The Constitution has always been understood in the context of the revolution and the ideals of the founding fathers, who were more intelligent than any president we've had for a long time. The bill of rights is a part of the constitution. The constitution wasn't made perfectly, it was a compromise of the time. Thus, the bill of rights contains amendments to change the constitution as well as other amendments. You cannot dislike the constitution and love the bill of rights, for it was because of the constitution that the bill of rights exist at all, which apparently you like.

The Constitution wasnt written to be a perfect document, the very fact that it allows for amendments is what makes it so great. I could take or leave Ron Paul, but theres nothing wrong at all with being a strict constitutionalist.. All the amendments you quote are PART of the constitution.

The significance of the Constitution isn't that it's flawless, but that it recognizes the shortcomings of man's foresight, attempting to create a document that may be changed with the times while restricting the tyranny of the majority to do so.
You claim that because it wasn't perfect in its creation--a point the Founding Fathers realized a lot more than you, that it should be disregarded outright.

Believing in the Constitution does not equate to believing only in the words of the document, because that's impossible given their ambiguity at times. The Constitution has always been understood in the context of the revolution and the ideals of the founding fathers, who were more intelligent than any president we've had for a long time. Because of their intelligence and their belief in liberty above oppression, their ideas about the way a country should be run should be respected.

Thus, the bill of rights contains amendments to change the constitution as well as other amendments. The Constitution wasnt written to be a perfect document, the very fact that it allows for amendments is what makes it so great. I could take or leave Ron Paul, but theres nothing wrong at all with being a strict constitutionalist.. All the amendments you quote are PART of the constitution.

@MasterFhyl If you accept that the constitution can be amended, you are not a strict constitutionalist. Anything could be added as an amendment, including amendments which counter the original intent of the constitution.

@whatisahumans The Original Constitution allowed for amendments, as the founding fathers realized that the country wouldn't always be the way it was then.. They intentionally left the door open to one day allow for the ammendments you talk about. NOONE, not even Ron Paul is saying toss those out and only follow the exact constitution as it was originally written. Thats not what strict constitutionalism is, you're trying to play a word game and failing pretty miserably.

There is no such thing as a strict constitutionalist, because the constitution can be changed by amendment. Anyone who says they are a strict supporter of the constitution is a retard. An amendment could be proposed tomorrow which would void the first 10 amendments, and that would be perfectly constitutional since the founding fathers allowed for the constitution to be amended.

Look. I like pointing out the insanity of strict constructionist conservatives as much as the next guy but this entire video is dumb because the strict constructionist follows the constitution and therefore stands by all constitutionally passed amendments. They have nothing wrong with amendments that has made the country more democratic, they have a problem with the gross growth of the executive branch that employs 3 million people and controls every aspect of American life. The reason we follow a constitution is so that our freedoms can be kept. Protecting our freedom as americans is what it is meant to do... Sure you can pick it apart and call it whatever you want, but it is BECAUSE OF THE CONSTITUTION that you can!
You have the wrong idea on what it means to be a constitutionalist.

Rights are only temporary privileges when they can take them away at anytime. If we just followed what those founding fathers wanted we would be better off. Why? That's pretty darn important. An elective despotism is not the government we fought for. Such as the fact that the document was written with the intention of expanding as the country did. This concept was revolutionary at the time, almost unheard of.. Which is why so many countries since have based their constitutions on ours.

What we don't believe in is activist judges purposely distorting the Constitution to suit their own warped agendas.. (whether Liberal or Conservative), Or in most cases blatently ignoring parts of it (usually the 10th amendment) so they can pass another liberty-stealing bill of crap.

@MasterFhyl If you've read the constitution, you know it gives the Supreme Court the right to rule on issues of constitutionality. It literally wants judges to be activists.
Oh, and you should probably read the 10th amendment too, because it doesn't say states have supreme power of the federal government, it says powers not given to the federal government should can be reserved for the states.
