19 march 1986 at Ottsjö in Sweden, Per Fornander sets a Swedish altitude record of 10096m, the temperature at that altitude was -56 Celsius... that's cold!!!
Wow this is touching. Rest in peace... you will never be forgotten. He seems like such a nice, gentle person, really saddening, but he died doing what he loves, and he probably knew that :]
@silentaviation I don't know if this is the record, but NASA had astronauts do flights in Schweizer 1-36s at 30,000 and had them towed up to that height in very powerful towplanes within just minutes
AWESOME - wow Dave, stunning and great shots inside & outside, love the detail & naration and stunned at the views. I've only been to 14.500' above Scotland in wave and I thought I had a high tow at 6500'.... Unbelievable flight man.
@KvornanTheLafesta The engine can't doesn't have a turbo, so it can't go to that high. And you need all the fuel and oil, witch can freeze at that temperature. That is not very healthy for engines and fueltanks
im 15 and i just solod 2 days ago i hope i get a lot of enoyment out of soaring in my life. also great job with tht slack line it must have been a nice ride
Gliders that want to go above 18000 need to have a mode c transponder, two way radio and prior permission. Usually, when its done in advance, they get their own block of airspace, vertical and horizontal that jets have to go around
Hi David - great job.... IGreat training vide, Out of interest what's your O2 system... In Australia I use a EDS D1 and in Argentina a ex-military diluted demand system... The EDS is better for oxy saving but I don't use it above FL300. In Ar the ex-military system I use above FL300.
Using SeeYou Application to look at the flight recorder data and produce the graphic views. Most of the time, mountain wave in Hawaii does not produce lenticular clouds. Rotor clouds are commonly seen.
No power source to pressurize the cabin of a sailplane. Supplemental oxygen is required - time of useful conciousness at those altitudes without oxygen is less than 30 seconds.
The camera is a Sony compact digital with 640 x 480 mpeg video available in addition to stills. It's light and small enough to mount on the brim of a baseball cap. Works pretty well if I can remember to move my head slowly while recording.
Just wonderful...

Wow, thank you for the ride. With a temp outside of -35* C. how do you get cabin heat? You must have been in flight for 1 or 2 hours.
easyeagle2 1 year ago
how did you stay warm without gloves and a jacket
ondamountain 1 year ago
@ondamountain Not ^^ But it is above a vulcano, and he's flying in thermicals. So maybe that heat of both is enough..

If he's flying a Dg-400, a self launcher, why does he need a tow?

airplanes above 18000' have to be on an IFR flight plan - are gliders not required to be or how does that work?
John19182004 2 years ago
Call in and get clearance into Class A, they'll give you a boundary.
DaveAtYouBoob 2 years ago
There is no class A airpace over Hawaii.

I also fly gliders, and just a question out of curiousity, are you using the CG hook on tow?
On aero-tow, rough conditions going up and down, and with that big slack, just got worried. maybe a CG hook with no
backward auto-release??

Top vid, though I have some questions.
What 3D software are you using with your logger data? And was there any lennies to mark your lift in the primary wave bar?
Where I fly there is no wave :( but a nice 100km ridge. well done
