  • I don't care that this wasn't as much a commercial success as Blondie's other hits, it remains my all-time favourite! The intro, Clem Burke's drumming (how often do you see a drummer stand up to pound out a beat?), the tempo and Debbie's vocals combine to make this a brilliant song.

  • Are you there?

  • I first heard this song when it was covered by The Smashing Pumpkins, which is a great cover by the way, but damn it doesn't compare to the original.

  • great drumwork

  • Oh Debbie! Dreaming is free, isn't it?

  • I can't tell you how many times I played this song over and over again when I was 9 years old. To this day it rocks my world and brings back great memories of me lip synching to Debbie in my bedroom.

  • Clem makes this song HAMMER with the drums!

  • cool

  • clem out of this world

  • Love this song, and that drum line is incredible. Good times.

  • anyone else think of SLC Punk when they hear this? Summer Phoenix, man.

  • People check out her new songs mother, what i heard......You will love these new songs by Blondie....

  • @newwave1965 Album is going to blondie back to thier best.

  • Genial!

  • great song geeat drumming and ....DH is SO hot!!!!

  • Clem: MVP by a mile and a half.

One of the greatest drum performances ever.

  • Check out the little smile 0:9 / 2:56 at the beginning of the video. If that smile doesnt cause your lil heart to miss a few beats than you are not a man!!!

  • @stylerico2000 what if your a woman, and she makes "your lil heart miss a few beats"?

  • dreamin is FREE!

  • @sillyblonde2345

Mmmm!! I am dreaming of DEBRA!!

  • Still good

  • What DVD is this video from?

  • My all time favorite song from Blondie since I was 14 or 15. They hardly ever played it on the radio, I heard it at the school that I went to at that time & on TV. I wonder if the idea for this song came from The Tornados - Telstar.

  • My Fave Blondie song!Blondie are one of the best bands in the world! They are awesome and their songs are timeless!People will always love Blondie and Debbie Harry! You are beautiful!Always!

  • pump up the volume!

  • Awesome song. Miss those times..

  • I always thought the way Clem did sixteeth note fills twice every measure as part of the groove made him sound really unique and it still stays tight and in the pocket!

  • I was so in love with Debbie back in the 80's. Even as a 12 year old, I had a thing for the bad girls...

What am I saying? I'm still in love with her.

  • love this song. was born 9 years later but makes me feel like I was a teen in those times. some songs totally capture that moment in time so perfectly. blondie forever!

  • Tis September 22, 2010, and I heard this song on the radio today...yes, FM radio. In an instant I was back in the late 70's. A geeky high school nerd listening to music no one else listened to, on a converted car stereo through an old AM Tube console! For almost 3 minutes today, I had an ear-to-ear grin. It matters NOT about the video, the guitars unplugged, the lip-synching. What matters is the moment of this song, and where it happens to take you when you unexpectedly hear it again!!

  • the drummer fantastic

  • BOY what I wouldnt do to be able to go back in time and be with this woman! She has more talent in her pinky finger than todays so called stars got in there entire bodies! Ill sit with her and watch the traffic go! Love you DH!

  • I just realized one of the things that has always drawn me to this song - the vocal melody in the last 2 lines of each verse sound just like the melody in the song Telstar.

  • Love it. Does it sound a bit Abba?

  • Is that guy's Les Paul even plugged in??? I see a Strat and a Les Paul and Marshalls in the background and they're practically inaudible.

  • @MajorImpact ya and its live LOL. dumbass

  • We were all held hostage in SIR Studios for the good part of the day.

We did have a good time though...

  • Clem Burke is a MONSTER! Awesome...

And ummm, oh yeah...Debbie Harry is H-O-T HOT!

  • Go, Clem go!!! Gee, he knows how to play drums! Love to see this video.

  • Excelente Musica, se escuchaba y bailaba en Lima 80´s.

    Lo Maximo BLONDIE.

  • This song is awesome on so many levels. Blondie rules.

  • Awesome!

  • About 1:15.....Looks like Flava Flav's dad.

  • @ 0:24. That guy looks ALOT like DJ AM.

