us military has the most high tech stuff we actually still use floppy disks as our primary way to store and transfer data.
Edit: World of Warcraft theme? The other guy doing floppy songs refused to.
If you do try it, go for the "Legends of Azeroth" theme from the original 1-50 (60 actually came later in a mini-expansion) game. IMO, by far the best rendition yet.
@TheTopLogician I will definitely add it to my list of requested songs. Real-life is keeping me very busy, so I haven't had a lot of time for floppy music, but I won't say no (there might just be a very long wait...). =)
@TheTopLogician I never refused to do it. I simply told you how I despised the game and that I needed a specific song title in order to do it. My general disregard for the game makes me unfamiliar with it's music and which would be considered it's "main" song.
@TheTopLogician An outright refusal in mine, I am not so vague or complicated. I would not have asked for a title to search for had I intended not to do it. My preference on a game does not extend to every aspect associated with it. Should I also hate the friends of mine who swear by the game? No, that is ridiculous. I thought it was implicit that there is a difference between a game and its music. It's normal for a person to not like a game, but enjoy its music.
@Hylia34 Not so much missed as intentionally skipped. A lesson you learn early on in arranging for pep band (or floppy drives it turns out) is that without lyrics, every verse is _identical_ and it gets old fast.
Rather than thinking of it as skipped, think of the first stanza as a magical double stanza that contains all the words from both verses. =P
@Zombieytp Don't know ponies invade everything including some video completely unrelated to ponies, but, I feel your pain. Read that too. Damn, powerful stuff. *brohoof*
@DisheveledSuccess We're not talking about any heavy data transfer, so there should not be any category requirement. I think mine happen to be 5, but not a big deal.
@Sammy1Am I'd avoid everything behringer if I were you, they're made to be cheap and die within a year or two
I've had my my X1204 mixer for close to a year and one of my channels is slowly dying already, and my school has a much larger version of the X1204 for less than a year as well and its got a couple fucked up channels and a few messed up pots :(
though you should invest in a nice condenser mic :)
You have to be such a nerd to appreciate this. That said, if I ran a country, making these things would be a sport, and "Still Alive" would be the national anthem.
