@StevenTalks1 I've got several of Shelley's standup comedy albums. You can probably find some of them here on YouTube. Search for "inside Shelley Berman."
The bathroom scene was interesting. Even though there were only two men in the room, their reflections in the mirrors sustains the feeling of a crowd. Kudos to the director of photography and the brilliance of Rod Serling.
Okay, there are two dislikes for this. Who is watching this well written and cast show, and actually disliking it? Stranger things have happened. The Twilight Zone is on of the best series ever created. I guess I'm stumped as to how someone could dislike something so well done and ahead of its time.
Beechcroft had a little diarrhea. He made all that trouble for himself just because he sharted a little on the subway when he bumped into the fat broad with the attitude. He lost his faith in humanity because he spoiled some underwear. Back in those days, laundry detergent sucked. One shart, and you'd have to throw them out. Now, I take full dumps in my BVDs, and they come out sparkling. Even PP. Yes, PP, PP, PP . . . I'd eliminate the PP, cross 'em off, decimate them.
@mrspatrickcampbell Thank you for such an erudite observation. Perhaps you would keep all future witticisms to yourself to prevent the rest of us from vomiting?
Haha, after reading the book: "they're right, they're absolutely right, concentration is the most underrated power in the universe, well a person could move mountains!" that has to be a very convincing book
I find it sad that when I mention "The Twilight Zone" to my peers they go "whaaat?" and when I mention it's old and that it's in black and white they take that as somehow hindering the quality of the show....
Just found out that this episode's star, Shelly Berman, plays Larry David's father, on "Curb Your Enthusiasm". I didn't recognize him behind those thick glasses. Berman has also played a judge on "Law & Order".
I have been looking for this sucker for a LONG time. I could not remember the name of the episode. I wonder if Archie is related to Artie Beechcroft from The Changing of the Guard. I wanted to double check a possible major blooper in this episode. I've only seen it once many many years ago. Now I can verify it. Not in the first segment though.
this is the great stand up comic - Shelly Berman - he had some top selling record albums when I was a kid - the times of Bob Newhart and Jonathon Winters - when people bought lots of comedy records - Mr. Berman has been working all these years - still is, I think
sometimes i really do think ppl only use 10% of their brain in their lifetime. i run into clods everyday who i SWEAR lose IQ points every time they use the bathroom. i know a few ppl i would like 2 concentrate out of existence, but getting rid of ALL ppl is going xtreme, tho. but bill collectors, telemarketers, those ppl who put viruses in ur computer, men who don't pay their child support--u can get rid of all of those mutherf--clods.
@jhangirk Everyone in this clip is a stereoscopic homosexual, including the guy in the men's room. What is hilarious is the way Mr. Beachcroft manages to dab Henry's crotch to dry it at 6:30.
Ironically, Beechcroft played a few roles in Bewitched....1 of them was when he fought w/ Darrin about wanting a Witch Halloween theme for his advertising sales pitch....which pissed off Samantha. The Twilight Zone had the BEST actors from all those excellent 60's shows.....they just don't make actors like this anymore:(
@peaceandloveletsblow Yeah, there's a lot of gay undercurrent in episode. Every time the boy sees Mr. Beachcroft he spills "coffee," sometimes on his pants. I wonder what that could mean? And the boy has a "friend" presumably in retain, selling a chartreuse and orange scarf? Why else would his friend need to concentrate so intensely -- he wanted to make the sale.
Oh if you live in a big city you really do empathize with this guy. The scene in the train is so very accurate, and it doesn't even have to be at rush hour.
Did this actor have any other appearances in the Twilight Zone? Btw, love this episode. It's in same vein as Stop at Willoughby with the unpleasantries of work, but has more of a moral to it. You need people! (a bit like Time Enough at Last as well I suppose)