  • first LP record I've ever bought...

  • lol EMALYN so true only could deb make punk sexy, filthy, classy, and pop without selling out. One of a kind will never get another deb nor a band like Blondie

  • I love the simple way she just belts the song out. As though there is nothing but the performance at that moment. It's awesome.

  • Where have all the Debbies gone to?

  • Would you guys believe me if I said that Clem has said that if he could do this song over again he would tone down on the drumming. He said that the strong drum sound made the song less commercial so it was not as big of a hit as it could have been. I think this song is what it is today because of the strong drumming on it. It's perfect the way it is!

  • @doetim I'm surprised he'd care that it didn't have as much "mass appeal," being such a veteran of the initial NYC punk scene. To me, it actually sounds ten times catchier than the average drum track due to all the crazy fills, so I'm a bit puzzled myself. I rarely find drums this amazing in anything, and I'm a fan of a lot of drummers.

  • @doetim DITTO, DITTO, DITTO !!! PERFECT, PERFECT, PERFECT !!!

I took up playing the drums because of Clem Burke's playing on this song.

I'm glad that it was less commercially succesful and more rhythmically spectacular.

When I run this through my system that can really handle the punch off the Toms and Kick I feel like I'm just going to fly away on his heavy, unrelenting, driving play - and PLUS, those Premier shells are damn sweet sounding (even though he now plays DW).

  • Dear EMI,

If you're going to go to the trouble to inform us that this is a digital remaster would it be possible for you to actually post a version that sounds like it was remastered rather than a copy that sounds like it was pulled off of a copy of somebody's VHS tape that's been sitting in a cabinet for 20 years?

  • @doetim Totally agree on the drumming. Truly makes the tune move.

  • My Fav too! I used to help her at Whole Foods in Chelsea, and she was The Coolest!!;oxo..

  • absolutely gorgeous song.

  • This is my favorite Blondie song of all time. It has a catchy guitar riff, cool drum rolls, and an ear catching chorus. This is Debbie Harry at her best. Her voice is so unique too, not like those oversynthesised computerized pop singers of today.

  • my very very favorite Blondie track ever! :D

  • Some great feel-good music!

  • i love her outfit

  • She was 34 during this time

  • Many thanks to EMI for uploading this. Debbie was a gorgeous woman, and sometimes the quality of the band gets overlooked, but this shouldn't, it was excellent.

  • hahaha the 80's...

  • Ski goggles?

  • Everyone makes the same mistake Chops315 did...

    The BAND was Blondie...

    The Girl is Deborah Harry....

  • Great piece of song-writing, oddly enough first time I heard this was a B-side cover by the Smashing Pumpkins, what a gem.

  • Great watching Clem channeling the late Keith Moon

  • Clem Burke's drumming gives this high energy song that much more energy! Excellent!!!!

  • Blondie's hot and everyone knows it!

  • @Chops315 Ya know Chops...

The Girl is Deborah Harry... Not Blondie...

    That is the band name

  • @JohnBaconBlues ....give him a break ...we all know that....and we all still call HER blondie some times...

  • Just another comment on how great the percussion is on this song. There can never be enough appreciation for his drumming.

  • wot a fukin ride!!!

  • Awesome song,Awesome band.Clem Awesome on the skins GRRRRRR8 stuff....Blondie 4ever! Thanks for posting and shareing

  • The best music was made in the 60's and 70's. Plus a hand full of bands in the 80's and a handfull in the 90's.

  • I would sleep with Debbie

  • Great band. Awesome drummer. Debra is so hot. I like the lip gloss. Kick ass song. Did i mention I like lip gloss..Debra i is mighty fine...repeating myself....

Oh yea and these guys play instruments....remember those?....no sample RAP crap here....

  • elvis ramone

  • So happy to see Clem's drumming so appreciated on here. This song/video was always one of his showcase pieces. One of the best drummers ever!

