This man could do with a lesson in epistemology, all knowledge is obtained by retroactive analyses, you start with an assumption (axiom, premise) and all other semiotic words, signs and symbols have a relative interpretation designed to enhance and strengthen the axiom that supports the paradigm. Belief allows you to choose your axiom which determines the relative meaning of all words, signs and symbols used in communication, and which ultimately determines the core of our identity and reality.

Every time I see a modern day mature adult with a higher education make a complete fool of themselves by promoting myths invented by malnourished medieval children, it leaves me so amazed and befuddled that I often question the sanity of the average person in the world. I'm a Christian, therefore I agree completely with Dawkins on these points. People should not adopt religion or traditions from their parents and they should be presented with evidence on all sides and chose based on evidence. Faith should not be be blind. It has to be based in evidence.
Wouldn't it be easier just to wear a badge proclaiming: "I'm a moral and trustworthy person because I worship goodness."

The word "faith" is constantly misused. Religious people tend to think that having blind faith is a good thing but it's not Biblical. The Greek word for faith used in the Bible is "pistis" meaning: persuasion by evidence or moral conviction. Hebrews 11:1 says "faith... (is) the evidence of things not seen." This is why Christians (especially the early Christians who knew Jesus personally) use the term "Witnessing" when they refer to telling others about Jesus.

So in reply to your comment, neanderthalls didn't dissapear and homosapian's didn't mysteriously appear. There was just the cutoff point where we divide the two species by name, not nature.

Homo sapiens sapiens and Homo sapiens neanderthalensisis were both most likely descended from Homo rhodesiensis - co-existing at the same moment in time, though in different locations for most of their respective existences and sapiens out-competed neaderthalensis when they later shared habitat after sapiens later exodus from Africa pitted them directly against one another.
The evolution happened previous to this point.

it may be a bit of a stretch, but could it be said that, at least in intent, the use of biblical phrases and such to try to "win over" creationists to evolution is akin to the use of inaccurate models of atoms to introduce elementary atomic theory? it's like, "yes, we know electrons don't fit in nice little planet-like orbits, but it makes more sense to start with this, then move on to the orbitals and uncertainty and all that." So, it's more a matter of teaching methods?

The analogies used in religion are the other way around, they are more complicated than the concepts they describe. It's obfuscation. This man could do with a lesson in epistemology, all knowledge is obtained by retroactive analyses, you start with an assumption (axiom, premise) and all other semiotic words, signs and symbols have a relative interpretation designed to enhance and strengthen the axiom that supports the paradigm. Belief allows you to choose your axiom which determines the relative meaning of all words, signs and symbols used in communication, and which ultimately determines the core of our identity and reality.

I just finished reading Antony Flews book "There is a God" and it is BRILLIANT. Makes Dick Dawkins look like the immature, small-minded arrogantly ranting child that he is. The book delves deeply into the subjects which really matter concerning the question of God, subjects which Dawkins does not address. Such issues as the origins of the rationality embedded in the fabric of the universe, of life understood as autonomous agency, and of consciousness, conceptual thought, and the self.

I'm a Christian, therefore I agree completely with Dawkins on these points. People should not adopt religion or traditions from their parents and they should be presented with evidence on all sides and chose based on evidence. Faith should not be be blind. It has to be based in evidence.

The word "faith" is constantly misused. Religious people tend to think that having blind faith is a good thing but it's not Biblical. The Greek word for faith used in the Bible is "pistis" meaning: persuasion by evidence or moral conviction. Hebrews 11:1 says "faith... (is) the evidence of things not seen." This is why Christians (especially the early Christians who knew Jesus personally) use the term "Witnessing" when they refer to telling others about Jesus.

Actually, I would argue that the evidence states that nature and nurture are co dependant on one another. Nurture (environment) triggers the genes (nature) that leads to the behaviour. Some people 'seem' to have such an emotional attachment to religion. That its almost impossible to 'wean' them off of it. The only way to get rid of religion, is to stop teaching it.However, how we get to that little experiment,is beyond the scope of the conversation.If you want to talk about this further,PM me.

What he is saying is that something which cannot be proven, doesn't necessarily deserves respect. This is a secular position; believe whatever you want, but don't expect others to do so when you have no evidence.

The medianites were a obsticle to that end. Jesus had to come from somewhere and the Medianites were blocking he way to all the things that Jesus means for us today. Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris were the only speakers there that had the integrity, honestly, and backbone to speak the truth without sugar-coating it for fear of offending the religious sheep. Pseudo-science anticipated (1 Timothy 6:20). The theory of evolution contradicts the observable evidence. The Bible warned us in advance that there would be dumb ass atheists who would profess: "profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge (science)." If you mean research, yes it will die with us, until another evolved creature(s) takes our place. But the basic building blocks of life, mathematics, and time will always continue. You can't stop the progression of life and the adaptation to new needs. Religion, and our interpretation of it changes with each passing generation. Its not concrete.
