hey i got a question for an experienced piano player: when i learn these songs should i just learn how to play the chords or should i make sure i understand exactly what chords they are and what the inversions are??? if one of you guys could give me some advice it would be greatly appriciated. thanks
I am not the coldest on keys, but as a Music Major, Remember: ALWAYS...ALWAYS... and again ALWAYS...know what you are playing! You never know when you have to play and need to change the key or invert what you are playing to make it work for the soloist/choir/band etc. I am learning how to do that now. I use to just learn chords, but that ended up just boxing me in, especially when I needed to flow on the keys.
As a piano player, mistaj5 is right. If you just learn the chords, you won't even improve much. If you learn what they are, it may take longer to learn the song, but that's how you suddenly find youself becoming better and better, at an alarming rate, until you are very cold on the keys. Also remeber to allow yourself to risk improvisions.
in addition to the advice of these other folks, remember that if u put some music theory to this and learn the progression of the chords, u can play it in any key u want.
God Bless U and May Heaven Smile Upon U. Your lessons will help me advance and I hope God sends you some special Blessings for helping me out!!! Keep it up!
WoW, you are a talented and gifted instructor. I have watched many videos on keyboard instruction. Your slow and methodical explanation is very helpful and easy to follow for anyone with a basic knowledge of music and chords. Thank you so much and God bless you for sharing.
Thank you so much! I can use this for choir warm ups now :) God bless you, this was great help!