  • Dearest Blondie, thanks for all that love, joy and happiness that you have given us during all these marvellous years of our youth ....We are getting old today but our hearts, heads and souls are still full of your warm and fresh music like a fountain of youth, like the sun's light....God bless you Debbie Harry...:-))

    Sweet kisses from Belgium

  • such authentic energy. clem burke is simply wild on this one. love the lyrics, the guitar, deb's performance, everything about it is just perfect.

  • excelente video

    i love Debbie!

  • FANTASTIC SONG, GREAT CLIP, JUST LOVE IT...

  • I know most of the audience was loaded on ya-yo, and acting like yo-yo's...but ya gotta admit. Looks like fun. And from a fan's point of view, I love this video. It practically bursts from the screen, and parades you around, until you're dizzy. Classic Debbie Harry; wonderful singer. Always loved this song, and I truly appreciate the fact it's on here. Cheers!!

  • so cool!!!! Just love her hair!!!!

  • FUCK OFF with your embedding disabled shit!

  • Digital remaster????!!!!

  • I will love you forever

  • Which band member is that guy at 0:25, and why is he making odd faces or gestures in a lot of Blondie vids?

  • @Remorselesslymine The time link isn't working well - he does his thing just before Debbie starts singing.

  • What happened to music?

  • @JMuller29 They stopped taking hard drugs.

  • デビー最高!!この衣装の写真を下敷きに入れて、いつも眺めていた。結婚するなら、デビーと勝手に思い込んでいた、少年時代でした。HDのアップありがとうwwwww

  • stunning - The only saviour of a completely lousy 1980's

  • (L)

  • That's a stunning piece of drumming by the brilliant Clem Burke, I'm a former musician a Drummer in fact and played lots of clubs around the north east of England, i tried to play this and i thought my arms where going to sieze up.

  • @creepycooper I love Heavy percussion and the drumming is what makes this song go. Great performance from Clem. The guys behind the tomtoms never get enough credit. They're the true blue collar workers of most bands.

  • @MrDaveyHansen Thanks for reply, Yea i have nearly always said a band is only as good as it's drummer, at the end of the day that is the main rythem piece and all have to follow, but Clem was an absolute animal in the early days he could hardly keep it togeather and was all over the place, but when they finished with the Punk stuff and signed to Crysalis records he spent a lot of practice time with Chris Franz from Talking Heads and managed to tame him and now he is a drum legend.

  • @creepycooper

It is AMAZING just to watch this drummer! He's having so much fun and is sooooo good :)!

  • @creepycooper Clem Burke at his very best.....brilliant drummer!!

  • @eugi0070 Yea man did you know infact that in his early drum years Clem was so wild and out of control but still being a talented drummer that the band's management sent him to be calmed and nurtured by the great Chris Frantz from Talking Heads, payed off did'nt it.

  • Dreaming that these type of bands would come back on stage with a fantastic drummer as Clem Burke !

    Unfortunatly I'm only dreaming !

  • wow, a real band. take notes kids.

  • Fave 80's song.

  • Wet dreams are free...

  • very good, tan buena como la de los smashing pumpkins,

  • Feet feet, walk a two mile

...I love the crowd going wild, ...Blondie does great videos...

  • Eat to the Beat was the very first cassette tape I bought for the very first boom box I ever owned. Ah, eighth grade. I was listening to New Wave when all my classmates were listening to their older brothers' Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin albums.

  • ive seen Blondie twice, once 1990 at Arco Areana in Sacramento, California and the second time 2009 at the Britt in Jacksonville, Oregon.

  • Man..I can feel the gray hairs sprouting out of my scalp. I was in elementary

school at the time, 4th grade. Now I have to try to explain what a telephone booth

is to my nieces & nephews.

  • I think I'm in love with the girl you see at 2.07 wearing what looks like ski goggles or something. How hot is she?.

  • Not very.

  • Very

  • @flares I think that may be the late 70's supermodel Gia Carangi. She was in Blondie's Atomic video and I've also read that she's in this one, and none of the women aside from the one wearing goggles looks like her.

  • @flares Gia Carangi

  • Who is the lead guitarist Chriss Stien or Frank Infente?

  • Blondie er enestående....Har og vil altid elske det band!!!!

