  • Just wonderful...

  • RIP Dave

  • Wow, thank you for the ride. With a temp outside of -35* C. how do you get cabin heat? You must have been in flight for 1 or 2 hours.

  • how did you stay warm without gloves and a jacket

  • @ondamountain Not ^^ But it is above a vulcano, and he's flying in thermicals. So maybe that heat of both is enough..

  • Excellent flight by a great pilot. RIP David Bigelow. You passed doing what you enjoyed most. You will be missed.

  • Enjoyed the ride.

  • One simply have to admire a guy like this...!!!!

    R.I.P. David Bigelow.

19 march 1986 at Ottsjö in Sweden, Per Fornander sets a Swedish altitude record of 10096m, the temperature at that altitude was -56 Celsius... that's cold!!!

  • R.I.P. Dave

  • if u dont mind be asking but how long was u up in the air for?

  • May you rest in peace. A true aviator!

  • One of the nicest videos ive viewed on youtube. R.I.P.

  • Well he flew over the tallest mountain in the world...

  • @Krayz8o8 in Hawaii? Think twice...

  • Was you're coockpit pressurized?

  • so beautifull to glide

i'm 13 but i wanna fly a glider now so much!

  • Anything over 10,000 then really you need oxygen

  • How long did it take to get that high? And what alt was he released?

  • Amazing video and a cool glider!

  • Wow this is touching. Rest in peace... you will never be forgotten. He seems like such a nice, gentle person, really saddening, but he died doing what he loves, and he probably knew that :]

  • Excellent Video! that aero-tow must be a record too?

  • @silentaviation I don't know if this is the record, but NASA had astronauts do flights in Schweizer 1-36s at 30,000 and had them towed up to that height in very powerful towplanes within just minutes

  • what's the name of the music??

  • @HakamutsiFilms Niel Diamond - Skybird (instrumental version)

  • AWESOME - wow Dave, stunning and great shots inside & outside, love the detail & naration and stunned at the views. I've only been to 14.500' above Scotland in wave and I thought I had a high tow at 6500'.... Unbelievable flight man.

  • R.I.P. Dave.

If he's flying a Dg-400, a self launcher, why does he need a tow?

  • @KvornanTheLafesta The engine can't doesn't have a turbo, so it can't go to that high. And you need all the fuel and oil, witch can freeze at that temperature. That is not very healthy for engines and fueltanks

  • @IkTheNew now I get it.... Thanks!

wanting a self-launcher myself, Ive got to keep that in mind!

  • Bravo......Nothing BUT respect.....Peace Brother......and let there be nothing but tail winds when you travel..

  • Respect!

I really want to do the same, too, but I think I still have to wait :D (I'm 14 and have flown about 50 times allone^^)

    Greetings from Germany

  • Have not flown in umm..22 years.

Having watched these-i decided to get back into it,and get back up there.

VERY sad to hear that David died.

RIP man-Im sure you will continue to inspire others for a long time yet.

    Stunning stuff.

  • dude so cool, i have my ppl, and working towards instrument, now i wanna glide!

  • im 15 and i just solod 2 days ago i hope i get a lot of enoyment out of soaring in my life. also great job with tht slack line it must have been a nice ride

  • airplanes above 18000' have to be on an IFR flight plan - are gliders not required to be or how does that work?

  • Call in and get clearance into Class A, they'll give you a boundary.

  • There is no class A airpace over Hawaii.

  • Gliders that want to go above 18000 need to have a mode c transponder, two way radio and prior permission. Usually, when its done in advance, they get their own block of airspace, vertical and horizontal that jets have to go around

  • Great flying !

  • Hi David - great job.... IGreat training vide, Out of interest what's your O2 system... In Australia I use a EDS D1 and in Argentina a ex-military diluted demand system... The EDS is better for oxy saving but I don't use it above FL300. In Ar the ex-military system I use above FL300.

    Keep it up

Fly high, fly long, fly fast and fly safely

    Rick (aka - Skysurfer)

  • -35 degrees waw! better not open the canopy

  • Great flight ;)

  • Nice video!

I also fly gliders, and just a question out of curiousity, are you using the CG hook on tow?

On aero-tow, rough conditions going up and down, and with that big slack, just got worried. maybe a CG hook with no

    backward auto-release??

  • Aloha David, you have followed your passion to the ultimate heights, riding the sweetest winds on earth~ May your spirit soar forever now~~

  • What a great adventurer!

  • cobraxspeed's comment was very prophetic....RIP

  • Friday was a very rough day, we saw lenticular clouds like never before. I must say it was one of the strongest and windiest days I ever experienced.

  • A trip to the heavens in every sense of the word...well done.

  • Where did you get the wind profile graphics at the start. Did you add the color to indicate the wave?

  • Good job!

  • thats realy nice up country good job liked your flying skills bro .

  • Top vid, though I have some questions.

What 3D software are you using with your logger data? And was there any lennies to mark your lift in the primary wave bar?

Where I fly there is no wave :( but a nice 100km ridge. well done

  • Using SeeYou Application to look at the flight recorder data and produce the graphic views. Most of the time, mountain wave in Hawaii does not produce lenticular clouds. Rotor clouds are commonly seen.

  • Congratulations for the altitude record. Outstanding video!

  • do you have a perssurized cabin in the DG?? supplemental oxygen??

  • No power source to pressurize the cabin of a sailplane. Supplemental oxygen is required - time of useful conciousness at those altitudes without oxygen is less than 30 seconds.

  • Great vid!

How did you install the camera inside the sailplane? Excellent perspective; well done.

    Greetings

  • The camera is a Sony compact digital with 640 x 480 mpeg video available in addition to stills. It's light and small enough to mount on the brim of a baseball cap. Works pretty well if I can remember to move my head slowly while recording.

  • Cool