  • Ben!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Todays Divas are nothing more than a bunch of street corner whores!!! Deb is and always wil be a true GODDESS!!!

  • @EMALYN51508

These words should have been written in stone! this is the absolute truth.

  • @EMALYN51508 lol if you dont think she took it up the ass your sadly mistaken

  • She was so HOT back then! Excellent song...my favorite Blondie song too!!!!

  • Awesome. My fav Blondie song. Clem is one of my fav drummers too.

  • The three most entertaining minutes on YouTube.

  • Love this song, LOVE the drums--so cool. Wolfgang Rohan--true! Listening for musicianship! We are the real connoseiurs...

  • squirting is freee!

  • on what year was the concert of the video?

  • Lady Gaga what?

  • dreamin is free

    dreaming is hell

  • Perhaps my favourite Blondie song, always and forever, Debbie has my heart, but in a different way! ;DD

  • Burke is a great guy. had the pleasure of meeting him a while ago after Blondie first broke up. He was playing for a band at Arlenes Grocery in Greenwich Village. My buddy Mike introduced me to him. Just a nice man. Sat and talked about absolutely nothing for about 15 minutes. He made us all laugh.

  • @NytoPitt Clem Burke is one of my all time favourite drummers, great taste in drums too, the old premier kits were awesome, shame they've lost the plot now. One of my friends owns an ex Clem Burke kit and it looks very much like the one in this video, I have often wondered if it is this actual kit.

  • I've always LOVED this song for the fantasitc drumming. Clem Burke should have more people spred the "Buzz" on how great this guy was/is. The kids now days HAVE no idea, once I show them this they start looking into more and more "great" players in other band. Really LISTENING to the old songs for MUSICIANSHIP.

  • Clem Burke is drumming like a MOFO in this song!

  • Debbie is great, but here looks like she's affected by drugs

  • @Jaws65

ALways the druggies who can spot out other druggies.

She's performing a rock song and she's got energy and sweat, why is that drugs?

  • She admitted to taking a lot of coke in the 70's and 80's. Drugs are great though, without them we wouldn't have Blondie, Bowie or the Beatles. The 3 B's.

  • That drummer must be in top shape - playing like that takes it out of you like little else.

  • Lady Gaga who??????

  • Debbie Harry is the coolest

  • So damn sexy.

  • love this it was the theme tune to paris hiltons movie Pledge This lol

  • My fave Blondie song i think. Don't ever compare Lady Gaga to Blondie. Gaga is not my cup of tea--she's no slacker, after all she got into Tisch--but Debbie and the boys just blow her away. And you never had a Blondie song bouncing around in your head (like a bullet in a tank) in an annoying way (think "Paparazzi").

  • One of my favorite things about being alive is hearing to Deborah Harry sing this song. Her voice does something to me. I don't know what it does but I love it.

  • Great music great beauty. The little girl too as all. It still works.

  • Look at the people dancing in the background... they look like they are actually enjoying themselves. If you shot this video today all the extras would be pouting and trying to get themselves on the X-factor..... and looking DULL

  • And notice how in every Blondie vid the extras always look very dated and 70's, but Debbie timeless. Not just the aesthetics too, the attitude Debbie had never goes out of style.

  • noob

  • @krancioch its called cocaine. haha

  • @krancioch thats because the spectators in videos today think they are the stars and also pretend that they enjoy the rubbish music of today....

  • No need for remix or dubbing here, no need for adjustment..just raw talent. I like the lip gloss. I like the eyes. I like the smile. I like the attitude most of all. I want one of those. Fun.

  • In NO way will Lady Gaga come close to the hottest lady ever in music," Debbie Harry". Debbie and Blondie is so good that Gaga don't have a chance to get to the highth of Debbie. Debbie Harry's face was touched by God and Gags looks like a crack whore! Sorry Gaga fans, but don't compare them, Debbie would win everytime!!

  • After watching a bunch of Blondie videos, it seems like Lady Gaga (love her) is a more manufactured version of Debbie Harry. There are a lot of similarities in terms of their bios too.
